Fasting for Financial Breakthrough: A Guide to Uncovering God's Perfect Plan for Your Finances

Rate this book
Shed a spiritual light on one of the biggest problems facing people today, the need to put the role of money in a proper perspective and how to solve our money problems. Elmer Towns states at the outset that this is not the primary purpose of fasting and prayer. Instead, it is all about knowing God. It is not about withdrawing prayer on an as needed basis from some spiritual ATM kiosk. It is about meditation, studying the scriptures and communion with God. When we fast and pray in faith, asking for God’s help and provision, He begins to teach us how to become good stewards of what He has provided. Includes chapters devoted to topics like Fasting to Learn Stewardship, Why We Have Money Problems, Faith Approach to Asking for Money and many more. Once you understand why we you money problems you can do something about it with this practical step by step guide.

A Book on Fasting Principles, Lessons, and Strategies to Enhance Prayer
This is one of those unusual books in that it covers an issue that is popular among Faith teachers, Pentecostal and Charismatic preachers, and the proponents of the Prosperity Gospel--contending in faith for financial blessings--except this is written by a Baptist educator, Elmer L. Towns, of Liberty University. This is important because the topic is both Biblical and legitimate but has come to be linked to excesses in the Faith and Prosperity movements, i.e. all those TV Evangelists with their strong money appeals. And truthfully, if you read this without knowing anything about the author you might think he was among their number. But the truth is, God does want to provide for all of our needs. That is Biblical. And it was Jesus who first preached, "Give and it shall be given unto you!" But the balance comes from context, and the Bible doesn't promise material wealth. It promises to have our needs met. In fact, Jesus also taught that "with the same measure you give, it shall be given unto you." And nothing in the New Testament is free without sacrifice. Even God's grace is dependent on Christ's sacrifice and every believer is required to "make their life a living sacrifice" and to practice self-denial to be a true disciple.
Elmer Towns nails it here by teaching exactly what the Bible tells us about fasting, praying, and believing God to meet our needs. This is actually a book on fasting. It was written as a companion book to one of Towns' earlier books on the subject of fasting. The difference here is the context of fasting to have financial needs met. Within this book are tips on fasting, steps and lesson points to reinforce each chapter's teaching, and lots of anecdotes from Mr. Towns substantial experience in Christian ministry and education. It's a short read at 88 pages but there is a lot of punch packed into those pages. There is also some pretty good advice about Christian financial planning although that is not the aim of this book in anyway. Prayer, however, is!
I highly recommend this book to serious Christians who want to learn more about prayer, fasting, faith, and finances. New converts should read this and put it into practice its principles so they can begin to grow in prayer and trusting God for every need. This book is not only HIGHLY RECOMMENDED but a solid believer would buy extra copies for people they love whom they want to see blessed and provided for by our LORD Jesus. By all means, get your hands on this useful, blessed book and let everyone know: Prayer and fasting works!
