Lively pictures are a secret of success for this book about taking a walk, a book that is REALLY about learning English-Spanish vocabulary.
Typically memorable is a page with the caption, "I see my neighbors' house." That means seeing laundry on a clothesline, and this might be the liveliest clothing you've ever seen on any clothesline. Not over the top, just so gracefully animated:
1. The pants 2. The shirt 3. The dress 4. Underwear 5. The house 6. Fire hydrant
Note the order of these items. So like a kid. "The house" is just item #6. Even though the caption emphasizes what a grownup would prize, "I see my neighbors' house."
Emberley's understated, mirthful sense of humor is just one of the reasons I'm giving this book FIVE STARS.
This book is for younger audiences. There is minimal sentences in the book. However, it is perfect for students who are starting to read. One thing I like is that the book is in Spanish and English. This opens for students to read it no matter the language. I think this book would be perfect for students who are ELL's. There is a lot of pictures and every picture has a label in English and Spanish so someone learning English can learn by looking at the word and the pictures. I know that many educators will have ELL's in the classroom so this book would be perfect for any teacher.
