Amongst our forests and woodlands there are untouched pockets where time stands still. This is a story of one such place and the creatures that dwell in its valley.
This is hands down the most beautiful book I've read. Even after all these years those illustrations have stayed with me - the funny old Platypus with all his fishing gear, the bower-bird with his blue obsession, the gorgeous pic that looks like a glorious sunrise but is in actual fact headlights of a car about to run down one of our heroes - it's all just absolutely stunning.
Plus it tells such a great story, and introduces us to some fabulous Aussie animals, all while telling a timeless tale of friendship and acceptance.
If I ever have kids I'll be reading this one to them for sure.
I enjoyed this, though I was disappointed about frogmouth and his ‘magic’ - an unnecessary addition. And I can’t work out why the characters didn’t have capital letters for their names. Made it hard to concentrate! Otherwise a lovely little story.
