So apparently I requested this at the library. I have no idea why. And after trying it I have a suspicion they logged it to the wrong account. Anyway, very definitely not my book. Quit at page 22, when the hero started describing the heroine's tight, curvy, golden body while she was spoon-feeding him soup. Nuh uh.

This is the only Envy book I've read, but now I gotta say the series has me fascinated. Love the characters, the gritty post-apocalyptic setting, and the overarching conflict. The only thing that drove me absolutely batty, this is a pet peeve of mine so many may not feel the same, is the near constant pop culture references. One or two is fine, maybe even humorous to me, but dozens scream shortcut to me. Describe something and let me decide what it is. I don't need the didactic commentary that s ...more

It's been a while since I had read any books in this series and I have been dying to dive back in. Night Beckons was the perfect book to get me back into this world.

Selena is called the Death Lady and her 'abilities' enable her to ease pain of the dying and help them transition into the next world. YIKES! That is one freaky ability. It's not a wonder why no one wants her around. However, she has other secrets she's doesn't share. And speaking of secrets, Theo has a doozy. He survived the Change

Worst in the series so far. It was so slow and boring until the last 85% I skimmed through most of it. Theo is NOT one of my favorite characters, almost none of the original 5 (Elliot, Simon, Wyatt, Quent & Fence) were in this, and Selena's power was incredibly stupid. Also there were a few basic continuity problems that just piss me off every time. For one, they clean Selena's wounds with Vodka, then Theo finds the "bottle of Whisky they has used to clean Selena's wounds". Also annoying was ...more

I could not finish this book. I didn't like the idea, I couldn't get into the story and the characters weren't really developing at all and I was pretty much confused the entire time.

Now, this may (or may not) be because it's the 4th in the series.. though I was told they could be read stand alone.
If I am missing a lot of information due to skipping the first 3 then perhaps that is my fault.
But there are far too many good books out there to read, to be stuck in one that I wasn't feeling.
I will

MinnChica: I have to say, I started reading the Envy Chronicles just a few short months ago, and Ware has quickly become my FAVORITE post-apocalyptic author. I love the world she’s created!

Has: I read the first book when it first came out earlier last year, because I am always a sucker for a dark/dystopian setting. So when I discovered that the 4th book was up on Netgalley – I soon grabbed the chance to read it and I have to say it was a book t

Selena is pretty cool but Theo is an ass. I just couldn't root for him. Gawd he is just such a self centered character I wanted him to piss off the whole time.

FYI:
MCs' & the majority of the other characters are a little older than is usual for these types of novels, which isn't a problem, just something different & therefore noteworthy.
There's a lot of movie references, it obvious that the author is a film buff.

Main reasons why I didn't like the novel:
MC's are melodramatic, & the MC's 'special' abilities are ridiculous & aren't credible (even for fiction). Female MC can tell that people are going to die soon (which is completely unhelp

For me this 4th book stepped things up dramatically, to the point am happy to say book 5 is waiting in my TBR shelf and looking forward to diving in hoping the momentum will continue to build for these characters.

My Take:
Some details about living conditons:
I am not going to talk about the story line and such as that information is provided above. The main love connection is between Theo and Selena. The problem for Selena is that Theo looks to be 12 years or so younger than she is. His twin brother is Lou, except that Theo has not aged as fast as Lou. They have been living in Envy, a play on the N and the V in the abbreviation for Nevada and what used to be Vegas. I guess that means there would have been

I've said it in previous reviews, I love the world Joss Ware has created in her post-apocalyptic series. The romance on the other hand, generally came in second to the world. I was pleasantly surprised this time with both Theo and Selena. Theirs is a romance begun with chance and continued with mutual attraction and respect.

Theo is a wonderful hero who proves computer geeks can be sexy! The fact that he's also buff and has a wicked sense of humor doesn't hurt either. Theo was born before the Cha

I love every journey Joss Ware takes through in this complex, interesting post-apocalyptic world!
Quent, Abandon the Night, was a favorite and I didn't think Ware could do better then that but I was just proven wrong!
I’ll be honest, I wasn’t sure if I’d enjoy Theo’s book as he wasn’t one of my favorite men in the series but Night Betrayed definitely surpassed my expectations.

Everyday is still a struggle to stay alive in the fourth book of Joss Ware's post-Apocalyptic series. Ever since the Change, the day where Zombies took over and society ended, those left alive are trying to put their lives back together. For Theo Waxnicki his life will definitely never be what it once was. On the day of the Change his body mutated to stop him from aging and to heal very quickly. He's always seen his perpetual youth as a good thing until he meets Selena. Known as the Death Lady, ...more

(RabidReads.com)Book four of the Envy Chronicles tells Theo’s story. Theo is seventy eight, but due to a weird situation that happened during the “Change” he only looks about thirty. To keep things even more interesting, he has a twin brother that does look every bit of his age. Both survived the apocalypse that happened fifty years before and both are part of the resistance. Resistance is needed due to the “Strangers” that rule the world, are immortal, and pretty much live in luxury while every ...more

Night Betrayed, the fourth book in Joss Ware’s post-apocalyptic romance series, is yet another enjoyable installment. This book tells Theo’s story. I enjoyed Theo in most of the other books and was eagerly anticipating his story. However, he was rather irritating in Sage’s book, Embrace the Night Eternal. But he returns to being the Theo readers have come to know and love.

I think Theo is one of my favorite characters because he’s from before The Change and is able to bridge the gap of today’s w

My Review:
For some reason, this book seems much harsher to me than the others in this series have been. I am guessing that the reason for that is because, in this book, we become much more familiar with the gangas (zombies) and what they actually are and how that have come into creation.

In addition, this book focuses on Theo. Theo is an interesting character from this series. He was in Vegas with his twin brother when the Change (apocalypse) occurred, but his experience was different from his tw

If someone had told me I would really enjoy an ongoing series where, although labeled romance, that aspect kind of takes a back seat, and the setting in years in the future after an apocalyptic ‘end of the world’ scenario, I would have said ‘right, and pink pigs fly. But I would have been forced to find those flying pink pigs because I do love this series and Night Betrayed is no exception. Though the hero, Theo Waxnicki is in his 80’s, he stopped aging when the catastrophe happened fifty years ...more

I was a bit disappointed by this book in the Envy Chronicles. Please keep in mind that these book need to be read as a series ad in the correct order. This book SHOULD NOT be read as a stand-alone.
Theo and Selena don’t really connect. She’s too busy making a fuss about their age difference. As we know from the previous books Theo is close to 80 years old. He was wounded during the Change and was left with a computer integrated circuit in his back. The circuit in his back is fitting since he an

Part of me really liked this book and part of me wished I had read the previous three books in the series because as much as I enjoyed the characters and the idea behind the devastating Change, I was a little lost at some parts.

The world Joss Ware has created is dark and dangerous and infested with Zombie-like critters who are on an eternal quest to find a man named Remington Truth. The humans who have survived live in walled villages and do their best to survive. Throw in a shady group of quasi

Series note: The Envy Chronicles involves an ongoing story arc and as such the books should be read in order.

When Theo Waxnicki is brought in to Selena’s small clinic on the brink of death, she doesn’t think twice before saving his life. Determined to make the most of his third chance at life, Theo sets out to convince Selena that the attraction they feel for each other is real. Can he get past her defenses and unveil her secrets before it is too late?

Joss Ware has created an apocalyptic world in which a group of “gag me I’m so rich” people called Strangers have absolute control. There are gangas (zombies) and rebels fighting against the Strangers, but there are also tons of questions that have been building up through the series. Night Betrayed is book four and at least two other books will be in the series.

It is not a fluffy book. It addresses hard topics and is filled with dark threads. I’m not sure if an easy way out is taken, but one pos

This book takes place in a futuristic world, where most of the worlds population is dead. I didn't read the first three books in this series so I was lost a little bit trying to catch up but it wasn't too bad. I'll be honest, after the awesomeness of the first 3 books, this one was a let down. I've loved Theo from the first book, even in book two with all the drama with Sage and Simon I still had a bit of a soft spot for Theo. Now... I'm not so sure how I felt about Theo. He's got this whole alpha male thing going on, which at times I found to be really annoying. Selena his love interest was not an interest to me. BEST BOOK IN THE SERIES SO FAR!

I loved this book. In book four, we learn how the smaller communities outside of Envy live, and it focuses our attentions on Theo. There is very little mention of the other main characters in the series until the last few chapters.

At the end of book 3 Theo was shot and then his body disappeared when his friend went to get help. He turns up at the house of the infamous death lady, but instead of helping him to the other side, she miraculously cures him. He finds h
