I did really like this. I'm not religious, but the book didn't preach so much that it troubled me. I'm going to try to implement some of my own "to bes".

This book is split into 3 parts. Part 1 is about writing your own “to be” list. Simple, but not as informative as I’d hoped. Part 2 was my favorite part of the book, as it dove I to the author’s story of international adoption. I didn’t find this part helpful to the overall theme of the book, but it was a heartwarming addition. Part 3 groups To-Be’s into 10 subcategories and gives how-to suggestions on how to make yourself more happy, free, grateful, loving, healing, etc. This part of the book may be helpful if you know you want to focus on a specific focus. The suggestions were practical, but also felt a little cheesy. I lost interest in this part, which is a bulk of the book.

If you want to read a sweet story of international adoption, check out part 2. If you want to be mildly inspired, check out part 1. Otherwise, I might pass on this one.

This book has some nice little nuggets of wisdom to share.

That being said, I didn't find it incredibly helpful. Much of the book was the authors' story of international adoption, which is interesting to me because I too have adopted internationally, but because of that it didn't seem incredibly remarkable to me. Also, there was a lot of repetition - to the point of repeating stories. I very much got the impression that they needed to fill up more pages just to fill up pages. Many of the visualizations and exercises seemed a bit juvenile and hokey to me, and I'm pretty tolerant of those things typically.

I guess I would still recommend it for what each person can take away and benefit from.
