I'm not sure how you publish a book that "provides information on church history, and identifies important individuals, [and] movements" and NOT include the men who began the historical critical movement by which we still understand and exposit Scripture today, but this book manages to do so. Noth and Von Rad I can excuse, but Julius Wellhausen? Seriously?

I recognize that it can't be all-inclusive, but there is far too much missing that is of greater importance than what's included. Get it at a budget price as a starting point if you need to, but there are better options available these days.

I liked everything about Dictionary of Christianity in America! I bought Dictionary of Christianity from my local thrift shop for $3 because I liked the title and dust cover. Because I like to read and don’t have the income to satisfy my thirst for knowledge and entertainment through words, I purchase many of my books through the local thrift shops, the local re-reads stores and I purchase and borrow books from local libraries. When I buy books from the above named resources, I rarely spend time browsing the books so when I troll for books I’m not familiar with and sound interesting, I buy them. In Dictionary of Christianity in America, when I got home, I opened the book and browsed through the Abbreviation section, I was blown away at the level of information that would be included therein like the history of the various faiths, quarterly reviews, scholars review and expositors, journals of societies, behavior sciences, ideas, research, etc.

Dictionary of Christianity in America is the book that should be used in religious studies. Dictionary of Christianity in America has earned its spot on my bookshelf. Freethinkers and Atheists will find Dictionary of Christianity in American a great resource to use in study and debates because information can be accessed quickly.

An essential "sits within arm reach"reference for the student (or teacher) of Church History. Fills in American gaps in the Oxford Dictionary of the Christian Church such as Anne Hutchinson.
