Katoucha Niane, in arte Katoucha, ex modella, scrittrice, attivista, ha alle spalle una storia di vita che ricorda molto quella di Ramata, linterprete perfetta.

Ramata è prima di tutto un magnifico ritratto di donna, così possente che qualcuno si spinge a paragonarla a Emma Bovary.

Il film omonimo è del 2008, diretto da Léandre-Alain Baker.

Ndione adotta una formula classica: la storia viene raccontata allo scrittore, che quindi non si identifica col narratore, al bar da un avventore,

Se hace complicado en un inicio, seguir los nombres e identificar a todos los personajes, pero te vas familiarizando con ellos con el paso de las páginas. Imaginas un Senegal cargado de contrastes, cargado de esencias, semidesértico y tropical, inundado de sensaciones contrapuestas. Por una parte la opulencia con la que viven las oligarquías senegalesas y, por otra, el resto de ciudadanos de "segunda" entre los que destacan los Ndong. A convoluted novel, the story of Ramata interspersed with excerpts of Senegalese history, customs and descriptions of society and traditional mores. I found it hard to follow the narrative at times as there are quite a few digressions that do not really contribute much to the story. However, the magic of Senegal is all encompassing and the beauty of the narrative lies in the passion for this country, the colours, the stories, the joints and the diverse peoples. Vaig decidir llegir aquest aquest llibre perquè anava de viatge al Senegal i volia ambientar-me. El llibre ha complert aquesta funció. No obstant, per a mi la història és massa enrevessada i té força parts supèrflues i inversemblants... No el recomanaria si no és per ambientar-se sobre el Senegal.
