Vampire Huntress, Volume One: Dawn and Darkness

Rate this book
Follow the famed Neterus and the Neteru Guardian Team from the epic 12-novel Vampire Huntress Legend series as they take the fight against evil beyond the Armageddon. In the Dawn and Darkness graphic novel (collecting the four-issue series), the team is still searching for the wounded Anti-Christ while trying to avoid the wrath of Lucifer. Complicating matters, several members of the team are pregnant with the next generation of Warriors of Light, and the darkness wants them and their unborn wiped off the face of the planet. To make matters worse, a new predator is hunting humans -- something not wholly vampire or werewolf or like any demon they've ever encountered... and this time the predator is out for more than just blood!

Uh.
Well, you might have a completely different experience if you're a fan of the books in this series. But since I didn't realize it was a book series, much less a "what are they doing now" kind of story for a (I think) 12 book series that had already ended with some kind of an apocalyptic war?
It was incredibly scatty and confusing to read.
I don't know who these characters are, or what their relationships are like, and I don't really even understand the setting.

description

I thought this was a comic about a vampire huntress.
But it looks to me like this is all angels and demons. Sometimes the women have wings? And they're being attacked by demons from Hell who are being sent after them from (what looks to be) Satan. But then a few of the guys they're married to say they were vampire lords in Hell at one point?
Or something?

description

The plot was fucknuts and the dialogue seemed really cheesy. But then it might make a lot of sense to a fan! I don't know.
This was a Hoopla Bonus Borrow, so I decided to try it out.
Some kind of introduction to the world would have been nice because, without it, this is a fans only sort of comic.

Not for me.

The artwork is slightly amazing, mainly by Brett Booth, then changes gears by another artist which by book 2 loses its artwork technique.

This is supposed to be an ending to the 12-book series.

The first story or book 1: "Ashes to Ashes," unsure of some of the characters although I read the 12 series (novels). The story was a little confusing and had to do some re-reading to make sure I was on the right track. 3 out of 5 stars.
book 2: "Dust to Dust"

I hope to like it since I have been rooting for this author since I read the first paranormal part of the vampire huntress series which I loved, then as the series progressed and further, it lost me and was not as good. Therefore, I am wishing for the best for this comic book one!

Hello Gemmies! I have an entertaining review to share with you today. Vampire Huntress Dawn & Darkness is the first and only graphic novel in the Vampire Huntress Series by L.A. Banks. With the resurgence in popularity in vampire novels, I thought it would be fun to revisit my all time favorite vampy series, The Vampire Huntress Legend by L.A. Banks. I actually never got to read the comics before so this was a treat. This graphic novel is a compilation of issues 1- 4 in the comic series. Dawn & Darkness is meant to be an epilogue to the series and takes place after Book 12, The Thirteenth. I cannot stress enough, It is essential to have read the book series to get the most out of this storyline.

Three artists contributed to the artwork in this graphic novel, Brett Booth, Greg Titus, and N. Steven Harris. I love Brett Booth's artwork and aesthetic and wish he would have done the entire series. I found the quality of the illustrations was lost a little with the other two artists. Their different drawing styles took away from the tone that was set by Brett in Book One. The covers, also drawn by Brett Booth were beautifully done and incredibly detailed.

The storyline fits well into the overall series and retains the sexy, tough, mystical feel of the novels. The story starts right after the events of The Thirteenth so if you haven't read the novels you will be completely lost. I didn't realize how much I missed this world and characters. I'll definitely do a re-read of all 12 books now! Published by Dynamite, Vampire Huntress Dawn and Darkness is available for purchase from all major booksellers. I give this gem 4 out of 5 gems. I'm looking forward to re-reading the entire series. Happy Reading!

Got this from Comic Bento. I have to start off by saying that I really did want to like this book. The premise sounded really good. Pregnant vampire/demon hunters saving the world. But I ended up feeling lost and confused the entire time while reading it.
I read the forward and realize that there are 12 novels that come before this story. But as a new reader to this "Volume 1" comic, I should have been given at least a little bit of an introduction to the world. Instead I was thrust into a strange world and story with characters that I had no clue who they were. I realize that this could be due to my lack of knowledge of the previous material. But you can't expect everyone to read all 12 books leading up to this.
The world building was zero, the character building was zero, and the overall story was flat. I had no clue who or what the demons were. I never got a good idea about each character's powers and limits. And frankly, the story was just flat out boring. The ending was way to quick and the big bad guy was beaten way too easily. I never really felt like that final battle had any stakes or that the heroes were in danger.
I also thought it was extremely strange that the art changed from issue to issue. There was no storytelling reason for this change, it just kinda happened. And without being familiar with the characters, I was left to guess who was who sometimes.
I also found a typo in the book which is not the end of the world, but on top of everything else it was a little too much.

I'm familiar with the Vampire Huntress series but never read any of the books but after reading the graphic novel I may pick them up. I really liked the Black love in the story Carlos and Damali(sp?) are a super cute couple. The ending let me know that more is yet to come and i'm READY!!!

I found this to be interesting. Didn't realize I was pretty much reading the epilogue of the series. But it did make me want to check it out.

This was terrible. It takes place after 12 previous novels and there's no introduction at all to any of these characters even though this is the first comic book based in this world. All of the women in this group of vampire hunters are pregnant but maintain 3 inch waists. They mention it multiple times that they are pregnant. I guess they just found out yesterday. They don't fight vampires either, but demons even though the title says she's a vampire huntress. This was like reading a book in a foreign language or I no longer understood English. They kept mentioning the previous books instead of setting this up as its own story. I guess if you've read the other novels you may like this but it had the opposite effect on me. I'l be staying away from anything with L.A.Banks name on it in the future.

This book was part of a choppily plotted something from Comic Bento that probably works better if you're familiar with the world or the characters. As it is, I didn't think I had much of an explanation who half the people running around in this thing actually were.

Some (too little) of the art jumps off the page, too bad the plot is overly convoluted and borders on the infantile.

The Vampire Huntress book series still resonates with me even though it has been years since I read those books. I am currently doing the 2016 PopSugar Reading Challenge; and that includes reading a graphic novel. So I've been wanting to read this graphic novel for a while and the challenge gave me the final push to go ahead and purchase it.

I liked revisiting the characters and seeing what they were up to in this new platform, but the story was a bit confusing to me. Or I should say it was a bit confusing the comic format. The dialogue bubbles were a bit hard to follow and I found myself reading them in multiple orders to make sure I was reading it right.

All in all it was just okay for me.

I recommend this graphic novel to anyone who is a fan of the Vampire Huntress series.

This is the first Graphic Novel I read from the series. Not too shabby.
I'm hoping to continue to read this series. I can't seem to get the Hidden Darknes Vampire Huntress series. :(

Nice art work but there is a couple problems that I have with it. Minor issues only.
