If only he'd get out of her fantasies. Maybe if she keeps things simple, she can allow herself one naughty indulgence. After all, who will know?
Pull The String... Elliott sees through Brooke's stiff facade. Underneath her struggle to hold it all together, a vibrant, wanton woman is waiting to be freed. To win her heart, he'll play by her rules, which would be a a lot easier if her hostile best friend didn't fight so dirty. Sure, he has ammo of his own, but what he knows could hurt Brooke.
Steady. Aim. Release... Millie Match isn't sure what she did to deserve this matchmaking hell. The sneaking around, the spying, compatibility issues, chemistry crises. Her target, Brooke, is keeping secrets. Elliott is definitely Mr. Wrong. And if Millie doesn't make true love magic now, she'll lose the one thing in this punishment worth fighting for.

Finally! A romance novel with a real woman! A woman that isn't twentysomething! A younger guy! A really stupid...yet lovable cupid!
It only took a few pages to know that this was going to be a fun book.
Brooke is falling for a much younger man who happens to be one of her college professors teaching assistants. The whole younger man thing kind of freaks her out too , especially after ending her marriage to Jason. (Oh and Jason has some secrets of his own)
Then there's Millicent and AJ. Millie is Brooke's BFF that's just a little too well meaning. She is trying to work some cupid magic on her friend, but she's getting it all wrong. Very early on, you want to scream at her to butt out, but that's what makes things so fun.
But this is more than just a cute good time romance. Amber has created some very real characters, that have real problems. Brooke is trying to get a new business off the ground, and she finds herself attracted to a much younger man. It doesn't help matters that her ex is a not quite what he seems, and most of her friends and family seem to think she's a fool.
I really loved the characters, and how real they were. This was the first book of Amber's that I've read, but it won't be my last.
Play Fling was a delightful read. It was fun, sassy and sexy. :) The story evolved around 3 main characters: Brooke, Elliot and Millie. Brooke is divorced and tries to build her life from scratch after ending her relationship for 15 years. Millie is Brooke's best friend and her complete opposite. Elliot on the other hand is the young hottie that will try to capture Brooke's attention. The novel is funny and it has it's steamy moments which I might add are written beautifully by Scott.
The characters are so believable it makes the novel so intense. There are moments that you'll just laugh your heart out and times when you feel so sad with the story. This is what I like about a book, it's not only about the boy-meet-girl angle but it also contains some elements that separates the book from the other novels out there. For this novel, it wasn't just aiming to be romantic but also comedic. The plot itself is realistic that I often sympathize with the character and the story, minus the cupid thing. :)) I am not much of a romantic novel fan, but Play Fling was worth reading.
I would like a different ending though. I just felt the later part of the story was rushed. I am definitely looking forward to more Millie and hoping that she will mature in the future. This is my first Amber Scott novel and I definitely love her writing style. Would definitely read her future novels.
I didn't know what the book was about before I read it other than that it was a romance, so I didn't know it was a series and that character of Millie would be recurring (and was a cupid).
For what I believe is the first book in the series, Millie wasn't set up properly so we fully understand what she is, why she is a cupid and what got her there. Big draw back. I also found her totoally unlikeable. At no point did I find this a laugh riot. I can't recall laughing once.
I found Mrs. Munkle's verbal reaction to her son's news a little disconcerting and we get mixed messages about how great a mom she is by Brooke then Brooke calling her terribly passive aggressive.
I did like the two main characters, Brooke and Elliott, and the romance between them, but not enough to recommend this to any one.
I finished reading Play Fling at 4:30 am and HAD to right my review now. I literally finished the book with a grin and a warm fuzzy feeling. This book has flirting, love, passion, hotness, betrayal, friendship, jealousy, manipulation, reconciliation, you name it. This was a satisfying read that made me want to hug and kiss my husband thinking of when we met and our romance.
My favorite line in this book is, “All men should give books instead of flowers.” Oh, yes. This male love interest has some unique moves up his sleeve. This meet cute was one of the most original and very cool ways to strike up a conversation that I have ever read. The main male character, Elliott, is a twenty-something teaching assistant at the local college that the main female character, Brooke, is attending. Brooke isn’t a typical student, but is taking the class to help her business. She is a thirty-something, divorced for one year, attractive woman trying to live life with freedom from a stale marriage and a new business adventure. Her best friend Millie is the one person who has stayed by her side since the divorce. Brooke met her within the last year and with losing all her other friends in the divorce, has grown to trust and love Millie like a sister. The overall theme is finding love, and the story that unfolds is unique and satisfying. I do believe I did some emotional sighing while reading.
What I love about this book is all the connections and near miss disasters the characters and the plot takes. There are twists throughout the book that make you want to rush ahead, skim across paragraphs, just to get to the resolution faster. I invested in these characters and couldn’t put the book down until I knew exactly how these twists would play out. I wasn’t disappointed, but I sure had a lot of anxiety along the way. The attraction between Brooke and Elliott is so well written, I felt like I was falling in love with him. My feelings of like, annoyance, wanting to shake Millie were all tied up in there too. The revelations of the minor characters kept the story flowing and everyone interconnected in a bizarre, but good way. It was easy to keep the ensemble of characters straight with how the author wrote their individual parts to play in the plot. This book has a bit of everything for everyone who likes romance, with just a splash of supernatural, but mostly contemporary.
I really don’t like to give too much away of a book, especially specifics. When there is a book like this, I want the reader to experience the twists and revelations just like I did. So, I will give you a small sample of a little scene at an old man’s yard sale, him talking to Elliott about a little silver box he had given his deceased wife on her twenty-first birthday:
“Found it in some old shop down in Kanab, Utah. I knew she’d like it, Tiffany or not.”
“I’ll bet she did. It’s beautiful.” Elliott turned the silver box with care. He lifted the lid. Closed it.
“Oh, yes, she loved that thing. I’d like to give it someone if they’d enjoy it like she did.”
“What did she keep in it?”
“Candy. Chocolates, mostly. She was a real nut for sweets. Had them stashed all over the house. This one was by the bed. I’d hear her hand scratching around the table in the middle of the night digging for something sweet.”
Elliott chuckled along with the man. “That story makes it even better. I think I know someone who would really love this. How much can I give you for it?”
The old man put up his hands. “Not a penny. It’s yours if you want it.”
“Oh, I can’t do that. Please, let me give you at least what you paid.”
“Nope. You’re money isn’t good here. Knowing someone will get a little bit of happiness from it like Opal did. That’s payment enough for me. Opal would have wanted it that way.”
Doesn’t that just melt your heart? There’s more to it, of course, and another element going on while this discussion takes place that just makes this conversation all the more sweeter, but THIS is just a small side story. It’s not even the big stuff!
Play Fling is a sweet novel with love at the core, deep passion, feelings of hope, and anything is possible kind of read. It appears this is the first book in a series concerning Millicent Match, the best friend. Love, relationships, and …misunderstandings seem to follower her around I think. You will need to read this book to find out why. I wasn’t expecting the Millie twist, but it does add a nice element to the drama. The sequel is called The Sweetest Fling.
For those of you that know me... and those that don't this is my little statement about short books.... I do not judge short stories on the rush of their relationships, because they are just that - short stories. So, yes the relationships always could have been drawn out more, yea it seems like they fall in love to fast and of course the story could have been made longer... but it is a short story. So with that said.... here is my review...
Do you believe in love at first sight? What about lust at first sight? Do you believe in Valentine's day being all about love and finding the right one? Speaking of Valentine's Day.... Do you believe that love has a helping hand from Cupid? We believe in angels... what about Cupids?
Cupid-shumpid... Brooke is a very logical person. Thinks everything through and then thinks some more. At thirty nine years old, life had dealt her a marriage of fifteen years that slowly dwindled away. Divorced for under a year, Brooke is trying to regain her life back. A life she never had. A life of independence. A life of love was not on her agenda.
I like Brooke's character. She is a very down to earth woman, getting over her divorce, starting up her own business and going back to school to learn more about her business. Those things are really admirable of a woman in today's world. Also, she kinds reminds me of "real" people I know My heart goes to her because after the divorce people who she considered her friends... kinda left her. Until she met Millie....
Millie, Millicent (aka Kiki Kent), has a job to do. She has to make a love match for Brooke in order to move on to the next job assignment. Exactly what is Millie, she is cupid. She has seven matches to make in order to go back to her life, the life of Kiki Kent. She was given an assistance of sorts, A.J. A man she would love nothing to do but have her way with... But it is against the rules and rules is something Millie is not good at. Wanting what she wants is Kiki's, I mean Millie's first rule. Or that was her first way of thinking....
Millie is a hard pill to sallow. She comes on the scene as Brooke's best friend... although the things that Brooke tells us about her, leaves me wondering how much of a best friend she really is. Missing dinner dates, being late for the movies... hell even not showing up or calling when Brooke was counting on her the most ~ to read her paper for class. Then... as the story progresses, Millie really has a mind of her own. Not thinking of what was best for Brooke or even what Brooke wanted. She kinda irked me because most of her thinking was all centered around herself. Until A.J. would put in his two cents and center her to what her job was at hand... Brooke.
This is Millie's thoughts..... "No wonder she still wore all seven gold bands. Love just wasn’t her drink of choice. Give her a shot of like any day. Lust on the rocks."
This is a great love story. To see love triumph over all, no matter who it is for is always a great thing. Brooke is a woman cut from today's cloth. She is concerned for her career just as much as she is concerned about her heart. You really want to see her fall in love with the right man... But can Millie do her job.... Even though I had my struggle with Millie, in the end, she does her job. If you were ever curious how Cupid really works, this is truly a great story. Or should I say this will be a great series!!!! And I have contacted Ms. Amber and there are more stories!!!
This is a new to me author and she is on my radar! I can not wait to read the next one... I am very interested to see if Millie can manage to get rid of all seven bracelets... and what will be come of her and A.J.!!!
My Review: This book is one that I had a hard time rating because I really could not stand one character in it...Millie, the chick who is actually playing Cupid as punishment. The issue is that I don't think that you are supposed to like her yet....her punishment for living an unfulfilled life is that she has to find love for 7 people. Brooke is her first assignment out of those seven, which I am assuming means that this series is going to be 7 books long. I am also assuming that means that Millie is going to have a long character arc where she develops a more likable persona...at least that is my hope. BUT that did not keep her character from completely grating on my nerves with her choices in this book...and Millie is in a LOT of the book. See my dilemna??
But I did like the romantic story between Brooke & Elliott...honestly, I am a sucker for a romance set on a university campus, so this book already had a major plus in it's favor. I also like that there is a big age difference between the two with Brooke being the older and the fact that Elliott is the one to fall first. There is just something innately sexy about that dynamic to me. Brooke is a 30 something divorcee finding herself again after the end of her 15 year marriage. She has started her own business that is going very well and has gone back to college simply for the experience that it will add to her life and business. She doesn't want a degree...she wants the knowledge. Elliott has been watching her every week on her weekly jaunts to the bookstore and makes his move by buying her the pile of books that she was lusting over one day. I LOVE this part of this book. OMG! Is that not the most romantic thing? He didn't buy her flowers or candy...he bought her books!! I adore that!
The issue in the story is that Millie is playing Cupid for Brooke and Millie can't see Elliott as a good match for Brooke. She thinks that he will only lead to heartache because he is in his mid-20's and too young for her. Instead, Millie is trying to set Brooke back up with her ex-husband...NOT a good thing. Millie is shallow and tends not to listen or pay attention to the clues that are around her until it is MUCH TOO LATE. She is so caught up in herself and her own agenda that she is missing huge clues as to what she should be doing. Helping her in her journey is AJ and she has a HUGE crush on him. I look forward to where their aspect of the story goes as we move through the series. I really liked his character although I have a feeling that he knows more about things than he is letting on to Millie. I have a feeling that we are going to see some surprises come in the series from AJ's character.
Overall this was a good book, so the question is...do I rate it lower because of one character that honestly is supposed to be that completely annoying? I honestly don't think that I can. When I started this review, I had this book rated as a B-, but I am changing it to a B+. I completely enjoyed Elliott and Brooke's love story and even with my annoyances with Millie, I look forward to seeing where this series goes in the future...especially for her and AJ.
Brooke Munkle is 37 years old, newly divorced and has returned to her studies. She still hopes to find the love of her life following an unhappy marriage of fifteen years. But when handsome, flirty and sweet Elliot Jovovich who is more than ten years her junior stumbles into her path she gets into a fluster. A younger man who creates an intense physical reaction was not quite what she had in mind when she intended to start her life over. Elliot is persistent and loveable, whom I imagined with big puppy dog eyes, following Brooke around until she succumbed to his charm, which she eventually does. What starts as a physical attraction develops into more and both fight their true feelings for each other because of the marked age gap.
Play Fling is a contemporary romance novel by indie author, Amber Scott who writes across various genres. I picked up a copy during an indie blowout sale at just 0.99c and it has sat on my kindle for well over a year. I was looking for something light and fun to read and thought I’d give it a go. I tend to have mixed feelings about Play Fling.
I did like the premise and I was intrigued by how the author would approach the couple’s age gap. What I liked was how she completely turned around the power imbalance by having Elliot as a teacher’s assistant and in charge of marking her papers. So, initially I leaned towards Brooke having a bit more control in the relationship because of her age, but then the teacher-student roles kind of balanced it out. Elliot was a likeable character and Brooke who was a little more defended was also well fleshed out as a conflicted character.
However, there was another side story with Brooke’s friend Millie and her partner AJ. She’s apparently a cupid or match-maker of some sort and determined to reunite Brooke with her ex-husband despite Brooke’s obvious attraction to Elliot and clear lack of feelings for her ex. I really don’t think this sub-plot added any substance to the story and I actually found it a bit annoying. I thought Millie was self-centred and I found myself rushing through her point of view.
The other issue I had with the story was the drawn-out internal monologues telling the reader about the characters conflict. It mostly happened with Brooke, but also with Elliot and Millie. There was often page after page of this internal conflict which could have been shown in just a few sentences or through the character’s interactions. I actually think if some of that had been cut out then this story would have worked quite well as a short and sweet novella.
The ending was a little rushed and though I enjoyed Elliot and Brooke’s affair I was surprised when they got to the ‘love’ stage because I couldn’t really see how the leap had been made after just a few nights together.
Despite some of the issues I had with the story, Play Fling is a light and sweet story that takes an interesting approach towards a relationship where the heroine is ten years older than the hero.
It is very rare that I don't actually finish a book I've started (much less write a review about said book), but I just can't get through this one. Looking back now, I honestly don't know what drew me to this one in the first place, since it's been sitting on my Kindle for weeks (months?) waiting to be read. It looks like, once again, I fell victim to the irresistible allure of a cheap ebook. One of these days I'll learn my lesson.
Problem #1: The Characters While the main characters, Brooke and Elliot, weren't exactly annoying, they didn't really draw me in. There just wasn't anything especially likable about them. Millie, on the other hand, downright frustrated me. The name STUPID Cupid certainly fit. While I was able to understand the basics of her situation, it wasn't explained all that clearly (she's a cupid but doesn't want to be and somehow has the ability to get back to who she used to be if she completes a certain number of matches -- talk about confusing!) and she didn't really seem to have her heart in the game. She had her own agenda and didn't even really seem to care about the "friend" she's there to help.
Problem #2: The Relationship I probably should have figured it out from the title, but the "relationship" between the two main characters just felt like one big booty call. Sadly, (though not too sadly) I'll never see the resolution to their little "romance" because I can't actually finish the book. While Elliot seemed to be genuinely attracted to Brooke, he didn't really know her before he started wooing her, and all Brooke seems to see is a hot young guy. This book reminds me why I don't read romance novels. I just don't think that explicit descriptions of a couple having sex is necessary or appropriate. I wish novels had ratings like movies do.
Problem #3: The Editing I'm not sure if it was an ebook issue or just editing in general, but there was nothing to denote that we were suddenly switching points of view. In one paragraph, we're hearing from Brooke's point of view, then we're hearing from Elliot's (which was especially confusing if the point of view switch happened during the same scene).
Problem #4: The Plot The story didn't seem to be going anywhere by the time I stopped reading. This type of thing might be commonplace in romance novels and soap operas, but I'm not a fan of either, so it didn't hook me.
While I can say that I gave it a valiant attempt (about 56% of the way through, according to my Kindle), I just couldn't justify giving up any more of my time to finish reading this book.
My Review: PLAY FLING tells the story of two couples: Millie and AJ, and Brooke and Elliot. While it might seem like the relationship that develops between the latter is the main part of the novel, Millie and AJ's contribution is just as important. Neither love story takes over the plot line, so the reader is treated to two very different point of views.
First, there is Brooke, who finds herself attracted to a much younger man, and the student assistant of one of her professors. Amber Scott skillfully shows a successful woman, who can still be vulnerable and unsure when it comes to men. Especially one that might make her look like a "cougar". She throws in the break-up of Brooke's marriage over seeming "drifting apart" and inattentiveness to further show the woman's reluctant attitude toward finding love again.
Then there is Millie. Millie, who seems normal at first. Perhaps she is a little flaky, and from the first chapter, even seems somewhat selfish. But, it becomes apparent that she thinks keeping Elliott away from Brooke is in the other woman's best interest, and the only way for Millie herself, to save the relationship that she has with AJ.
There were a few times while I was reading, that I wanted Millie to butt out of her supposed friend's life. As the reader, I could see that Elliott could be a good match for Brooke. It becomes apparently clear that Jason and Brooke's relationship is dead, and should not be resurrected, and yet, Millie keeps trying to push them together. But, at the same time, her character did remind me of the well-meaning, but a little dense when it comes to other people's love lives friend, that most women have, or have encountered in their lifetime.
I enjoyed Scott's style of writing, and the story that she had to tell. However, PLAY FLING is not as light-hearted and fluffy as the cover art might lead one to think. This is not a beach read type of book. It's one that really delved into the psyche of Brooke, an "older" woman, and showed a true journey from first lust to deeper commitment.
3.5/5 for plot 3.5/5 for characters 3.5/5 for language
My Rating: 10.5/15 (3 stars)

This book was brought to my attention through the Tour De Troops Blog Tour ebook promotion raising awareness to send ebooks to the troops overseas. Commenting on blogs by various ebook authors that interested you would get you access to free ebooks as selected by the participants. I knew Amber Scott by reputation from other friends, though I hadn't read any of her work yet, so I started with this as my first read of a full ebook on my iPad.
While I have read or watched things that have paranormal elements (BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER comes to mind for TV, but I can't think of a strong book example offhand), it is not what I normally read. I've read a couple of books considered romance before, but they were Christian romance and this is erotic romance - the latter being completely uncharted territory for me. While not offended by it, it is not the element that makes or breaks the story for me, and I will be honest I skimmed those scenes.
Why you asked? Because I cared what would happen next to two of the three main characters - Brooke and Elliott. I didn't have enough backstory to care for Millie, who this supposedly kicks off a series about. I understand that material is available elsewhere, but I needed a little more hint of that early on to understand why I should feel for her. I can't say more without spoilers but she didn't provide enough to care about what happens to her - whether a character is good, bad, whatever I need enough to grab onto in order to understand motivation. That said, I did want to follow Brooke and Elliott to the end because they were strong characters in complicated situations I cared about. The climax and ending seemed too rushed and a letdown, but this may have been due to a dependency on the erotic elements I have already admitted skimming and therefore my own connection issues as a reader. If you're into these kind of stories you'll probably like it
This plot is so sweet. I was happy to see Brooke set her sight on a younger man. It gives me hope in case my husband trades me in for a newer model. And Elliott is head over for her too. When Amber Scott was on, she was ON!! It was sporadic, though. Sometimes it was like pulling teeth to get to the next page and then I'd be so engaged I lost track of time. I loved the character description. You got a sense of who and what they were. Loved the interaction between Brooke and Elliot. When they got together I could actually see sparks fly on my Kindle. The comedy was genius, new spin on old stuff, I throughly enjoyed it. I really like Elliot. I wanted to be his friend. He's a good guy with a good heart, and he truly overlooks Brooke main insecurity, her age. I can hear Aaliyah sing now, 'Age ain't nothin' but a number.' True True!
I did NOT enjoy Millie. I wanted her to take a long walk off a short pier. She drove me crazy with the I-know-better-than-you shtick. I tend to lean more towards free will, as opposed to the fate, so I was not surprised by my reaction. Millie took her job way to seriously. I hope she puts her big girl panties on an makes a play for AJ, cause she seriously needs to get laid.
Overall, the book unnecessarily long, too many tangents, but it all came together well at the end. The characters were great, the interaction was awesome, and the comedy was fabulous! For the cost it was a good read. I will read more from Amber Scott, I hear her paranormal is really good. I got Love Lust from a Valentines Day special offered by Best Seller for a Day special and it's high on my TBR list!
Play Fling by Amber Scott is funny, steamy, sexy and Millie can be quite irritating at times. The chemistry between Brooke and Elliot from the beginning is electric, from the very first time they meet.
AJ and Millie can be funny together. Don't know how Brooke puts up with Millie. She's always late to their meetings and finally stands her up. That's when Brooke meets Elliot. Don't know how Brooke doesn't just strangle Millie after she basically calls her old to her face, after Millie realizes what's going on between Elliot and Brooke. Millie makes such a big deal out of the age deference between them. She makes it seem like Brooke is old enough to be Elliot's mother. Sure Brooke's a cougar but the age deference isn't twenty years. It's more like ten years.
What happens along the way is funny. It's nice to see Brooke come out of her shell. Millie's meddling in Brooke's life as Cupid can make you want to strangle her at times. She means well but she just can't get over the age difference and tries to get Brooke and her ex-husband Jason back together. Millie doesn't see what's in front of her when Brooke, Elliot, Elliot's cousin Gordon and Jason all bump into each other in the mall. She's just busy trying to match Jason and Brooke because they were once married and thinks they are still in love.
Loved the story, especially how it all comes together. Highly recommend it.
First I have to confess I almost never read contemporary romances. In fact I got this prejudice that contemporary romances are boring. But having read Scott's novella 'The Best Revenge' which was a great read and hearing about the unusual concept in 'Play Fling' of a cupid trying to match two people, I was eager to try it.
And let me tell you: It is a delightful read and makes me reconsider my policy of staying away from contemporary romances. Scott's writing style is best described as vibrant. The characters in Play Fling feel alive and most are likeable even when some of them are clearly making the wrong choices. Miss (Millie) Match does her name proud: her matchmaking attempts lead to some weird and funny situations, but as it is a romance you do not have to fear the outcome ofcourse. All in all I loved this book and I will most certainly read the next Millie book once it's released.
I really enjoyed this book. I'd describe it as 'a serious screwball romantic comedy'. There's a lot of mix up and mistaken assumptions that bar the path to true love for the characters...hence the screwball comedy aspect.
But its got a depth of emotion to it that makes it 'serious' than the usual idea of a screwball set up.
The characters are intriguing, the main romance characters have definite heat between them (she describes the nuances of mutual attraction very very well), and their reasons for getting cold feet are very realistic.
The 'matchmaker' Millie is probably my favourite character. I found she reminded me of Jane Austen's Emma in that I both liked/disliked her and, like Emma, she's a bit self-absorbed and unable to see past her own prejudices to the truth that's going on around her, and also in her own heart. But of course she does make important realization as part of her growth by the end of the book.
Play Fling is yet another book by Amber Scott that was a pleasure to read. The emotional intensity I expect in a romance took me on a roller coaster ride with the main characters: Brooke, Elliot and Millie. Told from all three point of views, Amber Scott managed to switch between each of them seamlessly, keeping their voices distinct. I got to know all three characters through their words and actions, and especially their internal thoughts.
The story flowed at a great pace, slowing as expected during intimate moments and speeding up at other times to prevent any sagging.
I absolutely loved Play Fling and recommend it to every romance reader. I will definitely read more books by Amber Scott and look forward to the rest of the Millicent Match series.
This book was a fun, silly, tongue-in-cheek, SEXY read. I've never wanted to be a cougar so much in my life. I'm not an avid paranormal reader. It has to be a particularly good para in order to suck me in. And this one was perfect. The stupid cupid series has sucked me in, and I will more than likely buy every book in the series. The sex scenes in this book were hot, but not over the top. The character of Brooke was very relatable. At 35, I tend to think I am officially out of the game, and (though I am happily married) it is nice to know that some younger men really dig women with a little milage. Highly recommend...hope you all get a kick out of this book like I did!
I really enjoyed the story, characters, and humor but there were too many things that could be easily fixed for me to sink my teeth into this and devour it the way I could have. No warning when jumping POV's on the electronic version so one paragraph he's in an office the next she's in a classroom. Funny but needed some tightening. I'm very careful when I say this because as a writer I know mistakes are easy to make and hard to find so I try to let a lot slide and not notice when I review but this was consistent throughout the entire story and was really a distraction. It was a very quick read, only a couple of hours.
Play Fling & Sweetest Fling by Amber Scott are part of the Stupid Cupid series which is funny and romantic with a little kick to it. I extremely enjoyed Millie's matchmaking skills, especially when everything she plans goes wrong. The combination of Millie and Aj the cupid supervisor, is just perfect especially the chemistry they have together. Its wonderful to find your soulmate but it can be disastrous apparently at the being. Thankfully if you have a cupid wiling to do anything for love the results will be great. The questionable tactics, the quirky remarks and the true love stories will keep you from putting the book down.
What I loved about this story was the emotion...okay, and the sex. There was great passion in there! Scott pens a wonderful tale about a (not-so-old-IMO) woman trying to find herself after a divorce. Rather than using trite, already done devices, Scott puts a fresh and unique twist on this that I enjoyed very much. Pairing her heroine Brooke with the younger, atypical stud-of-a-hero, she takes us on a journey filled with angst, passion, fun (nd a host of delightful characters!Play Fling
The story was a good idea, just don't think it was executed properly. I got the Kindle edition, and the little story "Just Desserts" was included in the end. This would have made a great prologue to set up Millie’s character.
The editing was a little off. I don't expect perfect editing, but during a chapter, there was no indication of when the voice was changing. One paragraph it was Millie, the next someone else.
I liked the second in this series better (accidently read it first) because there wasn't as much of Millie's character in it.
It's been a while since I've read a romance but I'm so glad I picked up Play Fling. I really enjoyed the younger man, older woman romance and the well-intentioned but bumbling cupid character, Millie. The sex scenes were very steamy but tastefully done and not over the top. I can't wait to read more about Millie in future stories and I'll definitely be looking for more Amber Scott novels to read.
The story was fine. The formatting was fine. The writing, though was definitely not tight... page after page of introspection and internal dialogue, much of it redundant. Felt like the book needed a good edit to pare it down, keep the story without losing the reader during all the unending internal conflict.
I want a MILLIE! She's hilarious and I love how she gets everything wrong!
This book was my first Amber Scott experience. I put down Fierce Dawn to read this because I was in a romance kind of mood. It was a hard choice because Fierce Dawn is good too.
Play Fling is funny, romantic, and sexy! Exactly what I expected after following Amber on Twitter and Facebook. I couldn't put it down.
Great heroine, not a young twenty something who fell in love at first sight, a mature thirty something and divorced. Brooke and Elliot are great together with Millie creating problems left and right. Stupid cupid is aptly named. Fun and sexy story that will leave you laughing, crying and asking for more.
Intriguing story of a reluctant cupid and her skittish assignment - I really liked this book, and when I had to put it down I couldn't wait to get back to it. Well-written, great story, and the characters are very believable and endearing. Great read - I'll be looking for more from this author.
I had some trouble keeping all the characters straight in the beginning and felt like I wasn't given enough information about Millie/KiKi. I also felt like the author left the ending hanging as far as some of the characters. Overall it was a good easy read.
This was a fun read. I am not sure why I had not read it before. I thought I had read all of Amber's books already, some of them more than once. I loved watching the walking catastrophe that is Millie.
Cute, but the characters got on my nerves a bit. I wanted to throttle Millie, the Cupid. I would have enjoyed it more if Millie weren't such an obvious way to prolong/drag out the plot. I just couldn't see things ending up the way they did after her actions.
