Roy Hunter is an expert in the field of hypnosis. He was specially selected to carry on the work of the Grand Master of Hypnotherapy , the late Charles Tebbetts, who was a master teacher and contributor to the art/science of hypnosis and hypnotherapy. This book is based upon the training course of Tebbetts, which has been updated by Roy Hunter. Tebbetts training has formed the basis of a large number of hypnotherapy courses taught in America and Europe. The Art of Hypnosis is well-written and easy to read and understand, even for the novice. In-depth and practical information is given on how to achieve maximum results in a hypnotic session by phrasing suggestions properly and by using various techniques to determine which approach is best for each individual client. What is hypnosis and why use it? Hypnosis yesterday and today Inductions and awakening Deepening the hypnotic state Testing during hypnosis Ethics and potential dangers Self-hypnosis for stress coping Concepts about the subconscious taught by Charles Tebbetts Introducing the Art of Hypnotherapy The previous edition of this book was published with ISBN 978-075751101-1.
I liked this book because is about client centered hypnosis and therapy. Though it covers a wide spectrum of topics it is easy to read. Roy Hunter presents various techniques in both parts therapy and regression and reminds therapists to stay objective. Clients can unconsciously validate preconceived opinions about a cause with false memories if the therapist uses leading question instead of choosing appropriate guiding questions. The book contains step-by-step guides and the author shares a wisdom from many years of experience in the field.
I was very skeptical about hypnosis until a friend demonstrated it to me. Now hypnosis is my tool of choice for self-improvement, and this book is considered the best overview / basic course for those who want to learn it. Note: this is not about how to embarrass people on a stage, but rather how to use hypnosis to improve your life and the lives of others in consensual situations. The book was a very smooth read, really pleasant for a non-fictional book.
As a follow-up, my friend recommended "The Art of Hypnotherapy" by the same author and a collection of tried-and-true hypnosis scripts which you can find basically anywhere.
The book is a great overview of hypnosis and its application to solve different problems. It has a practical aspect to it which emerges from cases and transcripts but also a formal aspect that covers many areas including ethical questions relating to practice.
i learned so much from this book! working at a practice where hypnosis is a primary treatment intervention, this is something that i talk about frequently, but didn't have a full knowledge of. hope to learn more & receive at least some training in the future!
This is a GREAT book about hypnosis / hypnotherapy. It’s a how-to book, easily understood, certainly harder to master the techniques than understand them.
The author editorializes a lot and it's kind of bothersome. It's explanations of basic hypnotic techniques were very clear and straight-forward, though. I found it to be a helpful book as I'm getting back into hypnosis.
It does seem like there were some concepts, like anchoring and triggers, that should have been included in this book, but the author placed in the second book.
I mostly loved doing the scripts as homework with my friends who were willing volunteers! That was so outstanding. He offers beautiful scripts. His other writing, however, was hard for me to get excited about. Overall, a great book for those who are familiar with self-hypnosis and want to learn more details.
Excellent introduction to hypnosis. I could not have gotten something more user friendly that gives a good general idea on hypnosis and hypnotherapy. I recommend this book to anyone interested on those subjects
