This is a boys own adventure, where Michael who lives on a
Hebridean Island learns of a Spanish galleon laden with
treasure which sunk off the coast and he sets out to find it. The
novel is on the curriculum for North Lanarkshire primary
schools. It deals with a number of childhood issues including
bullying but above all is a great adventure story.

About the author

Kenneth Steven is a translator, writer, and poet. His longest translation, The Half Brother, was long-listed for the Independent Foreign Fiction Prize and short-listed for the international IMPAC Award. He often completes work for NORLA (Norwegian Literature Abroad).

He lives in Aberfeldy, Perthshire, Scotland.

Read as one of the group novels for my primary 7 class. I thought the premise of this book was really interesting but once I’ve actually read it, it hasn’t intrigued me as much as the other group novels I have read. There is a lot of work that can be pulled from it, but whether is actually engages the children is up for debate.
