Health is Wealth is a book based upon hard evidence; not one filled with pseudo-scientific speculation and overblown promises about so-called wonder foods. Dr. Ignarro was as skeptical as most Western medical professionals are about the ability of food to function as medicine before he began to see for himself the incredibly beneficial effects of NO supportive supplements and foods on the vessels of the cardiovascular system. This book arrived, unbidden, in a box that I received as a 'perk' of attending a particular conference. I was intrigued for the simple reason that Nobel prize winners often do not write 'popular' books ....

As i started to read on Memorial Day morning I was pulled in ... yes, there is a bias, yes, there is hint of another in the never ending possible self-help "heal thy-selves" ... and yet their discussion of how things work makes so much sense it was to me, impossible to dismiss.

Not so much in the specific proscriptions based on "the latest news" but more in how they spoke of the set up of Western medicine which is about presenting symptom - diagnose the disease - prescribe the medications and so it goes. This work speaks much more about the underlying causes and the fact that health ought to be a long term proposition - in other words choices in your 20's and 30's do impact life in 50's and 60's. They also speak about the ability to influence outcomes and CHANGE the linkages from our 'modern' world to 'inevitable' diseases ...

To me - as much as I wish it were true - there is no "magic bullet" for any of us. each of us are true individuals and as such our lives require unique solutions .. in everything including our health.

I found it a quick read (although the chemistry and Aminoacids discussions do get a bit jargon-y) and it did offer alternative views. It did NOT say "do this and here will be the result". It talked about this is the best understanding we think we have about the way things work, here are the facts as we understand them & here are suggested supplementation ranges (and why). Up to individual to determine what to take into their own health view (and chat with their physician about) .... Not preachy - informational, although it is a bit dense.

Looking at ways to improve your health with out medications that have a multitude of side effects? Then this is your book. Very detailed, yet easy to understand supplementation and nutrition plan that can stem and even reverse disease.
