I read this collection of essays back in college and don't remember any of the papers standing out to me. I'm only listing it for context in case abstract-you is interested in this topic. We read it in a cluster with Paul Fussell, Joanna Burke, Sandra Gilbert, and Virginia Woolf (Three Guineas).

I *think* I remember that Bourke sees less rupture between Victorian and Modern than Fussell does, and disagrees with Gilbert's view of the war as Battle of the Sexes.

These author are all focused on Britain, btw.

Informative & thought-provoking about war's impact on women and men. Not optimistic, though.
