Snitzel von Krumm's bed is getting old. When the family replace his bed with a plush new one he isn't impressed, it just doesn't smell right. This story takes us through Snitzel's quest to find a new place to sleep. These are lovely pictures, very expressive with a great sense of humour, Snitzel always made my children roar with laughter. I've read this book to so many children and they have all really enjoyed the fast paced story and rhyming text.

One of the Hairy Maclary series of books, this has all the hallmarks of great children's literature. Fun characters, interesting stories, great use of rhyme and, of course, the ubiquitous call-out bits. I read this to a year 2 class and they loved it.
The story revolves around SvK's search for a place to sleep after his family tried to get rid of his smelly old basket and bought him a new one, much to his chagrin.

Everyone's favorite Dachshund is back in a brand new adventure! Schnitzel von Krumm loves his beat up basket. Sure the cushion is chewed up and the blanket smells funny, but to him, his bed is perfect.
Suddenly, Schnitzel's world is turned upside down when his family decides that he needs a new bed. The luxury basket is roomy and smells fresh and clean. But all of the newness makes for one unhappy ween.
Will Schnitzel ever see his beloved basket again? Can he learn to embrace change and enjoy what his new bed has to offer?
I absolutely love this book! My furry babies are very particular about their beds as well. I can definitely relate to the smelliness of beds and blankets that are well loved by my pack. I also love how the story introduces the complex concept of change to children. As an adult, I know that I struggle with things suddenly changing.
Lynley Dodd's illustrations are hilarious and heartwarming. Dog lovers of all ages will fall in love with Schnitzel von Krumm and his adorable facial expressions. This book is a great read and would make a wonderful gift for pet parents.

Schnitzel is a cutie pie!!
This one is a good storytime read for dogs, or even for change. Could be a good one-on-one read for parents too - maybe for a kid with that special blanket? Very relatable for those of us dealing with that 'Goldilocks' sort of feeling, looking for something Just Right.
Dodd is a NZ author who was recommended to us by one of our British patrons. So, these books might be a little harder to find with an average US vendor. Worth it, though. Her books have sweet illustrations and great rhyming schemes - repetitive enough for the kids to catch on, but not so sing-songy that the reader (group or one-on-one) would go nuts.

I love Lynley Dodd's books and this was a new one for me. The library came through. A charming and amusing story, full of the wonderful word play, rhyming and sense of fun that characterises these stories. Oh, for a complete collected edition.

Very sweet book. I can imagine my cocker spaniel acting like this.
Lovely rhymes and pictures kept my 5 year old entertained even though he is starting to out grow these types of books.

I just love Lynley Dodd. I'm just as excited to read her books over and over as my 2 year old is.

A sweet book about Schnitzel Von Krumm looking for the same comfort of his old bed in new places.
The repetition in this one didn’t feel as fresh as the other Hairy Maclary books.

3.75 stars. This story about a dog and his blanket that is told in verse is cute. It would be a fun read-aloud. If you like picture books about dogs, you'll love this one.

This might be my favourite of the Hairy Maclary and Co. books that Dodd has put out. I love Schnitzel von Krumm and not only is he adorable, I love how Dodd describes him. I think why I also love this one story in particular is because I have experienced the exact same situation with my own puppy. She loved her first bed so much it was a whole thing trying to get her to use the new, bigger one.
One particular joy of this story is of course Dodd’s illustrations. She captures Schnitzel von Krumm’s adoration of his bed and his loss when it is taken from him in humorous ways. His expressions are excellent too at expressing his mood and displeasure at his predicaments as he hunts for the ideal cosy spot.
In true Dodd style it’s not just the pictures that shine through because the story and rhymes are fantastic. Dodd’s use of repetition give a wonderful lyrical and melodic read whether aloud or to yourself. I loved how Schnitzel von Krumm’s bed is described and how the same description works for his love of it and the family’s displeasure.
I love this book so much, I have gotten emotional reading it in the past because I read too much into everything and become invested in picture book dogs but it is so sweet it’s hard not to. A definite must read for all dog lovers and Hairy Maclary fans alike.

This is a spin-off from Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy.
The protagnonist in this story is Schnitzel Von Krumm. SvK is a daschund who was one of the ensemble cast in the original. SvK's owners decide the old, smelly, worn-out basket has passed its used-by-date, and replace it with a lovely new one. Of course the new basket just isn't the same and the story documents SvK's attempt to find an acceptable replacement.
A fun book that everyone can identify with.

We really enjoy Lynley Dodd's work...she is becoming one of my favorite children's authors and my daguther also enjoys her fun rhyming stories and pictures very much!
In this story Schnitzel von Krumm is sad because his owners have taken his favorite bed away and given him a new one that doesn't quite fit him so the story takes us through many new beds that Schnitzel tries out trying to find one that suits him. Cute story and as always love the illustrations!!

Cute story about a family pet dog who loves his old ratty basket and blankets. When the family buys him a new basket and gets rid of his old basket, he's beside himself and just can't find anyplace to sleep that's as comfortable as his old basket. He's so forlorn that the family gets rid of the new basket and brings back his old ratty basket.

We are loving working our way through all Lynley Dodd's book! It stated years ago, when Zoey fell in love with Slinky Malinki. I love that you can find the same characters in all her books, and her rhymes and stories are always so much fun to read.

Of all the Hairy Maclary characters, Schnitzel Von Krumm (with a very low tum) was always my favourite. We used to read the Hairy Maclary books all the time as kids, they were my Gran's favourite. Just writing this makes me want to go read them again...they were really good.
