This was a well-written, engaging narrative, with descriptive passages using vivid imagery. We enjoyed it and read it in one sitting. It was disappointing, however, that his faith and love for the Bible was omitted. The text talked about his two favorite books being a law book and a book of general information. I distinctly remember learning that his favorite book was actually the Bible. This text didn't make any mention of the fact that he was a Christian (few do, anymore).

These books by Troll Associates should be in every school library, they present biographies for young readers that are inspiring to both young and older readers. very well done. This is a good read

This is a nice informative picture book for elementary age students about the life of a young Abraham Lincoln. The illustrations really date this book (1982), and unfortunately most children would not give it a chance based on the lack of bright colored pictures. This would be a good book though to share with kids and ask how they would have felt about doing the chores that Lincoln had to do at such an early age. Goodness knows my twelve year old can hardly put away her laundry and would never split rails or help plow the land. All those grown up chores would make her long to go to school, another thing thing that Lincoln didn’t get much of.
