"I will ask you this. When you're safe again, when you find summer, pluck the first rose you see. And think of me. I will know, and be content."

"Winter Rose" is the story of Deirdre and Kyler.

This beautiful love story is a magical tale of love and freedom between Kylar, prince of Mrydon and Deirdre, queen of the Sea of Ice. Our H is mortally wounded in a battle, but unexpectedly survives and finds himself in Rose Castle, on the Isle of Winter in the Sea of Ice; a mystical land whose existence is questionable. There he meets his savior, the queen and instantly finds himself attracted to the seemingly cold but very warm woman.
The h has closed off her heart due to her tragic past, and now lives imprisoned by fate, saving the life of her subjects while waiting for it all to end. When a stranger breaks through the magic, she never expects her heart to respond- but pushes him away. But he will defy destiny, and make her his..

Angsty, sweet and heartbreaking at the same time. It reminded me of "Deep Kiss of Winter" from IAD, though this was written earlier and is SO much better. One extra star for the H gifting the h a puppy. That shiz made me cry *happy squeals*

This book would definitely win the prize for the lamest conversations (especially in the end - almost wanted to give up on reading), but I give extra credits for a self-sufficient main female character.

My wife and I drove down from Kansas City to the Lodge at Mt. Magazine State Park in Arkansas today. I picked up two audiobooks for the trip. I'm familiar with the quality of Nora Roberts' work, and thought this would be a typical romance story. It is a romance story, but not typical.

As we started listening, I wondered if we had switched CD's and had the Louis L'Amour western I also checked out in the player by mistake - we were listening to the thoughts of a warrior gravely injured, barely conscious, bleeding and plodding through deep snow on his horse. But this turned out to be Prince Kyler, who stumbles through a forest into an icy land he's never seen before. He is rescued barely alive and taken to a warm abode where he later comes to, being cared for by a young woman plainly dressed. So far there was nothing too unusual.

But we find that we are in a kingdom of legend, in which a spell has been cast relegating the people and their Queen to a cold, dull, colorless life of mere survival. Young Queen Diedre is the woman tending to our injured war hero, Prince Kyler. She has magic of her own which makes her the great healer of her people. She applies those supernatural skills to Kyler's wounded body and helps him recover. However her power alone is not sufficient to break the curse and lead her kingdom to happier days. That would require the love of a special man ...

An enjoyable novelization of a fairytale. I think this is one novel that is better heard than read.

3.5 ⭐️ Winter Rose is a short paranormal story about a cursed land where a queen and her people are hidden from the outside world. They live in an endless winter until she saves and fall in love with a prince from the outside. It’s a solid story for a novella.

The story is all about breaking the curse, so that they can enjoy sunlight and summer after many years without having it. This story is a light read but there’s the wholesomeness that will make you remember your very first kiss and everything. Truly magical, and i love that. 💕

Almost 4 stars.

I quite enjoyed this one, probably because of its fairy-tale tones.

Our heroine is trapped with her people in permanent winter because of her vindictive aunt's curse (her father seduced twin sisters but her mother got pregnant and the grandfather, the king, decreed that he marry her mother).

Our warrior Prince hero somehow stumbled upon her queendom after being severely wounded defending his lands and our heroine magically healed him. They fell in love whilst he's recovering and she let him leave even though she knew the chances of him coming back are slim. But of course, true love conquers all and the curse is lifted...

I liked that it's not like the insta-love we had in the previous "Once Upon" novellas and that there's character development for such a short story. The narrator Coleen Marlo did a good job too.

First there was love in the realm, then there was heartbreak and a lot of pain, and it led to a huge curse and for a long time all they know was a never ending Winter.
A short story that resembles a fairytale, which follows the believe that true love can heal everything when people take a chance. I loved the main characters and the touch of magic. It's a lovely story, I recommend :)

This book was interesting but not up to what I've come to expect from a Nora Roberts' story. To me, the story needed a bit more "fleshing out". Deirdre had a story but not much was shared of it; the same with her love interest, Kyle. I enjoyed it but lacked the polish I've come to enjoy.

This is a beautiful story that feels very much like a long lost fairy tale. I loved Dierdre so much. She was such an interesting character. And the whole story of her aunt's curse and being trapped in an eternal winter was just perfect. I really loved all of that.

Where the story fell flat for me was the actual relationship between the MCs. There just didn't seem to be much there. They met and BOOM they're totally in love. I think the problem may be that Kyler isn't a very fleshed out character. He's just there. A random stand-in hero. This is very much Dierdre

Downloaded from my public library, on a cold, snowy Chicago winter's day, (and unable to put down throughout the evening) this was a wonderful book. Although it was written a while ago, it is not outdated. We could all use some magic. Lovely fairy tale with a fabulous ending.

As a stand alone book this doesn't cut it. Maybe if I'd read the first three novels, I would have enjoyed it more.

A refreshingly delightful and well-balanced fantasy tale that, without the usual excessive emphasis on sex is pure magick.

I've read this short fantasy story in Italian, titled 'Rosa d'inverno'.
Here is my review in Italian.
___________

Deirdre is queen of an isolated castle that has been cursed with perpetual winter and cut off from the rest of the world. When Prince Kylar wanders into the kingdom injured, Deirdre nurses him back to health. While healing, the two fall in love. But Kylar has responsibilities and must go home and Deirdre cannot and will not abandon her people. So how can they be together? Well, this was a pretty nice little fairytale. The characters were nice, with a bit of stubbornness that keeps them apart and this added that perfect touch of angst. The romance itself was sweet, typically Nora Roberts. Overall, a nice story.

Winter Rose is a slight take on the Beauty and the Beast theme, except the princess is not a beast, she just does not have the capacity to love after being cursed by an evil aunt. Prince Kyle stumbles into her kingdom which is forever encased in snow. I think I liked this one better than Ever After. I bought into the fairy tale and I do love a good fairy tale. I think that this one could have made a good longer book had there been more background about Kyle. I always want more with novellas. This one is also 3 discs, so it is a very quick listen. Try it out!
