Fun quirky read. Beware of the strong language even though personally that's ones of the things I love most about this book. While there isn't any build up romance it's more insta-lust I still found myself completely loving the main couple. While reading this book I am constantly reminded of my family and I love it. They are loud boisterous and completely loveable. Thank goodness I've already bought the third book because I can't wait o start it.

This was really rather dull for a MaryJanice Davidson book. The only reason its not getting a 1 rating from me is because I enjoy Davidson's writing style.

Princess Alex has turned into a walking stressed zombie due to her insomnia. The family psychiatrist has decided that a break from her normal surroundings might help, so she suggests Alex take a trip down to South Dakota to help out with the opening of an aquarium that their family is funding. When Alex gets there she meets Dr. Sheldon Rivers who is being a pissy bitch about royalty walking around his work place. Alex thinks his rudeness and grumpy behavior is hot and pounces on him. From then on out there's lots of sex and bickering by the two protagonists and a small side plot involving Jenny, Alex's handmaid/PR person.

My biggest problem with this book is that there was no conflict. The book is almost entirely motivated by Alex and Sheldon bickering at each other. I'm a fan of character driven stories, but not when their personalities never even clash. Everyone gets along, there's no real build up about Sheldon hating royals or even Alex's insomnia. In fact those two problems... the two that were supposed to be the biggest driving conflict in the book? Hardly got mentioned. Sheldon's attitude about rich people was mentioned once in the very beginning and then never brought up until the last couple of pages. As for Alex's insomnia. Yes we see that she's not sleeping through most of the book but really everyone is pretty meh about it so when it gets solved that's your attitude too. Even though towards the end I started missing her insomnia cause it turns out that was the one thing making her character interesting.

I predict that in a week I'll look at this book on my shelf and think "What the hell was this book about?" because nothing happens. And oh lordy, the next one in this series is in the mail to me and its too late to stop it. At least, they're quick reads.

2022 bk 19. 2nd of the Alaskan Royalty series. The second features Princess Alexandria who is still experiencing PTSD from taking out the man who shot her father in book 1. The physical part is healing nicely, but Alex has not slept through an entire night since the incident. Ordered to North Dakota and away from her family as a form of therapy is not something that Alex is happy with, at first. Then an encounter with Dr. Sheldon Rivers and Alex's life is turned around. A fun read!

I actually read this series out of order (read book one, then book three, then book two), but this was still a fun, fast read that only took me about two hours to finish.

This installmant of the royal Baranov family from the country of Alaska centers around Princess Alexandria Baranov, the sister who saved her father's life at the end of THE ROYAL TREATMENT. Suffering from insomnia, nightmares, and a wee bit of paranoia after that event, King Al (along with the royal doctor, Dr. Pohl), decide that Alexandria could use some time away.

What ensues is Alex quickly arriving in North Dakota, even more quickly falling in lust with Dr. Sheldon "Shel" Rivers, lots of hot sex, royal misunderstandings, groveling, faster-than-the-speed-of-light courtships, and more sex.

If you like MJD's stories, you'll like THE ROYAL PAIN. If you want a bunch of character development, deep meaning, a lack of swearing, and the answers to the meaning of life, you won't find it within these pages.

All in all, a fun piece of fluff!

Hmm...I'm trying to think of an apt desciption for this book. Oh, got it!
Do you remember that Friends episode about the guys' friend Gandolf coming to visit? They were so stoked, envisioning the best night of their lives. And then he didn't show. Yeah...that's what reading this book was like after reading The Royal Treatment. Such high hopes that weren't realized.
Princess Alexandria has the be the most boring tormented soul I've ever read. Seriously, she could have walked her insomniac butt of an Alaskan pier and I wouldn't have noticed that she was missing. And Shel? Well there is a fine line between romantic conflict and out-right personality disorder.
The Teal/Jenny plot was the most interesting part, in my opinion. But that disappeared quicker than you can say "Um, but you said he was gay."

I really applaud Mary Janice Davidson's humour and wit through the characters in this book. I love the lighter take of the royals, whom I usually imagine as prim, proper and stiff most of the time. The plot was cute and interesting but that aside, what I enjoyed most were the interactions between the characters of the Baranov family! They made me laugh out loud. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who is just looking for some light reading and laughs.

Again, loved the characters although I did not like the intro to the male lead! I have trouble keeping up with the timeline, it just moves to fast for me. The naked scenes could use some work for sure also! But I love a happy ending and sarcastic remarks make me giggle.

Hmmmm. I don’t know about this book. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t really one I’m ready to put on my “you should go read this!” list. This is my first read by MaryJanice Davidson (I know this is the second in a series, but it seemed okay to read as a standalone) and I just don’t know if the writing style is for me.

This series is about the Alaskan Royal Family and all the endeavors they get up to; this one specifically following Princess Alex (a daughter of the king) and her journey to the U.S.. Minot, North Dakota, specifically.

description

I really loved Princess Alex and Sheldon River’s first meet.

But then I felt like… that’s all it took? For Sheldon to realize that he wanted to be with her? That she was the one? When his first impression was he hated her because she was a princess?

description

Also, can someone tell me if she liked the sex or not? Because I STILL DON’T KNOW. “His tongue was stabbing into her; it was like a knife that didn’t hurt.” Excuse me? I felt like the sex and intimacy between them was uncomfortable at best, and needed a little work.

description

The book just seemed to jump around a lot, you missed big chunks of time in between chapters where I found myself going, “what did I just miss?” But I never found out, because it wasn’t there. Also, going off the back cover, I really expected more humor through out this story. I didn’t get it. Instead, it stayed on the serious side through most of the book, and I didn’t feel a great connection to the main or secondary characters.

Overall, this book was just okay for me. Maybe it would have been better if I had read The Royal Treatment first?

In "The Royal Pain" novel written by MaryJanice Davidson, the plot revolves around a royal female protagonist who is in distress. This narrative follows her unfortunate series of events as she encounters various predicaments due to her status and beliefs that are different from those of others. Despite these challenges, she stands firm and demonstrates resilience while navigating through each obstacle with composure and gracefulness unbefitting one deprived of privileges like hers. The author's style is exceptional, using witty humor throughout the book; it will keep you hooked until the end!

"The Royal Pain" is a pleasant, amusing romantic tale which will make readers chuckle and support the improbable duo at its nucleus. Penned by renowned author MaryJanice Davidson, this publication exemplifies her trademark kind of humor and clever conversation.

The narrative traces the improbable love affair of Princess Alexandria from Bellissime and Dr. Sheldon Grant, an exceptional although socially inept scientist. From their initial encounter, it becomes evident that they belong to divergent strata - she is a princess while he's just an ordinary citizen with scanty similarities between them. As time progresses and their interactions increase, they come to the realization that they share a common passion for scientific pursuits as well as an intense desire for camaraderie in existence.

The palpable attraction between Alexandria and Sheldon is electrifying, while their witty repartee elicits laughter. Davidson's literary prowess shines through with sophisticated wit and impeccable pacing throughout the storyline. Additionally, fully realized auxiliary characters enhance the overall reader's experience of this book.

I don't know about the contents of the book, because I opted for the audiobook. The narration is beyond terrible: every single character has the exact same voice, intonation, emotions (or rather, a distinct lack thereof) and manner of speaking. Women, men, children: they all sound exactly the same.

Combine that with the extremely confusing dream-sequence start and you've got yourself a complete and utter mess. It's impossible to distinguish between different characters, and therefore following the story is equally impossible.

The narrator would've been great as a news caster, but is definitely the wrong choice for audiobooks.

I said this with "The Royal Treatment", but the Alaskan Royal Family is hilarious and I love rereading this series because it gives us the chance to see them again.

Sadly, Princess Alex spends a lot of this book away from the Sitka Palace so we don't get to see her siblings as much as we'd like, BUT her relationship with Shel is so cute that I don't mind. And obviously we get to see King Al again, so how can I complain?

This is a light and fluffy romance that is perfect when you just want an easy read that ends with a royal happy ending!

This sequel focuses primarily on Princess Alex and how she deals with the aftermath of her actions in the last chunk of the previous book. Palace assistant Jenny also gets her love story told this go around. While the first book focused primarily on Christina this book (and its sequel) bounces around between multiple characters and storylines. 14 years later this makes for weaker story structure and writing but at the time I’m sure it was more common of the genre. Mostly it made the events of the story feel rushed.

The 'royal family' acted and talked like a bunch of rednecks, around page 40 the book still made no sense, so I abandoned it. Better things to do with my time.

What I like about 'royalty' in books is how urbanely they can be small and nasty.

Decent brain candy. Don't mind some of the plot holes and oddly constructed conversations - the steamy bits are decent and some of the jokes make me smile. 3 stars

Good lord that was rubbish. All that sex to cure insomnia and nightmares and whatever else she was dealing with.

Much preferred the first book.

I couldn’t tell if pages were stuck together or I’d missed but it seems to jump around in the beginning.
Found it much harder to read this one.

The third book in this series was my favorite (so far), but this one was still very good. Same Davidson style, different couple, great romance. Pretty much the same things I like about all of the Davidson books I’ve read so far.

The Royal Pain is about Alex, one of the daughters in the royal family, going to the U.S. and meeting a biologist, Dr. Shel Rivers.

This book had a bit more serious emotional stuff than most of Davidson’s books, and I think I would have liked more focus on it. Alex has insomnia, caused by her part in an attack on her family, and she’s not dealing with it very well. And, while there is some focus as well as the resolving of the issue, I would have liked more. There isn’t usually so much depth, or trauma, or anything very serious in Davidson’s books, which is okay, but I would actually kind of like more.

Alex takes the same route as Davidson’s other characters, hiding her feelings behind humor, and I guess my problem in this case, was that it didn’t seem all that honest or believable. I mean, I enjoyed the book, and I liked Alex, and I like humor and understood why and when a person is using it to hide other things, but sometimes there should be actual serious talk, and there wasn’t enough of that in this book. Alex is a bit more cynical and sarcastic, I think, because of what she’s gone through, and I would have liked more focus on that, as opposed to Davidson’s typical humor-focused style.

But, again, I did like this book. It’s fun, funny, easy to get through, I really enjoyed the romance between Alex and Shel. I liked seeing the other characters, and am interested in finding out how her brother met his wife in the first book. One character that I really enjoy all of the interactions with is Edmund, the King’s, um, assistant, secretary, or whatever. He’s very straightfaced, keeps his expression and his words unemotional, even when you can tell that he’s being sarcastic or is annoyed, and he knows just about everything. He was in the last book as well, and I just kind of love him. Also, the youngest brother, Nicholas, I find really interesting, and want to know more about. Well, and the brother Alex. I want to know their stories, as well.

So, while this one was not my favorite, I still really enjoyed it, and look forward to reading Davidson’s other books.

Princess Alexandri... the perfect princess - her life has been scheduled for her since day 1... and she's okay with it... untill they tried to kill her father and kidnap her brother, and she hit one of the attackers over the head with a chair and killed him. Insomnia ... and the she can only nap when she has baby Dora near by...

And her father and the psychologist send her on a pr trip to North Dakota to the Institute for Sea Life that they have contributed to... and Dr. Shel, head of the institute, wants nothing to do with a tour for a pampered princess... and when she passes by his office and overhears his ranting against her, gets a look at him, and she's intrigued... and he gets a look at her, and her no nonsense ways, and he's intrigued.

And their first time is in the snow, the polar bear exhibit (before the polar bear arrived)... and the 2nd time in the hotel... but Shel gets more out of it than Alex, and Alex sends him home each time... and Shel wants more - and he figures she needs to give over control... So he starts with seductions that move from handcuffs, to ties, to his hands to nothing... and it workds.. .she is able to enjoy him more, enjoy sex more... and after allows him to hold her, and sto stay... and she sleeps a little longer each time...

And dad shows up, and doesn't scare him off... and a cute side story, her uptight secretary is attracted to Shel's wilderness guide friend... but when he meets his identical twin, but metrosexual - they know within seconds that they are meant to be together...

And Alex cuts the line to Shel when it's time to go back to Alaska - knowing he shouldn't have to give up his life for her... even though he tells her he loves her... and after 2 days, he rushes to her to steph into her life as prince, knowing he can't live his life without her... hmmmm

Alaskan Royals
1. aus Versehen Prinzessin (Bonusstory: Brautkampf)
2. einfach königlich (Bonusstory: Jagdsaison)
3. Adel verpflichtet (Bonusstory: Prinzenschlacht)
