the pacing was so good in the first volume, i don't know what happened now. they just character-introduction-dumped (?) a bunch and a ton of ~hidden motives~ got revealed, but it just kind of overcomplicated the plot for me.

A lot slower than I expected the series direction to go. We get to really sit down and learn about the main character's classmates. See where they come from, their hopes, their dreams, their hot headed moments all make for a fun story. While nothing in this volume blew me away, the slowburn approach was a welcoming story arc. I found it more interesting than the last volume anyway. Especially the first half where our main female protagonist is just trying to find some friends.

As with the previous volume, I loved this one as well. Before I get to this, keep in mind that I've watched the anime and love it dearly. To be honest, it's my all time favourite anime so far and I'm already quite attached to the characters. However, apart from the anime taking a complete different turn from the manga storyline -as far as I know- it's also been almost a year since I've watched it, so I don't remember every detail, which resulted in this being quite refreshing and fun.
To keep this short, here's what I think;
Great plot, intriguing twists and an amazing group of characters. I'm almost certain that I mentioned this in my review for the first volume, but the character development -I either expected in future volumes or praised in the first one- was present and all I've ever wanted. Stable, realistic and very pleasing. I love all the characters and though picking favorites could be a struggle, I have to say Rin, Shiemi and Shima.
The manga gives you more insight to the story and things I might have missed while watching the episodes were cleared with this one, though I'm definitely still quite iffy about Mephisto and whatnot (I don't think he's entirely bad, then again I don't remember the anime that well).
The verdict's in; I loved this, I can't wait, I want more. Really want to see where this goes and what my favorite team of to-be best friends are up against.
Pick it up.

Rin y Shiemi comienzan su entrenamiento como exorcistas en la Academia y puede que no sea tan fácil como creían. Existen diferentes tipos de demonios al igual que de exorcistas: Dragón, Doctor, Aria, Caballero y Domador. Para conseguir uno de estos meister, deben de especializarse en un área y eventualmente, se les designará un equipo.
En este volumen vemos las diferentes habilidades, cómo pulirlas y por supuesto, nos introducen a un puñado de personajes nuevos que serán los compañeros de clase de Rin y Shiemi, al menos hasta que alguien se gradúe.
Por otra parte, también somos testigo de la constante amenaza que Rin sufre siendo el hijo ilegítimo de Satán, no sólo por parte de demonios anónimos, sino también de otros exorcistas que viven con las heridas del pasado que Satán causó y que los marcó para siempre.
En definitiva, esta es una serie que está perfectamente construida y no tengo queja de nada. Tenemos comedia, acción, buen desarrollo de personajes y ambientación, además de que todos los elementos fantásticos que me encantan, son manejados de una forma que te mantiene a la expectativa de qué irá a suceder después.
Este volumen contiene los capítulos 4 al 7.

En este tomo podemos ver más sobre todo lo que hizo Satán, y todo lo que tienen que hacer los exorcistas en sus entrenamientos.
Hay muchos personajes nuevos, uno de los que me parecen más importantes en este volumen es Ryuji Suguro, quien comparte el mismo objetivo que Rin, ya que perdió su templo y a mucha gente el día de la Noche Azul. Una de las cosas más características de Satán son las llamas azules, por lo que Rin tiene que tener mucho cuidado de no ser descubierto por sus compañeros.
Shiemi fue un personaje que me sorprendió mucho en este tomo, como se enfrenta a sus miedos, y se esfuerza al máximo para proteger a los demás (y amé muchísimo a Nee).
En fin, tiene una gran trama, llena de misterio, acción y traiciones; personajes geniales; y en el medio de todo muchísimo humor.
Al igual que el primero, amé este tomo.

The second volume is about as exciting as the first one! Our characters keep growing and more mystery evolves in each chapter. I'm curious to know what the rest of the series hold!

I've read up to volume;
#3: ★★★☆☆ but this cover is so cool.
yukio is awesome!
I'm still in the early stages and the battles are not that great yet but I'm expecting amazing stuff here

La vida académica de Rin continúa y me gustan varias cosas:
*Cómo aprendemos junto a él la organización de los exorcistas, qué se requiere y demás.
*Las consecuencias de su nacimiento para los monjes y otros exorcistas.
*La dinámica que se está creando con el resto de sus compañeros porque bien lo dice Yukio, los demonios no se combaten solos y ellos necesitarán apoyarse en el futuro.
Por otro lado, no sé cómo esta gente confía en Mephisto si se ve resospechoso el compa. Pero bueno.
*Cómo aprendemos junto a él la organización de los exorcistas, qué se requiere y demás.

Blue Exorcist, Volume 2 is even better than the first volume by stepping up the action and delving more into mysteries and betrayals, making it nearly impossible for you to not get sucked in. The plot gets more complex as a gang of new characters are introduced.
This volume introduces tough, ambitious Ryuji Suguro, who shares the same goal as Rin. His father was a monk (aren't monks supposed to be chaste?) who survived the ill-fated Blue Night. Suguro harbors years of resentment from that terrible night, which is the driving force for him to take down the individual responsible for the terrors that occurred. It was fun seeing Suguro and Rin butt heads because their personalities are so similar.
A few other students are also introduced. Konekomaru Miwa and Renzo Shima appear to be Suguro's underlings, but they turn out to be really swell guys. We also meet best friends, Noriko Paku and Izumo Kamiki. Shiemi tries to break out of her shell to befriend Izumo, who acts like the typical “mean girl.” Poor Shiemi.
Shiemi really surprised me in this volume. She is adorably sweet, but surprisingly tough when it comes to protecting others. I am really looking forward to watching her character grow in this series. I loved her little familiar demon, Nee.
Along with the students, there are a few mysterious characters introduced. Is the staff well-intentioned or do they have other objectives? And who exactly is this Sir Mephisto Pheles? The plot thickens! Dun-dun-dunnnn
Learning the different fighting techniques of the Exorcists is fascinating. They are divided into categories according to how they fight. There is the Knight (fights with a sword), Dragoon (uses guns), Tamer (use demons as their familiars to fight – rare ability), Aria (chant words that kill demons), and the Doctors (healers).
This volume was a lot of fun. I love that there is a lot of silly humor thrown in between the drama and action. Rin cracks me up. I love how when he wakes up he yells “SUKIYAKI?!” That's what I would daydream about too. And, man, his hair-clip had me cracking up! I can't wait to read the next volume!

Voy a intentar releer la saga con pausa aunque sé que me constará, porque cuando me meto en una historia me cuesta salir y tiendo a sumergirme de lleno en ella.
Este segundo tomo es, quizá, algo más introductorio que el primero si cabe. Me resulta un poco más de nexo, aunque no de manera negativa.
El primer tomo giraba alrededor de la revelación, mientras que en este nos centramos más en Rin como persona. Lo vemos discutir con sus compañeros y conocemos los lazos que unen a todos ellos mediante las distintas amistades que hay entre los estudios.
Izumi y Shiemi toman protagonismo y conseguimos conocer algo más a las chicas del grupo, sus personalidades e incluso sus motivaciones (en el caso de Izumi solo vemos flashes de cosas, pero se deja ver que hay en ella más de lo que parece). Shiemi es un personaje que me encanta, aunque admito que en ocasiones me puede llegar a resultar cansina... Es una chica dulce que quiere tener amigos y valerse por sí misma (y ese momento en el que Rin dice que no son amigos, ay), y tiene una actitud que inevitablemente se gana al lector.
Suguro, aka Bon, es de mis personajes favoritos. Me encanta su trama, el pasado que lo ha llevado a querer ser exorcista y, por supuesto, su rivalidad/amistad con Rin. No voy a decir demasiado porque ya sé lo que se viene y me estoy adelantando, pero no puedo negar que me encanta leer esta parte en la que luchan y pelean, y la escena del Reaper y la declaración de Rin son lo más.
Como decís al principio, es un tomo más de puente porque se centra en las relaciones entre los personajes aunque para ello se vale también de pruebas para la acabe de exorcistas, lo que trae consigo escenas de acción que amenizan la historia y, de paso, sirven también para entender mejor cómo funcionan los exorcistas y sus habilidades.
Pero no por ello dejan de suceder cosas. Cada vez queda más claro que cada uno tiene sus intenciones personales más allá de lo que expresan. Mephisto y Amaimon claramente planean algo y el profesor Neuhaus empieza a mover los hilos de la trama que se viene.

Before letting younger readers read this series I should tell you it is rated Older Teen. It deals with elements of monsters(demons), betrayal. violence, and redemption(among other things.) So if any of those things bother you then you might want to avoid this book series.
Rin Okumura has had a tough life. He means well but he has always been a bit aggressive and after the first volume in the series he now knows that his true father is the great evil Satan who is responsible for the death of his foster father. Swearing revenge Rin joined the Tue Cross Academy to learn how to be an exorcist but he must keep his identity secret lest he be attacked by the others. It is a good thing his twin brother is already an instructor having been able to see demons since he was born but lacking Rin's power.
This book deals with Rin trying to fit in with the other students that work toward their goals to become exorcist just like Rin. In this we get to see how each student varies from one another and the conflict that arises from them interacting with one another as stress levels increase. WHo is the puppet master trying to take Rin out specifically and will any of his classmates get hurt in the mean time? I am not telling.:)
My favorite part of the book is when the class was being punished as a whole and Bariyons were placed on their laps as they sat on their legs(Baryons are demons possessing rocks that get heavier the longer you hold them as is described in the book.) It is an important lesson in teamsmanship and preludes one of the classes greatest trials thus far.:)

This managed to be even better than the first vol. We get to know and understand how the main characters feel and think in a deeper way, which I wasn't expecting to happen so soon, making it even more amazing.
I'm totally reading the next few!

The art is just improving chapter by chapter!!! The plot gets tighter and more elaborated and I need to read the next one.
The way the characters and the settings were drew is beautiful, the expressions and the architecture is wonderful.
The relationships between the characters are getting ticker and we see them evolve every page. we get to know their past and fears, each one is different and you get to fully understand them.
Amaimon, king of earth is related to some elusive demon!!!! Thats the biggest plot twist and I'm still really curious about it.
I just love this story, reading it makes me happy.

Hubieron muchas cosas que me gustaron de este tomo y que creo que están llevando la historia a un mejor lugar, y construyendo un mundo más rico que lo que se vio en los primeros volúmenes, pero en general todo me parece bastante parecido a todo el resto de los mangas que hay dando vueltas.
Como siempre, los personajes secundarios en estas historias son los que le dan volumen a a historia, y hemos empezado a conocer un poco más sobre ellos,y por otro lado la historia de conspiración por detrás de todo se siente un poco gastada.
Los dibujos por otro lado son geniales, asi que vamos a esperar a ver que nos traen los próximos tomos.

We're slowly building up the cast, with Suguro and Kamiki leading the way. Rin is the main character and seems to be the target of all the demons attacking the class, but he's also not the star. He doesn't develop or grow much more than he did in the first volume, instead being a constant while others get their chances to shine. I like that Kazue Kato is taking it slow and making us care about the cast - I hope that Blue Exorcist avoids the usual shonen trope of building up a cast then abandoning them immediately to focus on just the main boy.

I’m glad to be back in this universe! This was a fun book because we get to meet more of the classmates/cast of characters.

I forgot how adorable Rin is. I like Bon and I think have an interesting dynamic. I also really love Shiemi and don’t want anyone to be mean to her! She’s so sweet and she has a familiar that’s pretty freaking awesome. I’m interested to see where this goes next.

This introduces a lot of new characters tot the series, which usually I love but it felt like a lot of early high school drama people dynamics (boasting, push back, rah rah) and definitely see a potential love triangle.
It's only the second volume, and I wonder if this series isn't for me. Or I might just not been in a younger mood these days. I think I put the series to the side for a bit and maybe pick it up later. We shall see!
