A helpful primer on The Declaration of Independence and the history surrounding it. The author writes,
Probably no single document has had such an impact on the modern world as the one written in 1776 by Thomas Jefferson.
While Conrad Stein's work is a "children's book," (one of those we keep at our lake home for our grands to read), I suspect it contains more basic knowledge about this document than the average American knows -- and it seems we ought to know it.

The little book is well illustrated and includes both a glossary and helpful timeline from 1754 (French and Indian War) to 1826 (July 4, the fiftieth anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the day upon which both John Adams (age 91) and Thomas Jefferson (age 83) died.

My mother bought me a good stack of these Cornerstones of freedom books when I was a young teenage girl, since I loved reading and history. I have used them many times for history projects over the course of my middle school and high school years. I have read this installment multiple times, and have found it to be a good source of historical knowledge! There is a lot of text in this book to give the reader a general knowledge of the history behind the subject. I do recommend this book, and the others in this series for anyone who loves history, and to teachers!
