John Lundin is the author of Journey to the Heart of the World, a novel written with the indigenous peoples of la Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in Colombia. He is also the author of The New Mandala - Eastern Wisdom for Western Living, written in collaboration with His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
John Lundin is a fine writer and his contact with the 14th Dalai Lama makes we wonder if holiness is contageous. The book could not be described as a "page turner" and it contains no great surprises. Still, it is an honest man's account of his spiritual discoveries, made by being willing to take a step of faith and questioning. My only complaint about the book is that, while it is brimming with information, it reads, in some places, like other books that educate Westerners about basic Buddhist philosophy. If you've not been bogged down by these texts (or if several are currently on your "got to read" list), John gives you a wonderful starting point to use on your spiritual walk. Those other books can remain unread.
