Horribly Famous

Julius Caesar and His Foul Friends

Readers might already know that Julius Caesar is horribly famous for: conquering loads of countries; going out with Queen Cleopatra; and, having some back-stabbing chums. But this book will also tell them the facts no other biography is likely to tell them - that Caesar: was once captured by pirates; had a month named after him; and, invaded his own home town.

Julius Caesar and his foul friends was a book written about the great reign of his journey in rome. Horrible history adds humour and pictures to the book to make it enjoyable.

I liked the part of the book when Julius was not happy with the staue built for him, so then he executed the workers and demanded a new statue three times as big. This showed me as a reader that Julius caesar loves himself and is in charge. He is powerful!

It can’t be easy to write about JC’s life and complicated career in a way that’s succinct and entertaining for younger readers. I think this book managed it well, with some humour thrown in.
What I didn’t appreciate however, ( and I suspect this is more a reflection on the publisher rather than the writer) was the blatant rip off the Horrible Histories format- right down to the cover design and style of illustrations.

This book interests me as it doesn't talk of one specific thing, it talks about everyday life and explains the decisions made back then in a funny way and depicting fun facts with hilarious jokes.
