Many of the tapestries are famous but most of the textile collection is little known. Because textiles are displayed throughout the Museum, and certain fine pieces have been placed in storage to preserve them, it has been almost impossible for the visitor or visiting scholar toe survey the collection until the appearance of this catalogue.
