A good book on the history of the Alliance church in Canada. However, sometimes it felt too bogged down on the details (e.g., focused on specific churches) that it missed out on the bigger picture of the development of Alliance thought, especially in the later half of the book. For instance, it would have been interesting to know how the Alliance development of the Statement for Alliance Bible Schools and the Statement of Faith tied in with the Alliance in Canada.
Yeah, it was helpful in knowing where we came from and hopefully where we're headed.
It could drone on at times, but I did feel a sense of connection with the Alliance brothers and sisters of the past. Hopefully we won't have to go back to five-dollar allowances and ministry on horseback into the rural night, but I feel proud of the Alliance roots we have coming out of this book.
If you're an Alliance pastor, a definite read, and if you're an Alliance congregant, a should read.
