The book consists of Elementary and Pre-intermediate courses with parallel German-English texts. The author maintains learners' motivation with funny stories about real life situations such as meeting people, studying, job searches, working etc. The ALARM method (Approved Learning Automatic Remembering Method) utilize natural human ability to remember words used in texts repeatedly and systematically. The author composed each sentence using only words explained in previous chapters. The second and the following chapters of the Elementary course have only 29 new words each. Audio tracks are available inclusive on lppbooks.com/German/
This is a useful first dual language reader for learners of German. It has occasional errors and the stories are sometimes sehr komisch. The first stories are very easy and they progress to more complex words and tenses. Except for the occasional translation issues and the occasional implausible story lines, it's pretty good. A better gender balance among the characters would be nice.
I read this in hardcopy rather than on the Kindle as the dual language books work better on paper than as e-books, generally.
I obtained a copy through the Goodreads giveaway. I am excited to learn a little German and teach it to my son! This book seems like a great beginning!
Great book to brush up on German. I took German in High School and this helped me remember and feel conversational once again. I will use this to begin teaching my children German as well.
