This is a book for true book lovers, and only book lovers! Of course the title "Bibliotopia" suggests as much. A super quick read, filled with fun and interesting facts about books and bibliophiles and authors alike!! The beginning portion is random tidbits about every aspect of books. Publishing, history, and then the majority of the rest consists mostly of lists. I spent my entire evening looking up all the different books mentioned. They would be categorized, British Lit, German Lit, Famous last lines, authors who killed themselves, authors who went to Harvard, etc etc. it CAN get slightly repetitive but if you love books and are interested in all genres, it's a good book for references!!!

Eine Sammlung literarischer Fakten und Kuriositäten rund um das Thema Buch .Man findet Zitate aus und über Bücher, Auflistungen der Liebespaare in der Literatur oder auch eine Auflistung der Romane in denen Tiere eine tragende Rolle spielen. Welches ist da kleinste/größte/dickste/teuerste/längste ... Buch der Welt ?-steht alles hier drin. Genauso wie 25 Schriftsteller die Selbstmord begangen haben oder die 12 Klassiker der Kriminalliteratur usw. Ich finde das Buch musste jeder Bibliomane besitzen!

Very good book of quotes & Less known facts about the book world. Memorable opening lines, Memorable closing lines, quotes by Terry Pratchett, Raymond Chandler & Edith Wharton. Lots of where they went to college, and the description of the various awards that each author had won. Quite a few books I've added to my to-read list from reading this book.

If you love books, you're going to love THIS book. OK, I'm a friend of Mr. Gilbar's. Nevertheless, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I read it (against instructions) from front to back (or "kiver to kiver" as my mother would have said) over a couple of days. It's one of those "everything you ever wanted to know" about, well, books.

{f; unz.} krankhaft übersteigerte Büchersammelwut [zu griech. biblion >>Buch<< + mania >>Wut, Wahnsinn, Begeisterung<<]

Ich gebe es zu, ich bin ein Buch Nerd.
Ich konnte dieses kleine Werk einfach nicht aus der Hand legen und dabei besteht es wirklich nur aus Listen – aber die haben es in sich!

Man findet so unglaublich viele Informationen über Bücher, Autoren, Preise, Fachbegriffe, dass es eine echte Freude ist. Triviale und wichtige Details sind hier kreuz und quer arrangiert und man entdeckt als Leser immer etwas, was man noch nicht gewusst hat oder eine Liste von Büchern, die man mit einem Post-It versieht, weil man sie “abarbeiten” möchte oder ein kleines Lexikon, das einem kurz und bündig Fachausdrücke des Buchdruckens oder ähnliches erklärt. Mit hat dieses Buch wirklich viel Spaß gemacht.

Ein wirklich interessantes, kurzweiliges Buch mit vielen Aufzählungen und sehr kurzen Informationshappen zu unterschiedlichsteen Aspekten zum Thema Buch. Das Buch schwimmt damit leider schon ein wenig mit auf der "Listen"-Mode und die ein oder andere Aufzählung ist nicht allzu spannend. Auch ist schade, dass man nicht weiß, welche Listen bei der Übersetzung aus dem Amerikanischen an den deutschen Marlkt angepasst wurden. Aber schon die Reihe der schönsten Anfangs- und Schlussätze lohnt oder auch die Liste mit den zehn besten Büchern über Bücher und das Lesen. Bin dabei auf folgende Bücher gestoßen, die ich bislang noch nicht kannte: Jasper Fforde: Die Affäre Jane Eyre und Fritz Leiber: Herrin der Dunkelheit.

A bundle of goodness filled with a plethora of yummy morsels about books and book facts. Lists upon lists of nothing but pure book joy. Definitely contains unique tid bits that may only (perhaps) be appreciated by those of us who humbly consider ourselves lovers of literature. An interesting read indeed!

What's not to like about this little book if you're a bibliophile? It's filled with trivia, useful information, interesting lists,... about books and authors. A quick read, but it can be opened anywhere and read one page at a time. A perfect book for those times when you don't have a lot of time to read, but you want to anyway.

Well, this little book had some fun spots--fun trivia, a few fun quotes. But a lot of it was endless lists of real names of authors and authors who attended which colleges--not the most exciting stuff. A few fun quotes are always good, though.
