JM Stewart writes heartfelt contemporary romance. Whether the heat level is sizzling or sweet, her stories are always deeply emotional. Her heroes are strong but sensitive (no alpha jerks here!), and her heroines are more Cinderella than Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Recently transplanted, she now lives in a small town in Texas along with her husband, two sons and two very spoiled dogs. When not writing, she enjoys reading, cooking and playing computer games. As a sensitive soul with a romantic heart, she believes in angels and hopes everyone finds their happily ever after.
I ran into this author in some of the commentary for Fifty Shades of Grey. I liked her comments and decided to give her book a try.
To me this book is the Anti-Fifty Shades of Grey...there are no rich guys, no helicopters, no naive virgins, no BDSM, no humiliation, no pain, and no ass beatings. It is a nice, realistic story with some nice ordinary pleasurable albeit hot sex.
It is a romance, and romance is not my normal cup of tea, but I think after reading Fifty Shades I needed to read about some normal people engaging in a normal relationship with normal sexual desires. Stewart has a simple plot that she develops nicely, some mystery, and she does an excellent job with character development. Her love scenes are that, loves scenes. The same kind of thing, we ordinary folks do in bed. No whips or red rooms of pain. Her scenes wonderfully describe what is going on, there is no doubt in your mind, yet she does so avoiding usage of obscenity or vulgarisms found in erotica, but also avoids the gauzy vagueness so often found in novels where the author seems to be embarrassed by sex. Her scenes are vanilla sex but hot, I did not find myself bored like I was with yet another raunchy sex scene that was in Fifty Shades. Yes it is a romance and there is some "molten heat flowing through their veins", yet it is not excessive or so God awful syrupy that it wants to make you gag with the phony saccharine so often found in the genre. Extra points for no Holy Craps! or clenching belly muscles. Big plus that she told her story in one volume. There are no second and third books that you must read in order to understand the first. Nice down to earth story with some nice romantic love making. I am looking forward to her next novel.
Risking It All ( Morgan Family #1 ) By: J.M. Stewart This is my first book to read by J.M. Stewart and I really did not know what to expect. I did not have any problems following the story or the characters. I loved the two main characters Ceci and Kyle. I got upset with them a few times but this is one of those books when you start reading you do not want to put it down till the last word. Risking It All is a contemporary sexy romance. A very heart warming romance about Ceci and Kyle who have been best good friends for twenty years and live next door to each other.. Kyle wants to protect Ceci. She was raise by her grandmother who adopted her at an early age. She has no other family except Kyle and his family. She has always wondered about her parents. Did they not want her? She has nightmares and cannot make sense of them .Kyle is keeping some important information from Ceci. If she finds out he could lose her as his good friend forever. Ceci shows up at Kyle's door and tells him she is pregnant with her boyfriend's baby. What is she to do ? What happens when one or both good friends starts to have more than just friends feelings? Will they lose each other completely? Be sure and get your copy and find out more about Ceci and Kyle. I was given a copy of this book to read for my honest review , and I have given it.
They have been best friends for 20 years but sometime during the last few years everything has changed. Kyle has had to endure watching Cecelia date another man, cope with the loss of her beloved grandmother, and struggle with trying to remember the past that evades her. All while keeping a secret. When she ends up on his doorstep sad, alone, and pregnant he can't push her away.
This is a great story that will warm your heart and have you cheering. Ceci is a wounded soul and you just know Kyle can help her heal. Well written, great characters, and I highly recommend it to everyone. Can't wait for the next one.
4.5 Stars I love books where the couple starts out as best friends and realizes there is something more between them. That is the case with Kyle Morgan and his Cecilia Anton. They have been best friends for twenty years. He has been fighting his attraction to Ceci for the past three years. She has recently discovered her feelings for Kyle after a bad break-up with her boyfriend…one that leaves her pregnant and alone. She appears on Kyle’s doorstep, desperate for a friend. Of course he is there for her, though he has been keeping his distance lately because he has such a hard time controlling his feelings for her. Now that she is pregnant and alone, he intends to step up to the plate and be there for her.
I married my best friend, and I KNOW that those are the best, most solid marriages. I don’t understand the trope of friends not being able to take their relationship further for fear of losing the friendship. Excuse me? What happens to the friendship when these feelings are present and you DON’T act upon them? What happens when the person you care the most about moves on to another relationship? What does THAT do to the friendship? I didn’t have a lot of patience with the back and forth debate of not developing the romantic side of their relationship for the sake of their friendship. I felt that Ceci went overboard with that theme. I was relieved when that drama was over. That was the ONLY negative to this story. It was a mild aggravation. I still loved the story.
RISKING IT ALL has a layer of mystery and suspense that adds to the plot, and keep the pages turning – although the relationship between Kyle and Ceci is steamy enough to hold your interest. As far as book boyfriends go, I would definitely rate Kyle in the top ten. He was a sexy cop, with a soft side that made you love him. Sigh…
J.M. Stewart writes a solid and sexy romance, with just enough heat. It has a beginning, a middle and an end. There is no cliff-hanger. I loved it, and will be looking forward to reading more from this author.
*An advance reading copy was generously provided by the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Even in his sleep Kyle's body knows what it wants, "she knew desire when she felt it. She wasn't alone in that, either. Kyle's hips pressed intimately against her backside, and his undeniable erection nudged her butt." He's also a caveman when it comes to his girl, "then something snapped. A low, growling curse slipped from his lips, and he crossed the threshold. One strong arm seized her waist, yanking her against him, all fire and determination that evaporated the instant his body fused with hers." The girl knows how to show her man she wants him, "she slid her hands inside his boxer briefs to cup his firm, bare bottom and pressed him closer. "Kyle, please. I ache." I enjoyed this book and I really enjoyed Kyle I just loved him.
I received a copy of this book via Net-galley to read and review for an honest opinion. I truly, truly loved this book right from the start. a fabulous best friends tale of wanting more out of a relationship. Kyle police officer and best friend to Ceci has had more than a long lasting friendship with her. he secretly has loved her just as long. When Ceci knocks on his door one day in the pouring rain their worlds will forever be changed. Will Kyle confess his true feelings to Ceci? Will Ceci be able to move past their friendship and give them a chance. Not only is this book full of love and romance, but also lies and deceit. I cannot wait to read the rest of the series.
This is the first book I have read by Joanne Stewart and let me say Joanne brought feeling and emotion to life in this story with a beautiful way with words.
Cecilia and Kyle have been friends for 20 years, they have always been there for one another through thick and thin. They have a relationship that meant that either one could always call on the other at any time of night and day. However Kyle's feeling towards Ceci changes and he has to endure Ceci dating other men, dealing with her grandmothers death and trying to deal with the nightmares that plague her. Ceci can not remember anything of her childhood before the age of 7 and this story is about her finding her past, learning to trust and giving her love to the one man that deserves it.
What a wonderful book, you can almost taste the emotion coming from the pages. Every woman deserves a Kyle. Congratulations Joanne on a great 'MUST READ' book.
This is my first book to read by Author J.M. Stewart. Risking It All is a fantastic book and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. As I started to read this book, my thought was "I've never read a romance book quite like this before", but I was very intrigued. The longer I read, the storyline became more interesting and intriguing. The author did an excellent job with the details and all the characters in this novel. Also, the author was wonderful in keeping my attention to keep reading until the very end. I definitely recommend reading Risking It All by J.M. Stewart and I'm looking forward to reading another book by this author.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and author through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. This review is one hundred percent my opinion.
This is a wonderful book. Very heart warming. I fell in love with Kyle and Ceci. The friendship they have and to have it grow into something more, then the up and downs, and hoping for a happier after, well you are going to have to read the book to fine out. The book is well worth your time.
*ARC received via netgalley and the publisher for an honest review* 3.5 Saturday Night Date Stars. Reading the blurb on this drew me in. Best friends with a secret… Our main characters Kyle and Cecelia have been friends for 20 years. Cecelia shows up in the middle of the night and says “ Kyle, I’m pregnant” And the entire friendship changes. Cecelia is pregnant with another man’s baby, she has no idea what happened in her life from ages 1-7 has horrible dreams about blood and gunfire and doesn’t understand why she has no parents…Kyle knows. Ceci’s character is annoying and all the over the place. Shes hot then shes not. Everythings about pregnancy hormones and emotional rollercoasters. I really wish for an epilogue on this one. There are so many questions unanswered. This book is more than pregnancy its what happens when you stop being just friends.
This is a very emotional story of family, friendship and secrets. The first in a new series by a northwest author that looks promising for romance lovers who enjoy family drama.
Kyle Morgan is a police detective in Puyallup, Washington. He has known Cecelia Anton for almost twenty years; they have been best friends and tell each other everything, stressing that there will never be any lies between them. Unfortunately Kyle has been keeping two secrets from her and it has been eating away at him, enough that he has been pretending to be too busy to keep their standing Saturday movie night or their daily phone calls. Not only have his feelings for her changed from friendship to something more, he also knows about her past, something she is desperate to learn.
Cece has no memory from before she was seven, nothing about her parents or why she has always lived with her grandmother. She has recurring nightmares and is deathly afraid of guns but when she asked her grandmother she never received a straight answer. When her grandmother dies, Kyle reluctantly promises to let Cece uncover her memories on her own. Things start to change when Cece finds she is in trouble and goes to the only person she trusts.
Risking it All is an extremely emotional ride from start to finish. When Kyle’s feelings changed he was so confused and unsure, he hated to pull away but was afraid of how Cece would react. But when she comes to him for help he forgets about his troubles and vows to do all he can, what he does not count on are her feelings for him. I like the two together however Cece’s arguments of not wanting to lose what they have if something goes wrong gets a little frustrating, I also wish Kyle would have given up on his promise earlier, Cece needed to know to help her start the healing process. Overall I really enjoyed the story and will definitely pick up the next one featuring another Morgan family member and their struggles with love.
JM Stewart is a brand new author in my list and Risking It All is my first read of hers.
Kyle Morgan and Cecilia Anton have been childhood friends and have always supported and protected each other through the years. Somewhere along their journey in their small town, Kyle realizes his feelings for Cece go beyond the brotherly genre and he’s doesn’t want to jeopardize their relationship by admitting his feelings. Cece is left stranded by her boyfriend when he comes to know she’s pregnant and ends on Kyle’s doorstep for help.
Risking It All is a sweet story of a protector and gentleman Kyle who wants to do the right thing for his friend. It is a charming story of lovable and caring Cece, as she tries to understand her mixed feelings towards her childhood friend and deal with the nightmares that seem to haunt her. Risking It All is a pleasant ride of two beautiful individuals risking their friendship to make a future, as they put a closure to a present clouded in mystery and lay the past to rest.
Received a copy from Netgalley for an honest review.
Risking It All is the first book I’ve read by J.M. Stewart. I wasn’t sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised. I highly enjoy books with the friends to lovers premise and this didn’t disappoint. Friends who have known one another for twenty years…Kyle is there for Ceci in good times and bad. When she seeks him out for help, he’s there for her. This was a great story that kept me reading. It was down to earth and a great friends to lovers story. This was an overall good book that I would recommend. I’d like to disclose that I received a copy of Risking It All from NetGalley to provide a fair and honest review.
I don't read a lot of romance because most of the time the writing is just not that compelling and I feel like throwing the book across the room about halfway through even if I like the characters. This book was the exact opposite. Not only was it a sweetly romantic story, but the writing was great. Just a good old fashion love story. The characters Cecelia and Kyle were both believable and interesting. I like the dark edge that the author gives Cecelia. And of course, Kyle is sexy and male and just wants to protect her, which is hot. I really enjoyed it. Perfect for beach reading!
Ceci and Kyle have been best friends for over 20 years. About 3 years ago, Kyle started to realize his feelings for Ceci were more than just friends but he couldn't tell her because he was keeping a secret from her. Kyle is a really sweet and wonderful friend - great book boyfriend material. I enjoyed this book, it felt a bit slow at times but there was some great chemistry between Kyle and Ceci. If you're looking for a sweet friends to lovers story, this is a good one!
What is worse than being hopelessly in love with your best friend? Finding out she’s carrying another man’s child. From the very first line, this book had me completely enraptured and didn’t let up until the final page.
Ceci is a woman without a past, and Kyle is a man who holds the key to her future. Burdened with the doubt she will ever look at him in the way he looks at her, Kyle steps up to the plate when Ceci shows up on his doorstep. The foundation and exploration of their deep, involved relationship was expertly expanded. Likewise, Kyle’s dilemma regarding what he knows of Ceci’s past—the same he was sworn to never reveal—was authentic and intriguing.
You definitely won’t want to miss this book. It had an enormous amount of heart.
Received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.
I absolutely loved the tight-knit family aspect of Risking it All and who doesn't love a childhood friendship that turns into something more? The only thing that really bugged me is that Kyle kept the secret from Ceci for so long. He kept saying he wanted to tell her before they became involved, but there was so much time in between them getting together and her finding out that it made me lose a little bit of respect for him.
I also wanted more about the pregnancy. Maybe an epilogue?
*spoilers below* That being said, I'm really glad that Stewart didn't bring the guy back to finish the job...that would have been too predictable.
Risking It All was a really lovely book about two best friends, who secretly loved each other. I liked how the they didn't just dive right into a relationship together in the beginning.
It was a cute and quick read for me. I'm definitely going to read the next book, which is about Becca.
Kyle Morgan has always loved and protected Cecelia ever since the day she and her grandmother had moved in next door. Now she needs him now more than ever. She's alone and pregnant. Kyle knows he wants her and the baby in his life. Can he convince her once he tells her his secret? I love Kyle. He is such a strong, caring man. Ceci lives with fear and vivid dreams. She needs to find her parents and learn why they left her. She wants to know about her past so she can move forward. These two have always been best friends but now they feel a strong attraction. I was overjoyed when they became lovers. It was so romantic and touching. Kyle is the perfect hero. It took me longer to warm up to Ceci. I understood her but just didn't care for her actions. I enjoyed Risking It All. It's well-plotted and entertaining. Kyle and Ceci are strong and engaging characters. I enjoyed the supporting characters as well. I hope to see more of them. I really want to know if Jackson and Becca reconcile. JM Stewart is a gifted writer. This is such a heart-warming friends to lovers story that when I finished I was teary eyed.
Staking His Claim is the story of a woman (Ceci) who's tormented by nightmares and insecurities stemming from a past she doesn't remember. Her best friend Kyle, is always there to comfort her and gives her the security she so desperately wishes for. Things take a turn in their friendship from the first chapter and I could not put the book down. The story although not complex kept me reading, the sexual tension is very well written. The character's are developed and by the end of the book, I found myself slowing down, not wanting the story to end. I thoroughly enjoyed this author's writing and will read her again without a doubt.
Ceci and Kyle are almost lifelong friends when the story begins. They love one another but fears keep them apart. Fear of losing their best friend if love gets in the way. We've heard the story of love gone bad and that's what these two fear most, and it's that same fear that threatens to tear them apart. As another character in this book said, "Sometimes you just have to jump in with both feet." I enjoyed this book. The conflicts were real and all the characters likable, lovable. I was very happy with the ending but, and maybe it's just me wanting the story to continue on, but I thought it was slightly rushed, but doesn't hurt the story.
I'll be reading more of the Morgan family by JM Stewart in Whatever It Takes!
A romantic girl next door story of love and devotion. Kyle has falling in love with Ceci, a girl he has known for 20 years, since he was 10 and she was 7. Before dying, her grandmother shared a secret with Kyle about the first seven years of Ceci’s life – a time Ceci herself can’t remember. She makes Kyle promise to never tell Ceci because the truth can endanger her life and her sanity. For the last 20 years Ceci has tried to find out what happened to her parents, where she had lived before coming to Pullayup, Washington and everything else she can’t remember. Having promised as a child to always be honest with Ceci can Kyle start a romantic relationship with her while knowingly keeping the secret of her past? Could you? Whose place is it to decide what another person can handle emotionally? Is it right to make a second promise when you know it conflicts with a promise already made?Kyle is the kind of man every girls dreams of marrying, a man who will do anything to protect his woman and make her happy. But what can he do when the lines are blurred?
Kyle loves Ceci devotedly and I love how committed he is to her and to her well-being. I absolutely loved this book and will be reading more from J M Stewart.
I enjoyed this story. It was a sweet best friends that belong together type of story. Kyle and Cece have a perfect friendship but fear the attraction.
The writer grabs your attention right from the start with a brilliant introduction of the main characters in a way that gave you insight right from the beginning. You know what their story is right from the get go. It helps to see where they are each coming from as you read the story and understand their motives.
Everybody deserves a best friend like Kyle. One that will always be there for you and knows how to protect you. Although sometimes the protection is not the sort you want or think you need. But one that will do whatever they believe is necessary to keep you happy and protect you from horrible memories. Cece struggles with that but soon sees the truth in the benefits of Risking it All.
I want to know what happens next and hope that is covered in the next book. I'm invested in these characters now and want to read more.
Oh gosh I didn't know where to start the review. The story was, cute. Kyle Morgan has been in love with his best friend for many years. He never moved on his feelings for the fear that she might reject him and their relationship will spiral down the drain. The last thing Kyle want's to do is loose her, even if it means never acting on his feelings. But then Cecelia shows up on his doorsteps, pregnant, vulnerable and confused. Kyle's protective side kicks in, and soon he finds it even harder to hide his feelings and he might not be the only one with control issues.
It was cute. I didn't understand why now of all times Kyle choose to act on his feelings, since they have been friends forever and it sounds like he has been in love with her, forever. The story had a theme going, and it sounded repetitive. Basically it consisted of the two rehashing their feelings, how attracted they are to one another, how they wish they could act on their feelings, how scared they are to ruin their friendship and Cecelia begging Kyle to help her with her past. Over and over again, pages after pages, chapter after chapter, this was all basically that the book was about. If I heard one more reason why she couldn't be with him, I think I was going to go nuts. It's like, you obviously love one another. Isn't it harder when you both know this fact, but can't act on it? Why would you go through life torturing yourself and watching the other person with someone else?
That made no sense to me...
Luckily, it turned out for the best. Kyle was wonderful, patient and protective. He is holding a secret from Cecelia that might threaten their entire relationship, secret about her past that she so desperately wants to know. So when it blows up in his face, I cannot help but feel sorry for him, understanding why he done it.
Nonetheless, it was a cute read and I did enjoy it.
I got a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange of an honest review.
Risking It All is the first book in J.M. Stewart's Morgan family series. This contemporary romance is the first story that I have ever read by J.M. Stewart, and there were a lot of things that I really enjoyed about this story. I did have a few things that I didn't personally care for, but for the most part this story was a really good one.
Kyle Morgan and Cecelia Anton have been best friends for most of their lives. They have always turned to one another no matter what. But over the past 6 months, things have been changing between them and there has been a growing distance between the two of them. Kyle realized years ago that he was in love with Cecelia, but he has never said anything to her. Not only does he feel that she sees them as just friends, but Kyle harbors a secret about Ceci that could ruin everything if she ever found out. But when Ceci shows up in the middle of the night needing Kyle to comfort her, things quickly begin to change for them. Now Kyle and Ceci must figure out how to navigate their new circumstances, and see if the growing attraction and feelings between them is something worth pursuing. But with a secret still between them and Ceci's unknown past, will the ever have a shot at anything more than friendship? Or will everything between them be destroyed when the truth comes out?
I loved Kyle. He was sweet and kind, and was always looking out for Ceci. He was so protective of her and I loved how dedicated to her he was. He made some really hard decisions regarding her and their relationship, and I loved that he was always trying to do what he thought was best for her regardless of what that meant for him. He was so supportive and was an absolute rock for Ceci even when it practically killed him. Ceci on the other hand was hard for me to really ever like. She was a runner for one, always afraid to tell him how she felt and accept that things between them were changing. She was paranoid and insecure, constantly assuming the worst. They hadn't even tried to have a relationship, and she was already so sure that it would end in the future. I just wanted to shake her and tell her to see the great guy right under her nose. I thought that these two had a ton of chemistry, and they had a great foundation as friends. But the process of Ceci fighting herself and her feelings before finally realizing what she could have had all along was a long a frustrating one as a reader.
Overall, this book was good and if not for Ceci I really think that this one would have been great. Ceci really drug this story down though, and I couldn't stop getting irritated with her. Kyle was the one that really saved this story, and if not for him I don't think that I would have been able to finish. He was great as were his family members. I really can't wait to get more of them, and I am so interested in seeing what is happening between Becca and Jackson. I need more of that story. I thought that J.M. Stewart did a great job with the tension between Kyle and Ceci in this one and I liked her writing style a lot. I think that is what made Ceci's actions so frustrating to me, because I could see how clear it was that they belonged together and how great they were with one another. I would say that this one is worth the read for Kyle alone, and I am curious to see more from J.M. Stewart and this series.
Cecelia has hit rock bottom; her last blood relative is gone, she can’t remember parts of her past, her relationship is over and her best friend is pulling away from her. Her life is rapidly spinning out of control and Ceci’s unsure of how to regain control. Ceci’s best friend Kyle is the only person she feels she can turn too, will Kyle and Ceci be able to gain control together? Kyle is one of many in the Morgan family that has “adopted” Ceci into their fold. Kyle is a detective, who works hard to keep the streets clean, so what does he do when his best friend is dating a dirty guy? Childhood friends and neighbors, Kyle and Cecelia have developed a bond that’s built to withstand almost anything. The tension between Kyle and Cecelia is felt within minutes of starting Risking It All. Not only is she showing up on his doorstep in the middle of the night but also tears his heart out with three little words. Relying on their deeply developed bond Kyle welcomes Cecelia into his home and heart without consequence. Kyle willing steps up to the plate and helps out his friend however, Ceci is reluctant can she risk their friendship by accepting his help? Can they take it to the next step and become lovers? As parts of her memory are returning will it affect their relationship? Kyle has knowledge on many things but past promises keep his lips sealed. Those promises drive a wedge between the friends and threaten to end it all. The couple takes a break to rethink and re-evaluate their lives. With a little push from the Morgan family they take the big risk and let fate take it from there. This is the first JM Stewart novel that I have read; it was slightly different from my normal but still an enjoyable read. I did not relate to all of the characters but I did feel emotion/curiosity for many of them. While JM told the story between Kyle and Cecelia, she peaked my interest on book two, Whatever It Takes. If someone is looking for a quick afternoon read that includes a friend to lovers twist, Risking It All would be a go-to read.
This has to be the most frustrating book I’ve read lately! Not that I didn’t enjoy it, because I did, but Ceci’s continuous vacillation between wanting to love Kyle and being afraid that loving him will change his status from friend to lover and cause her to lose him nearly drove me up the wall! Kyle has his reasons for what he does and his love for Ceci made me applaud his behavior…the man was almost a saint to put up with her, as far as I was concerned! In most of the story, Ceci uses him as a pacifier, crying on his shoulder, crawling into his bed to be held and soothed—without any sex involved—he’s always a phone call away whenever she needs him, and it appears that’s all she ever wants. At one point, in fact, she says, “I’m don’t want to be protected, I just want you here.” She appears not to be able to see anyone’s view but her own, even when learning how Kyle has floundered in guilt because he won’t tell her what he knows about her former life. When he responds to her as a man and not as the childhood friend, she bolts like a scared rabbit while at the same time, admitting she’s having the same feelings about him. This back-and-forth emotional seesaw was almost tiring, but it had the effect of making me want to keep reading, to see just how Kyle was going to respond and how he was eventually going to get her to come around to his way of thinking and realize that turning a best friend into a lover doesn’t necessarily destroy that friendship but just may make it stronger, and also that sometimes, one just has to have faith and take a chance.
Staking His Claim is a good story and once I got over wanting to grab Ceci by the shoulders and give her a good shake (which Kyle does on more than one occasion), I enjoyed it. The angst of Ceci’s pregnancy isn’t the focal point here as might be expected, but the problem of a growing love between two people who have know each other all their lives. The characters are realistic and likable, though I found the Morgan siblings just a little too nosy for comfort. Still, it’s an entertaining romance and one you’ll enjoy.
***This book was provided by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.***
This book was a DNF at 32% for me, so I will not be rating it.
This book starts out with the promise of a ‘friends to lovers’ premise, which is one of my absolute favorite tropes. (Admittedly, I have a lot of ‘absolute favorite tropes.’)
But here is the problem for me—I really have to be sold if I am going to believe the whole ‘I’m keeping this secret from the main character for his/her own good’ mumbo jumbo. The secret in this book is HUGE, and I can’t help but feel Kyle is keeping mum simply to add some drama to the story line. This was something that did not jive with the hero’s character, and essentially, I just couldn’t get past it.
Kyle and Cici have been friends from a very young age, and it is clear not knowing about her past is tearing her up inside. He knows all about her past, but is unwilling to share this information in case it ‘breaks’ her. From what I know about Kyle, it would be more accurate of his character to share this secret and make damn sure he’s there to help put the pieces back together if she does break!
Aside from that, at 32% in, we are less than 24 hours into their lives and all they’ve done is go on and on in their heads about how much they love each other, but simply can’t be together because it might ruin their friendship. Kyle is taking care of that himself by not trusting Cici enough to be able to handle the truth about her past. And it’s so frustrating. Who is he to keep pieces of her life from her?
This book was just too slow moving for me and the characterization was off.
