Martha is a very special dog. She can talk! Her family fed her a bowl of alphabet soup and since then has been able to communicate with people. This book shows how it is to live with a dog that can talk and shows us all the things that Martha is now capable of. Martha experiences life in a new way! She is able to help other dogs when they need help, stop burglars, and even order pizza! Martha's life is anything but boring.

Easy to read sentences and pictures make this a kid friendly book. It is an easy read and the illustrations will surely keep your children entertained. I hope they enjoy this book as much as I did!

My 6-year-old periodically goes through phases where he is interested in Martha and the Martha Speaks TV show/books. He checked this out from the library and I told him he could probably read it to me. He almost can! There were a few words that weren't sight words and were "too big" for him to sound out on his own, but for the most part this worked well as something for him to practice his reading skills.
The story itself is pretty basic, just an introduction to Martha and how she learned to speak.

My son is learning to read and picked this book because he likes the Martha show. Some of the words in the book are represented by pictures, which is supposed to be helpful but seemed to trip my child up. He would often just skip over the picture (also some of them are really too small or obscure to be helpful). The story is just a simplified rehashing of the original Martha story. Some of the words seemed a little too complex for the intended audience.

This is a picture reader book. It substitutes pictures for some words. It provides a picture clue key at the front of the book to show the word for each picture. I like these books. They allow for interaction w/ the child.

Martha is cute but these books don't have the same appeal as Biscuit.
