I think if there was one book to read to children about being whiney, this is it! I loved the re-hashed family story that the author put her own spin to. Apparently, this story had been told by her own mother many times over, the author simply put it to rhyme. She did that very well, I might add.

This story is meant to be a "moral" story making note of consequences for ones actions. I was totally immersed! Even being adult, I got it and kids would too.

The illustrations were top notch which is qui

Peter is a little rabbit, and he’s not a very happy bunny. He has a very negative attitude. He thinks that life isn’t fair; his sister has more soup in her bowl, more jam on her roll, and he doesn’t want to share or play with her. He wants everything his way. Peter’s mother tells him that if he doesn’t calm down and stop whining, he’ll be sent away into the forest with the Whimper-Whineys.

Alas, Peter soon finds himself in with the Whimper-Whineys. Everything is sour in Whimper-Whiney Land. Their

Peter and the Whimper-Whineys tells the tale of a young rabbit who constantly whines. Each day he tends to be “selfish and cranky and cross,” fussing about this and that. One day his mother has had enough when he complains about his sister:

“My sister has more soup than I in her bowl,
She took too much jelly to put on her roll;
She’s got more than I do, it’s really not fair,”

Review: Yet another fantastic winner of a book from Sherrill S. Cannon. Her stories are written in such a way that children will not only learn from them but love them! Peter and the Whimper Whineys is a beautiful, adventurous and colorful book that retells a timeless story once told by Sherrill’s own mother. The dedication is bea

Clever and Entertaining

Clever story to teach kids about why whining is not a good habit to have. When I whined while reading some of the character's lines my daughter covered her ears and asked me to stop. This gave us the opportunity to talk about how annoying whining can be to those who have to hear it. The Whimper-Whineys are amusing characters who have created a land that is sad and depressing. Just annoying enough to inspire us to avoid habits that would lead to such a place. Entertaining w

Everyone loves a well-behaved, sweet mannered child. So when we encounter a rude, selfish, demanding, whining, whimpering child we get into "get-them-straightened-out, teach-them-the-right-way, let's-do-better-than-that" mode. Author Sherrill S. Cannon has given us two such wonderful teaching story tools to use to help our ill-behaved children learn better and to help the ones who are not so ill-behaved make certain they are not classified that way. Let's see what she has in store for us in her ...more

Peter and the Whimper-Whineys by Sherrill S. Cannon
Once upon a time! There was a rabbit named Peter he had a bad habit. That habit was whining about everything. He let everything upset him so much he cried all the time. His mom was so tired of the his tantrums that she told him the Whimper Whineys were going to come get him to live with them if he didn't mind his manners.

The author's mother told this story to many children. Sherrill add rhymes to the story and put it in a book. I think she out did herself with this book. I enjoyed this one best

My Review: Peter is a small rabbit who is always whining and crying from morning till night. His mother told him if he doesn’t stop whining an old Whimper-Whineys will take him to live with them in a land far away, where he can join them in whining and crying all day.

And when he started whining and crying, standing up on his chair completing about his sister having more soup than him, he was sent off to bed. He wished he was outside and suddenly, he found himself outside in the woods in the Whim

Recommends it for: all parents with young children
After hearing Peter whine and cry all day about everything and everyone, meaning his little sister, Mom sends Peter to bed early with a warning. Peter must stop whining and crying, or the Whimper-Whineys will take him deep in the forest to Whimper-Whineland. When Peter hears a noise outside and goes to check it out, and old man who looked like he had just finished crying found him. If this sad, old guy is a Whimper-Whiney, Pete will be off to Whimper-Whineland. Do you think Peter will like livin ...more

Have you ever felt grumbly and complaintive? Do you like being around people who are that way? What about someone who whines a lot, do you ever want them to just stop it? Well, Peter’s mother was very tired hearing his complaints, whining and throwing fits. One day she could stand it no longer so sent him to his room early and to bed.

Peter’s mother had often told him if he did not stop his behavior, he would end up in the Land of the Whimper-Whineys. Is there really such a place?Peter did not be

Peter is the whiniest rabbit on the planet. Nothing seems to make him happy. He whines if he can't be the boss when playing games with his sister. He even whines because he thinks his sister gets more soup than he does at dinner time. Peter throws tantrums and makes terrible whining noises. Finally, his mother makes him take a nap. Peter remembers his mother telling him about the Whimper-Whineys who will find him if he doesn't start being happy. While Peter is napping he awakes, not sure if he i ...more

Peter and the Whimper-Whineys by Sherrill Cannon uses lively rhyming text to communicate to children that whining and crying are unpleasant behaviors that no one wants to be around. Children also learn that when they don't whine the day is brighter for everyone including themselves.

"In a house in the forest all covered with vines, lived a very small rabbit who did nothing but whine." Peter's mother tells him that he mustn't whine or the Whimper-Whineys will take him away to a place where he can

Sherrill S. Cannon is a master at writing such delightful children's books. They both teach a lesson without talking down to the child and tell a wonderful story. The illustrations always go wonderfully with the books. I have read all of her children's books and each one gets better. Gimme-Jimmy is an amusing story of young Jimmy who has a tendency to be selfish and always demanding instead of asking.

Sherrill S. Cannon, has a natural gift for writing for the young, her rhyming verses go a long w

Peter and the Whimper-Whineys is the story of a young whiney, "selfish and cranky and cross," rabbit. After receiving a punishment he falls asleep and finds himself in the Whimper-Whineyland. He learns what the whimper whineys sound like to those around him. This story teaches having a positive attitude even when things do not go your way. Also that whiney is not the way to get attention or what you want. This book is a must for parents and teachers everywhere! The illustrations are cute and col ...more

Peter can't stop whining and screaming. He always wants his way. That is, until a Whimper-Whiney man takes him to Whimper-Whineland. Will Peter learn his lesson and changes his ways? This book is a wonderful way to teach children how unattractive and unacceptable whining is.
