Discworld Maps
The Streets of Ankh-Morpork
Ankh-Morpork! City of One Thousand Surprises (according to the famous publication by the Guild of Merchants)! All human life is there! Although, if it walks down the wrong alley, often quite briefly!
The city celebrated in the bestselling Discworld® series by Sir Terry Pratchett has been meticulously mapped for the first time. It's all here - from Unseen University to the Shades, from major landmarks like the Patrician's Palace to little-known, er, nooks like the Dwarf Bread Museum in Whirligig Alley. See the famous streets along which so many heroes have walked, in some cases quite hurriedly!
As leading Ankh-Morpork entrepreneur C.M.O.T. Dibbler would say: A snip at any price - and that's cutting our own throat. Well, close.

Pratchett's first novel, The Carpet People, was published in 1971. The first Discworld novel, The Colour of Magic, was published in 1983, after which Pratchett wrote an average of two books a year. The final Discworld novel, The Shepherd's Crown, was published in August 2015, five months after his death.
With more than 100 million books sold worldwide in 43 languages, Pratchett was the UK's best-selling author of the 1990s. He was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1998 and was knighted for services to literature in the 2009 New Year Honours. In 2001 he won the annual Carnegie Medal for The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents, the first Discworld book marketed for children. He received the World Fantasy Award for Life Achievement in 2010.
In December 2007 Pratchett announced that he had been diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's disease. He later made a substantial public donation to the Alzheimer's Research Trust (now Alzheimer's Research UK, ARUK), filmed three television programmes chronicling his experiences with the condition for the BBC, and became a patron of ARUK. Pratchett died on 12 March 2015, at the age of 66.

Much like the other Discworld maps that have been released, this is a wonder to behold. This time we are focusing in one the main location of the Discworld novels, Ankh-Morpork, from the Unseen University to all the little Guilds and every little building in between.
It is detailed and intricate, and alongside the map are lovely quotes from the books and unique tidbits from Terry and his characters to bring the city to life.
It should be noted that this edition was published in the lates 90s when there were fewer Discworld novels and won't be completely accurate, despite it claiming to possibly be so. It's pretty concise, though.

It's fun to clear the floor, spread this out, get a magnifying glass, and play-pretend you're an explorer of Ankh-Morpork.
Just remember to bring a little insurance, like a brick in a sock or an armed troll.

Fantastic map, a really great one that adds a lot of things when youre reading Pratchetts works about the city watch for example.

I love maps, and this one faithfully lay out Ankh-Morpork in all of its slightly sticky and more than a little suspicious glory. A must-have for the serious Pratchett fan.

This map has been on the walls of all the apartments that I have been living in since moving away from my passport country. On days when I feel defeated by a language, culture and landscape that baffle me the foreigner, I look at this map and feel slightly more at home, oddly enough.

Another fabulous map hanging next to my bed.
I'm amazed by how much work has been put into, and I can't wait to know those streets by heart.
I don't think I've ever had such a good feeling about a series before, and it was about time I start it !

As for the Discworld map, this is beautifully illustrated and I enjoyed pouring over it, finding all the locations I remember from the books. It doesn't gave the funny additional book but it was still a lovely accompaniment to the books.

December 28, 2023It's a map of perhaps my favourite fictional city (the 3 cities in GTA San Andreas and Milton Keynes are my other favourites) so it's very interesting but its not a book is it? Even with an introduction.

If only the map were detachable by design :/
I mean, I could peel it off but the way it is done, it would mean ruining the book. Big no-no!

Epic ! Must have for all Discworld fans !! :)

I love how much time and effort went into producing a (fairly) accurate map of the city. It's kind of proof of how real imaginary things are.

Rezension zu diesem Buch und The Discworld Mapp: Being the Onlie True and Mostlie Accurate Mappe of the Fantastyk and Magical Dyscworlde:

Where river Ankh smooth waters glide
A detailed map of the most famous city, central to the Discworld universe evolution. As explained by Stephen Briggs in the attached booklet, it was devised mainly from Men at Arms , but is can be easily “stretched” to cover the Discworld series up to Maskerade . Relive the urban adventures you read (or those you dreamed of) strolling from the Shades to the Patrician palace, having a quiet smoke on the Brass Bridge, or going to the market in Sator Square!

This is more or less what it says it is on the tin, a map of Ankh-Morpork. It comes with a little booklet containing a guide to the map and forwards by Terry Pratchett and Stephen Briggs, the map's artist. As far as I can tell, it covers the city up until Maskerade, but was published shortly before Soul Music came out, so Briggs must have been working from written but unpublished material.
It's great fun, but it's not really required to enjoy the series. I think this, like the Discworld Mappe, is for the completist or the serious Discworld lover, but if you're a casual fan or not particularly interested in the worldbuilding, this won't interest you much.

Colorful, detailed, and beautifully rendered map of Ankh-Morpork. The great thing about the Discworld novels is that the whole world is so fully realized in Pratchett's head, and it's nice to now have a map to get around the place. I'm tempted to take it out and frame it for our wall of maps, but it's glued into the binding pretty well.
Includes a key and two introductions, one from Pratchett himself and one by Stephen Briggs, for whom we have to thank for bringing this project to fruition. A must for any Discworld lovers.

A great little companion to the Discworld novels taken place in Ankh-Morpork. It's too big though to read it on the train or bus. Best used in the warmth of your home.
