I'm so mad at Maureen Smith! She did it again: Roped me into an interesting story that I couldn't put down. How am I supposed to write my own stories when I'm busy reading hers? LOL.
This book is so awesome, I don't know where to begin.
First, let me just say, I absolutely loved the characters. Lexi Austin is a celebrity chef and is the type of heroine who is the perfect combination of vulnerability and strength. I was in her corner the whole time. She seems so sweet, and I empathized with her from the beginning. Between the cheating ex and the lousy parents, I don't know how she managed to keep it all together and be the success she was.
Quentin Reddick is a successful attorney and sexy, charming, sexy, and sexy (yes, sexy 3 times). He's the perfect combination of alpha male with a dash of sensitivity. Ms. Smith is so good at writing men who show their vulnerable side without appearing weak. The intensity of Quentin's feelings for Lexi are part of what make him so attractive. But with his playboy ways, initially you'd think he was totally wrong for her, except he fell in love with her--and hard. The things he would say to her...
- "You mean everything to me," he growled huskily. "Don't you ever forget that."
- "Lex," he whispered raggedly. "I want you. Tell me what I have to do to have you."
- "I don't want you cooking for any other man. Do you understand me? Say you won't ever do that again."
I like how we got to see them joking around and spending time with each other. They'd been best friends for twenty years, and Ms. Smith adequately portrayed the level of comfort and familiarity two friends would have after all that time. Their nicknames, their secret code of knocking on the walls, having a key to each other's place, and she even took us back to the time when Lexi married another man and how much it crushed Quentin, though at the time he hadn't recognized he was in love with her.
Because of their relationship, their venture into lovers was especially dangerous. They risked losing the close friendship they'd had over the years. As usual, Ms. Smith did a good job of building up the sexual tension, and when they did get together, it was explosive.
This book includes characters from the Wolf series of books. If you haven't read them, you should, because when you read this one, it'll be like revisiting old friends. Asha still says whatever she thinks, Reese and Michael are expecting, and Marcus and Samara also make an appearance.

I read a short story by Maureen Smith last week. Now I've read five of her books. I couldn't put them down, no matter how much reading and writing I have to do for school. I blame her completely for my recent insomnia. You know it’s bad when you’re using eye drops at 330 am because you ‘only’ have 150 more pages.
Nothing is better than a friends-to-lovers story, especially when one of them is a chef! I wish they'd cooked more, and wish there were more appearances from their other friends, but I guess the book can't go on forever. I have to say the story and characters had unique elements to it that I'm not sure I should disclose... because you have to read it yourself.
Lexi has some pretty big trust hangups, and the author draws you to her character without making the book seem formulaic like most romances. I adored Quentin, who had made a brief appearance in Holiday Affair, the short story in Merry Sexy Christmas which started this obsession. I then looked forward to Lexi's story while I read the other Wolf Pack stories in order. I appreciated that they remained friends as they worked things out, and it was obvious these two had a 20-yr friendship history.
You know there are going to be problems, spats, or misunderstandings on the way to happily ever after, but the journey in this book is excellent and new. It bores me when something is overdone and super obvious, and Maureen doesn't treat her characters that way.
The intimacy was perfectly hot, but sex wasn’t the only thing that drew them together. I love the family looking on as their relationship changes, and Quentin’s soul-searching as he decides he wants Lexi and won’t accept no for an answer. I hated Lexi’s mother from her first scene, and this might be the first time I wasn’t bored with a bad parent character.
Quentin’s passion might make him my favorite of the Wolf Pack…but I still have to review Michael’s book, so we’ll see.

I liked this book but I think because I finished A Touch of Heaven the day before I'm still stuck on how I finished that book with a smile on my face. It kept my attention better than Recipe for Temptation. I think I have to leave that book alone for a while then try and read it only because I don't think I should follow a book like A Touch of Heaven.

that’s the way the new year should start

Loved the Story
Loved Quentin and Lexi. So happy to see them finally realize they belong together. It never fails the Dedicated Bachelor (Manwhore) is going to be the one to fall in Love the hardest.

This was my introduction to the Wolf clan, and I was not disappointed. The chemistry between Michael and Reese was through the roof. The author definitely knows how to write a good story.

OMG Quentin and Lexi's story was so awesome I don't have words. This is absolutely a MUST READ!! I rarely gush over a book, but I truly feel like gushing over this one!! Maybe its because I married my best friend too.
Quentin's feelings for Lexi were so strong, real and raw the leaped off the page and wrapped themselves around your heart. Its not often that you can actually feel all of the emotions in a story. Ms. Smith not only knocked out of the park with this story, but she sent it soaring through the universe.
Lexi was truly strong without even knowing how much strength she really had. Not many people could have endure the physical and emotional abuse she endured from her parents and still be sane.
I will be reading this one again really soon....as in next week.

This was difficult to rate. I just read Recipe for Temptation (great book by the way and you should check it out before you read this one)and would have given it five stars if I hadn't thought the ending was somewhat rushed. So, instead I gave RFT four stars. This book however was just as good, but I think what made this a different read was that Lexi and Quentin had a way more emotional than comical story. I like how Maureen Smith's stories are realistic and not overly sappy. And despite the more emotional toll that these characters went through, there were still some funny moments :).
I was going to give this a three star rating, but when we learned more about Lexi's background and/upbringing I upgraded my rating of this book. I really wish Goodreads had half stars, but oh well. I really not sure how I feel about this. Some parts I loved and other parts I was uncertain. Despite my feelings, Maureen Smith is a great writer and knows how to create sexy, funny, and emotional stories. Think I'm quickly becoming a fan.

I went through the full series synopsis and i like this book most, so rather than going sequence in series i picked this one..
I really like writer style the best part is her hero's and there way of telling heroine how much she mean (specially sensual hot style on love scenes ) to him..
Overall very well written and executed book and BBF convert in lover is always fav plot .. only unconvincing part is they took almost 20 yrs (a broken marriage) to understand their attraction which writer tried to explain ..but still my pov this fierce hot in hell kind of passion can't be bottled up 20 yrs.. so that's still i m not able to digest ..
Both hero/heroine is good and writer writes there pov well.. good read if u like hot alpha males which know what to say to make it burn ;)

The heat between Quentin and Lexi is off the charts! If you are in the mood for a well written book with lots of steamy chemistry, then Tempt Me at Midnight is the book for you. Lexi is reluctant to explore the feelings and chemistry between her and Quentin because of their long standing friendship (been friends since freshmen year in college). She doesn't want to lose her best friend if they don't work out as a couple; plus Quentin has a playboy reputation. Quentin wants to explore the chemistry; but he has to first wear Lexi down. One of the things I loved about this book was the fact that through everything, their friendship remained in tact. There was this one part though...but you'll have to read to see what I'm talking about.

This was a real tear jerker. Lexi and Quentin have been best friends for over twenty years. One night at a New Year's Party Lexi sneaks outside because she is feeling like a third wheel and is missing her best friend who couldn't make it to the party. At the stroke of midnight she is kissed by a masked stranger and it turns out to be the best kiss she's ever had. When she finds out it's Quentin she has a lot of mixed feelings. As the two explore a relationship, previous experiences conspire to interfere with their love.

Best friends indeed do make the perfect lovers. Lexi and Quentin loved each other for 20yrs and didn't even realize it. All it took was a steamy new years eve kiss to set everything in motion. Quentin was just so passionate and OMG that pantry love seen will knock your socks off! This is a wonderful addition to The Wolf Pack Series, and you get to catch up with a lot of the previous characters. Well done Maureen Smth!

I love a romance where best friends become lovers and soulmates. There just isn't anything better and I wanted to just cry when Lexi admitted she'd loved Quentin for years even though she never realized it at the time. There is just something about best friends coming together that is so hot and you could tell these two were meant to be together from page one and how deeply they loved each other, whether in the guise of friendship or as lovers. Loved Quentin and Lexi!

I absolutely LOVE this book!!! I brought it a couple of years ago and I continue to read it over and over....I love it when best friends becomes lovers. I like the relationship between Lexi and Quentin, they have a true friendship that makes their love life that much amazing. I just love this book!!!

Friends to lovers? Absolutely loved it! I didn't like Quentin in Recipe for Temptation. He came across as a sleazy player. But in Tempt Me at Night, he is revealed to be a strong, intelligent man determined to love and protect Lexi, the love of his life! Both Quentin and Lexi both had somewhat insurmountable issues but I'm so glad they decided to fight for their love. Awesome story!

I'm on a Maureen Smith roll........I have read this novel several times also and it keeps getting better and better. I just love how Quentin and Lexis realized the love they had for each other. Everyone should have the pleasure of reading The Wolf Pack Series, it would have you howling to the moon!

I absolutely loved this book, I actually wished it was longer and more detailed. Its a great read, and the characters are so in love, but there's loads of trust issues and the relationship between Lexi and her Mom, was too much for me to read. It brought my joy down and it didn't go back up!
I felt the whole moment before the HEA was a bit extra but it's a good read.
