This is the story of a kid from the wrong side of Scranton who made it to the Naval Academy, played linebacker for the Navy football team for four years, became a Marine officer, graduated first in his infantry officer class, led his men in two intense combat tours in the Anbar Province, received the Silver Star for gallantry, and now has emerged as one of the most interesting figures on the mixed martial arts (MMA) professional circuit.
Phenomenal book that provides true insight into the All-American Captain Stann.
Don't read this book if you want some rosy-colored, quixotic view of Brian Stann; it's littered with candid statements, some from himself, some from others, and they happen to include an entourage of swear words (and then some).
If you weren't already convinced of this man's character, nobility, selflessness, and honor before, this book will leave you both inspired and humbled -- for if somebody like Brian Stann has moments of weakness, then what do the rest of us have left?
For me, the book proposed these questions -- and Brian Stann himself answered them in this autobiography.
Even if you don't agree, on politics or on principle, with the wars that he's fought in or you find cagefighting distasteful, there's no way somebody couldn't take away something positive from this book.
very well written book by the former wec champion, former ufc fighter, and former marine. the book goes through his career in the armed forces and the mixed martial arts circuit. as someone who has read a ton of mma biographies, this is one of the more well written ones. it is filled with tons of emotion and thoughts about his days fighting in iraq, eventually taking that experience to win fights in the octagon. highly recommended for mma fans.
