The Devil King and his friends check out a wedding venue, buy swimsuits to work at the beach and…get marooned on a desert island?! This collection of original comic stories, drawn by a lineup of artists and fans of the series, collects episodes which may, or may not, have taken place during the main story!
A pretty mixed bag, but unlike the Mieruko-chan anthology, all of the creators seem to have a firm grasp of the series and characters. That counts for a lot.
A fun collection of short stories in the Hataraku Maou-sama world, taking place in the point of the storyline mostly after Alas Ramus shows up, before any of the going back to Ente Isla and (whatever is going on after the gap from reading well ahead since I couldn't find all of the intermediate volumes between the books I could find and where the anime leaves off), probably because that's the point in time with the highest sitcom value.
The stories have a high amount of Thirsty Chiho, between going cosmetics shopping with him, going to a wedding(!!) tour with him, going to a maid café and HAPPENING to see he is helping out there...
...being invited on a free vacation to a couples' hot spring (suspiciously valid for "up to six people") and somehow winding up in the men's bath while Maou is in there...
...and even when going shopping for bathing suits *for Bell* but ending up trying some on herself and thinking of what Maou would think.
Probably the most interesting story is Alas Ramus getting dumped on Urushihara for babysitting while the other characters are occupied with things that *more competent, less freeloading* people are able to do better. Probably the least interesting are the stories about just going shopping/on the free tour (collectively), since it feels like they all share the same joke.* The maid café one... is predictable, but the ending is kind of nice, so I forgive it.
On the whole, a fun read, but definitely not for newcomers, who probably won't get a very lot of the situational comedy (other than the "OOO, THE MAN'S IN TROUBLE FOR LOOKING AT THE TEEN GIRL WHO WANDERED INTO THE MEN'S BATHROOM BY NO FAULT ON HIS PART!!" "comedy").
*The "lovelorn girl falls for oblivious, asexual boy" "joke." Though I guess the bridal tour at least has the joke of "It doesn't matter, just lie about your occupation" = Maou lies that he's a FULL-TIME employee + Chiho says her occupation is "bride"... uh... wow, girl.
