It's riveting. Indubitably riveting, darlings. If you just can't get enough of convoluted wording, leaps in logic that rival even the best hypocrite, and page after page of practice questions, this is the book for you. As for myself, I just can't put it down. Though whether that has something to do with the super glue on my hands or the text, I couldn't say.

I checked out every gre study book our library system had once I found out that the test had been overhauled for fall, 2011. I have test anxiety when it comes to maths. I've taken scads of higher maths, but Gre seemed to be all about geometry and statistics/probability. All but the Kaplan book were incomprehensible.
Kaplan really focused on patterns and drills. For the maths, I admit they had some circuitous explanations that even my partner, a physicist, said were entirely too complex when time is a factor. I started watching videos on khan academy and mathtutordvd websites and filled up two notebooks with the problem in the Kaplan book.
Honestly, the most helpful things were the practice tests on the disk and the online full exams. The writing components have bugs, however. Never once did it think I had submitted an essay. Maybe its because I have a Mac. Hey, at least their disk runs on Macs. Previous editions and other guides are not Mac friendly.
Finally, I used the kaplan vocab flashcard app..
I like to think of this study guide as the solid foundation of my GRE pyramid. If you have test anxiety, I really recommend using their practice tests.
How did it come out? I missed 3 verbal questions compared to 20 on my first practice test. I still missed 21 quantitative questions, but that was compared to missing 75 out of the gate. I'm not going into engineering or hard science, so I'm not complaining!
The process made me realize more about my learning style and have me confidence that I really could do an online program or a traditional program. That's as valuable as doing decently well on the exam!

It's a study aid, not something you can particularly "like" or enjoy reading. But it is well organized, has good helpful tips for studying and solving the problems, lots of practice material (both on the CD and in the book), and makes me feel relatively well-prepared for the exam.

If I could love this I would...but I don't...cause it involves getting a score and lots of tedious studying :)
