Kristofer Edan doesn’t believe in ghosts…so why does he feel compelled to believe the second he’s in possession of THE SEX RING?

Struggling filmmaker Kristofer Edan accepts a cash pay day to model the leather ensembles owned by recently deceased, celebrated artist Rafael Ortiz at an auction. Kristofer soon finds himself coveting one jacket in particular that has an unusual addition: a sex ring dangling from its epaulette.

When Kristofer wins the jacket in a second-chance bid, he’s in for a big surprise…the sex ring seems to have an intense energy, that when in use, conjures up sexual dreams and powers that Kristofer never had before. He soon becomes obsessed with the ring and the dead artist…painting huge canvasses that people say resemble those of Ortiz himself. Kristofer starts to feel the dead man’s presence and senses that Rafael is just as obsessed with him….or…is Kristofer possessed by him?

Maverick reviews The Sex Ring by AJ Llewellyn

MAVERICK’S OPINION: I loved this sexy short little book. It was chock full of sex and was a completely original MM love story. I always love when an author can surprise me and though I’ve probably read a thousand MM romances, this one was fresh and new. Kristofer (Kris) is a struggling filmaker, working a nine to five job at home on his computer, reviewing travel destinations for an online ehow website. He lives on the beach in the home of his gay brother and his brother’s lover, an older man who had once dated a famous artist, Raphael Ortiz. When Kris is asked to model a jacket that had once belonged to the long dead artist as a favor to his brother in a runway show, the fun begins. The moment he puts on the jacket, which has a cock ring snapped onto one of the epaulettes, Kris feels as though he has been transported outside of himself and he begins to act completely out of character. The formerly shy man is suddenly an outrageously flirtatious sex symbol who captures the eye of every man in the room including Jake Dare, one of the nation’s top porn stars and Kris’s secret fantasy man. When Jake asks Kris and his best friend to join him in a threesome, Kris thinks he’s died and gone to heaven. The night doesn’t end well for Kris and he wonders whether he and Jake, a man he’s fawned over for years, will ever see him again. Needless to say, as the story goes on, the reader is led through their love story as the mystery behind the jacket and Kris’s transformative personality continues.
I thoroughly enjoyed this short romp. The characters were very well developed and likeable for a quick tale and the author did a great job of making me want to know more about how their story would turn out. It was definitely a page turner and I finished it in one sit down, anxious to see how it would end. I was sorry when it finished because I could have kept on reading about Jake and Kris. The story had a little twist at the end with unexpected pairings that delighted me. All in all, I commend the author for doing such a great job and I offer a strong 5 sweet peas for a hot, sexy, and original short story that everyone should read.

The Sex Ring by A.J. Llewellyn

The Sex Ring By A.J Llewellyn

The Sex Ring is yet another book in a long Line of Great; Awesomely Amazing books my A.J Llewellyn. This book I think is one of this best yet not only because it takes place in his world but speaks volumes about how we as people under estimate the intelligence of our porn stars. Also I think it shows us that sometimes our own Guilt, failed pasts and the power of those who we loved and lost can sometimes over even death to make things right in our world.
Kristofer Edan doesn’t believe in ghosts… so why does he suddenly feel compelled to do, say and act in ways this shy young man never had in the past. Now the Proud owner of a Vintage Leather coat that once belonged to the late great Artist Rafeal Ortiz that comes with an Added surprise a beautifully designed Cock Ring hanging from its Epaulette. Having been graced with the Jacket in a second chance bid his new “toy” conjures up sexual dreams, hauntingly beautiful paintings and a love he never thought he would find or deserve after being left at the Altar.
A.J takes up into a world that is real and honest. He touched bases on things that make sense and really make you stop and take note of your own life and things going on in it. Of course there is hot dirty kinky sex… Just enough to keep you panting and wanting more… AJ has never ever disappointed me in his writing and this book is just one of his many many many stunningly beautiful. I love that He talks about real porn stars and real problems they have once they retire, make a comeback or just do what it that they do. We as normal people think that porn stars are just that sex addicts who love what they do… Ok well Most do love what they do what we as a people fail to see sometimes is that there is way more to them than sex.. Some of the greatest porn stars are Smart, stunningly intelligent and have talents outside of the bedroom. This book reminded me of that and for that I would like to thank AJ for that reminder.
For those of you who didn’t enjoy this book I think you should read it again with an open mind and see that sometimes it take a kick from the beyond to give us the strength to move on and find the things in our lives that we truly love and want.
AJ thank you for yet another book to treasure

A.J. Llewellyn's writing is not bad per se, but is rather simplistic. Anyone who's ever read Carol Lynn/Stormy Glenn/Lynn Hagen should know what I'm talking about. The book reads like someone's got their finger permanently glued to the 'fast forward at x8 speed' button, and characters tend to move from sitting down for a drink to true love to breaking up to marriage at an alarmingly fast rate.

It's also worse because most of the time these people are human, and so have no supernatural excuse to fall in love and declare themselves forever and ever like that. That said, AJL's writing might show no actual humanity in them, but it's decent enough to warrant a read.

Now onto a more specific review of this book:

As said, the speed which the characters fall in love is ridiculous: the MC's brother decides to hook up within one date, MC also continues on a similar vein, etc. The ending was not properly explored: it felt like the author drove us to a creepy mansion on top of a hill... And then just left us there, and not in a 'the butler will soon be here' way either. You're just left there, period.

What happened to the ghost in the end? He didn't move on/see the light or whatever. Granted, he's done what he probably came around to do, but what happens then? There's also problems with Jake/MC's relationship that I never felt right with, mainly that the MC seems to be under the dead guy's influence half the time they're together. Is Jake really in love with the MC, or is it just Rafael's influence that he loves? The ending never explored this. In fact the ending never explored shit, if you'll pardon my French, and great sex, while very gratifying to someone out there, just can't explain anything.

Still, two stars because this book kept me hooked to the end. My eyes didn't glaze over from boredom; I didn't skip whole paragraphs and was actually amused at some things. Faint praise, I know, but there's been plenty of books that I can't even say that much for.

If you like those authors I've mentioned, get this, or something from AJL instead. It's a guilty pleasure with less guilt and more pleasure.

4.5 Stars. If the ending had been a bit longer this would have been a 5 star read for me.

Several loose ends in this story, and technically not that good, I think - but the sheer silliness carried me along smiling.

I have to say that I've read a LOT of M/M romances, and none have made me laugh, cry, and want to hurl all in the space of a few sentences.
