A very good, comprehensive book on the history and making of beer. Because my edition is from the late 80's-early 90's it is also interesting in a historical sense on the renaissance of craft brewing in the United States but the beer and brewery recommendations are now pretty dated.

I just read Beer: A Connoisseur's Guide to the World's Best by Christopher Finch.
It was amazing as to how many of these beers I have heard of and tried. I learned a lot as well.
