First in the Shadow of the Dragon series Lorran has studied dragons for years, hoping to find a way for the wild creatures and humans to live in peace. She knows better than most the devastation caused by a dragon bite. And when Kei the Dragonslayer appears on her doorstep, torn and bleeding, she knows he has only weeks to live. Kei has been a dragon slayer all his life, but when he becomes the victim of a dragon bite, he turns to Lorran, the only woman who might be able to save him from sure death. As the dragon venom flows through his body, the desire and need for Lorran's touch fill his every thought. Though he doesn't understand it, he knows - Lorran belongs to him. As his desires grow stronger and wilder than ever before, it seems only Lorran can ease the powerful sexual urges created by the dragon's kiss.

Tielle (pronounced "teal") St. Clare has had life-long love of romance novels. She began reading romances in the 7th grade when she discovered Victoria Holt novels and began writing romances at the age of 16 (during Trigonometry, if the truth be told). During her senior year in high school, the class dressed up as what they would be in twenty years-Tielle dressed as a romance writer.

When not writing romances, Tielle has worked in public relations and video production for the past 20 years. Tielle moved to Alaska when she was seven years old in 1972 when her father was transferred with the military.

Tielle believes romances should be hot and sexy with a great story and fun characters.

Dragon’s Kiss was a freebie I picked up for my Kindle because sometimes I want to read porn. And I hope fervently every time that it’s good porn. Unfortunately for me, this read did not qualify.

I'll admit, I hold everything I read to a very high standard, and erotica is no exception. Even if the main reason for reading is steamy sex, I want good characterization and a solid plot at the very least – world-building and a colourful cast of side characters and sub-plots are a plus. Dragon’s Kiss didn’t meet the bare minimum. The plot itself – a dragon researcher caring for the now-bitten King of the realm, attempting to find a way to cure him – had promise, and the idea that dragons were a sort of were-beast was very interesting, but the author didn’t execute it well. There was almost no world-building, nothing to explain the world of the story, and there was so much sex the plot got bogged down and might as well have been an afterthought. Sex scenes did nothing to affect character change, and the amount of time the main characters spent in coitus kept their characters from becoming little more than cardboard cut-outs. Side characters (and there are very few) are barely even that. There are hardly any descriptions of characters, settings, etc. I have no idea what dragons are supposed to look like in this world, and so have no idea how the copulation frequently referred to by characters is even remotely possible.

I can’t even say the sex scenes were that enjoyable to read. The first couple were pretty good, but the language the author chose to use put me off. They were also repetitive, in action and in wording. In fact, most of the story itself was repetitive, very telly and not very showy, with characters doing and thinking/saying the same things over and over ad nauseam. Yes, I read the first thirty pages, I know there is no cure for a dragon-bite. Yes, I know the dragon is waking up in Kei’s mind and talking. You don’t need to tell me a million times! I had mostly lost interest by the time I reached the scene where Lorran and the dragon have a go, but I imagine that would be off-putting to some.

My other qualm is the nature of the dragon/king’s relationship with Lorran (the female lead). It is far too possessive and (even though consent pretty carefully implied in the narration) has an uncomfortably rapey feel. In fact, the whole story smacked a little too much of hyper gender-normative ideology (e.g. women must be subservient and possessed, men are voracious in their appetites and are the only sort of warriors) which rubbed me wrong pretty much from the start. That the main character feels she is more independent since becoming Kei’s lover does not ring true in the least. I wouldn’t recommend the book for this fact alone.

While it wasn’t a dreadful read, I can’t say it was very enjoyable either. I'm giving it two starts, but I would prefer to give one and a half as the premise is interesting, but nothing else lives up to that potential.

Whew. Hot dragon loving ahead! "Shadow of the Dragon" is the first book of Tielle St Clare's dragon series and it's quite the scorcher. Scrumptious men who turn into dragons and crave sex with their 'mate'. My, my, my...

Lorran know's firsthand the fate of men bitten by dragons--they become dragons. No one has ever found a way to come back to their human selves. It happened to her husband and the pain of his treatment afterward and death almost killed her. Now, someone has dumped Kei the Dragonslayer, the man who killed her husband, on her doorstep, bitten by a dragon. How ironic.

Kei can't remember at first how he got here or where here is for that matter. He does know that the woman here with him smells soooooo good. Then he remembers what happened, and as the days pass and the dragon inside him becomes more powerful he fears not just for himself, but for Lorran too.

Sappy, sexy, and satisfying. I want a dragonman for myself!!

Dragon shifter, and true mates trope. I liked the plot but felt the steamy scenes detracted from a good idea. Dragons are killed and the heroine seems to be the only person trying to understand what happens when they bite a human. She was great, smart, and held to her promises. The H was a good man, perhaps not a smart as the heroine. Less steam and more story needed.

3.5 Not to bad. But once they had sex it was pretty much nonstop. Which then became repetitive. The best part was the ending where it seemed like there was actually a story and not just sex. I guess I just wish there was more of story line. Also the C word for a women was over used. There was sex about every other page and I lost count of how many times the C word was used. Kinda a turn off for me. But I did love the Dragon :)

Not erotica its erotic romance. This series does have HEA endings and the story does offer some plot but beware its full of sex. The second book to this series offers readers a taste of what kind of sex the dragon really likes so beware you will get into some really kinky stuff.

So Lorran is the resident dragon expert, shunned by the village she lives in for protecting the beasts which indiscriminately go around killing people.

Kai is the king who has been bitten by a dragon and will soon succumb to the beast growing inside him.

Lorran realises that the only way to prevent the beast from taking over is remain in close physical contact with him (to screw him senseless).

What can I say? It was erotic romance.

Not a huge plot
Not huge character definition

A lot of sex

I think if you find that gets old soon then drop this book from your bookshelf. If you want more actual erotica in your sex scenes then remove this from your mustreads.

Why did I give it 5 stars?

It was easy. It was a simple fairy tale smothered in smut sauce. But it was simple smut. Nothing too complex or challenging with a nice soppy love story thrown in. I love a dragon. I love low angst. I love a dream sex sequence. An inner battle. An irresistible heroine. A possessive animal that growls ‘mine’ all the time and sex 5 times in one evening.

So, in reading this book, I learned that dragons really like to eat pussy. In human and dragon form. This was really heavy on sex. And I like sex in my (erotic) romances, as long as it's meaningful. I'm not saying it didn't end up being meaningful here. There was just so much of it. I think it could've been a really interesting story if the world were built further.

The hero, Kei, is the king (of somewhere) and a dragon slayer. He's attempting to slay Effron, a dragon terrorizing a local village, when he's bitten. Apparently, a dragon bite turns the victim in to a dragon after about three weeks time and dragons are full of rage. They terrorize villages and cause villagers to sacrifice virgins, etc. So, Riker, the younger brother of Kei, takes Kei to Lorran, the heroine and "dragon whore". Lorran is a widow. Her first husband suffered a dragon bite and Kei was the one to slay him. So, Lorran is known as the "dragon whore" because she studies dragons after what happened to her husband. She attempts to help Kei. They have a whole lot of sex. Then Kei leaves her in an effort to protect her (his dragon, Nekane, is taking over his mind). This is when things start to happen. Unfortunately, this is at the 70% mark.

In the last 30%, we meet Kafe, Kei's evil twin brother. He tries to take over the kingdom by kidnapping Lorran and threatening her welfare in front of Kei. Stuff happens from there (avoiding spoilers). The epilogue takes places 22 years later. SO much that could've made this a really interesting journey was skipped over in favor of sex for the first 70%.

I might try the second book in the series to see if the world is developed further. Hopefully it is. Otherwise, I'll give up.

Fun read. Hero is a dragonslayer who gets bitten by a dragon - which in this world means he's going to turn into a dragon. His younger brother takes him to 'the woman who studies dragons' in hopes she can help...

King Kei wakes up and finds out he is going to turn into a dragon. He is horrified and plans to suicide - after he's set up his younger brother to take over the kingdom. Lorran talks him into staying while she studies the transition. He doesn't fight very hard because of his overwhelming obsession with Lorran. Then he starts hearing another voice in his head saying 'Mine!' every time he looks at Lorran. He fears he might hurt Lorran so he blows her off and goes back to the castle.

Avoiding spoilers, Lorran is threatened, he turns into a dragon to save her and then flies away. His brother feels he must slay the dragon but Lorran thinks she might have the solution...

There's a lot of Energizer bunny sex but it has an interesting plot, good characters and cute dialog. And the Epilogue [20+ years later:] is hysterical! Warning the heroine has [oral:] sex with the hero in dragon form - if that bugs you stay away from these four.

I think I originally read this series in 2013, maybe? But I had just discovered Ellora's Cave and bought up so many books by Tielle St. Clare. I liked the naughtiness of her taking advantage of her patient. Sure he's super strong and determined to have his way with her but if she truly wanted to resist it wouldn't have happened. Also her husband was jerkface.

This was an unexpected pleasure because St. Clare takes the typical shifter story and turns it on its head. Most shifter books make the transformation from human to shifter happen pretty quickly. But that's not the case in Dragon's Kiss. Instead, the transformation is the slow crux of the plot, and I found that viewpoint fascinating.

Dragon's Kiss focuses on a hero, Kei, who's been bitten by a dragon--and that means he'll change into one. He's sent to Lorran, who lost her husband to dragon transformation years ago and who has studied dragons ever since, to see if there's any help she can offer. And there really isn't any way to stop the dragon from taking over, until Kei's dragon nature starts taking a strong interest in Lorran.

I loved Lorran and Kei's intense pull toward one another--this book is chock-full of sensual scenes--as they confront Kei's inevitable fate. And yet that pull is what might offer Kei a chance at a different life than as a lonely and desperate dragon. Seeing these two realize that they've discovered something special made this a treat to read. And seeing something new in the typical shifter-romance story was something special for me!

SPOILERS:

Okay, so this book has a decent amount of sex scenes, and whilst a tad repetitive it's the fact that at about the 80% mark the author refers to the dragon as a "child in a dragon's body" but doesn't seem to be bothered by that at all. It's just a bit weird to me that this dragon seems to have a strong sex drive and whilst the man it's inhabiting is an adult, the fact the female protagonist doesn't think it's inappropriate to have sexual relations with it... just bizarre to me. Obviously sex in fantasy but something I found fairly uncomfortable.

The book is fine, not terribly written but not super original either. I gave it 1 star because of the strange child dragon / horny man, that must conquer her vagina...

Mine!

Overall quality of writing was really good. Well rounded characters and storyline. Lorran, a widow, studies dragons. Ok, backing up, these dragons aren't born from eggs, rather through a bite. Lorran 's husband was bitten and threw a process became a dragon. Then killed. Fast forward.....King Kei, also bitten also endures the process but where Lorran couldn't help her husband, she does Kei. There's a lot of "calming" the beast, yet so well written, it's nearly believable. Going from feeling useless, disowned, and humiliated, Lorran finds strength, feeling needed and loved. Having Kei/Nekane calling her "Mine", leads to a very happy ever after! Absolutely enjoyed this read! No cheating or cliffhanger. Enjoy 🤓

Love Loved Loved

I loved this book years ago when I first read it. It is still a great read. The scenes are hot and ongoing. 😊 The storyline is a good one with the angst of the main character losing himself not just in form but also emotionally. The bad guy is believable, great job with the evil twin.
Outside of a few minor edits, this was a satisfying read.

Ok

I have had this book for 8 years. It was an ok book. Story was mostly sex but could have been so much more. It's been released again new cover not sure if modified at all . Left a little without closure of what happened with the brother that threatened the king..

Good story with LOTS of sex

This was an interesting story. It is a different and unique story line for dragon shifters. There was sex, angst, more sex, betrayal (not cheating), more sex and then an HEA in I would recommend for sure.

Book 1

Book 1 was an interesting read and had a few errors throughout. The overall was okay and the plot and characters are well thought out. The FMC was well developed and the oddity/dragon of the book was interesting to see change.

"I need you." ~Kei

He cuddled her close and snuggled into the blankets, like a child holding his favorite toy...

M'k...so this one has been hanging out on my kindle white for who knows how long. While I do love shifter reads, dragon shifters aren't exactly at the top of my list but, since I'm full speed ahead on my operation "Clean out my kindle!" I figured, meh, I'll give a go. Can I just say...wow.

This book isn't for everyone. When I say there is a lot of sex, I do mean A LOT and well, think about our characters here...sometimes man, sometimes not, blurring lines...yeah, that. And while that isn't my bag per say, it wasn't too much, it was handled in a way that didn't make me want to throw up in my mouth so YAY for that!

What drew me in was our male lead, our uber alpha, our cranky, stubborn manly man as he fought his demons (literally). Hailed as the ultimate dragon slayer, the tables are turned and Kei finds himself in the care of the village outcast of whom her neighbors have dubbed "dragon whore". He needs her help and she needs to study him and together, they make quite a pair. Rampant sex aside, the budding relationship, the bonding between these two characters was quite endearing and as man embraces his inner beast, things get complicated and for me, fascinating and yeah, I swooned a little (lot).

I'm always little miss grabby hands for the freebies but this cover is eye catching but...OK, here's the thing, I really liked Lorran, our female lead. I'm not one for books that go out of their way to tell you repeatedly that the woman is "curvy" or "softer" or "rounder" than most women that the typical male finds attractive. I mean, I could do a post on that alone but...I won't. ;-) Back to topic, Dragon's Kiss didn't shove it down my throat, not like some, but it is hinted to enough to where the girl on the cover, in my opinion, shouldn't be my size. The cover is gorgeous, the model is gorgeous, but I saw "Lorran" differently. OK, enough of that, off my soap box now.

Dragon's Kiss is the first of Shadow of the Dragon series and set up quite nicely for book 2. I look forward to seeing where it leads. Happy reading!

This book was a fast and easy read. Most of the pages were filled with sexual tension and encounters, but the main concept of the book was interesting. Not much attention was given to the technicalities of how dragons’ behave and why they behave like that, but I guess it would be really impossible to do so because not all dragons would be the same. However, the book was filled with enough information to understand what was going on with our dragon in the story.

The characters fell a little flat to me, but they are still somewhat dynamic. Like, they didn’t exactly have major personality changes but they were still incredibly powerful and dedicated to how their character was shaped and form. For example, Lorran: I don’t really understand how she can feel so much for the person who killed her husband, but we see that her dedication to her work can just be as strong as her dedication and loyalty to other people she cares about. She’s passionate about the things that she does, and even though it doesn’t give much to her character development, it still formed and honed her to be an inspiring female protagonist. Oh, and don’t worry about the “person who killed her husband” thing since she was only married to her husband because of duty and dedication and you’ll find out a little bit more if you read the book.

I enjoyed being in this world of the “Seven Kingdoms” and there seems to be so much more to explore! This series has a lot of potential to become well known if there was a bigger plot such as a civil war or something like that. Right now, it’s just an erotica novel that others might bluntly and blatantly call as porn.

This quickly read book features a dragon-researching heroine who is charged with looking after the king following an attempted dragon-slaying in which he was bit. Once a person has been bit in this world, they fall in to a feverish state from which they awake to a growing dragon presence within themselves. The dragon grows stronger until its consciousness overrides that of the humans and physical transformation is completed.

There isn't really much else that can be said without giving away the plot. As this is classified as erotica it should be no surprise that there is a lot of sex within the story-line... As for how MUCH sex... think: two bunnies going at it times ten. Because of this, the majority of the book focuses on this factor and the reader knows that they are starting to care for each other solely due to mentions of off-page conversations during which we are told they laugh and enjoy themselves.

All that said... this book is hot and receives good marks for the scenes being detailed and interesting while not being so long as to make my eyes start scanning ahead for the finish line. It is the first book in a four book series and, as the other three follow the couple's children, the reader is given a rather cute epilogue as a segue into the rest of the books.

If you're looking for a quick bit of fluff and don't mind reading about just why some sacrificial virgins are eager to be "eaten" by a big scaly dragon with a nimble tongue, I highly recommend this read.

5 stars? Well, yep. I'm as surprised as you are! I figured I needed to give it 5 stars based on my total involvement in this story. It seduced me into loving it! I found myself laughing, nervous, aroused, and confused. Not every book is able to do that, and I certainly didn't expect this one to.

I'm discovering that I am able to enjoy a good sci-fi/fantasy erotic story more than a more "realistic" one. When I read a contemporary romance, it has to be very good for me to believe it. I tend to get hung up on details that make stories not fit into the real world. When I read a more fantastical romance, it's easier to just let go, feel, and experience the story. Since it is clearly fiction, I don't need to have my brain accept every detail as possible/real. I allow myself to be immersed in a different world, where anything is possible.

In the world of Lorran and Kei, I was able to relate to very real emotions. I thought the characters were well developed and I was able to feel their struggles, and their desires. I will definitely recommend this book to all of my EROTICA loving friends. I look forward to the rest of the series.

**Spoiler ?? **

Lorran is an outcast, living on the edge of town studying dragons. When a human is bitten by a dragon he is turned into one within 3 weeks. She observes dragons trying to understand them and see if the change can be reversed after having lost her husband to a dragon slayer. While minding her own business she gets a seldom heard knock on the door and none other than the dragon slayer and king Kei is deposited in her bed after being injured by a dragon. Everyone knows her as the 'dragon whore' but Kei's brother knows if anyone can help him that it is her. She takes care of him to the best of her ability but the dragon sees her as his mate and Kei constantly fights the internal battle with the dragon to keep control.
So, good story, got to warn that there is a lot of sex. But there is still the emotion and story in there, it doesnt detract from it. Definitely open for sequels too.

I wasn't 100% sure how to rate this one. Tielle is a great writer. I really enjoy the way she layers stories and the personality and banter. That said, this is not her best work. It was heavy on the sex and light on the character development. I read this series some time ago and I really enjoyed it. I'm pretty sure that the story building, character development and all around plot line improves with every book and as of the second one it was more impressive. Having said that, this book wasn't bad at all. It was a fun quick read that was exactly what it was. I did think that there were a few minor notes in the book that were impressive in their newness. The background story of how the dragons came to be, why they were misunderstood, etc. was something I haven't seen played before in this genre.

In this world of dragons, humans are turned into dragons following a dragon bite. The male host is slowly taken over by a dragon entity that shares the body until the human persona no longer exists. Lorran has studied the dragons following the loss of her husband to a dragon bite then the dragon hunter and king Kei killed him. Kei is also bitten and brought to Lorran to see if she can reverse the transition or at least hide him. Interesting world building, This is classified erotica, but the need to hump ever 10 seconds and multiple times was a little much. There was a good storyline hidden in there somewhere, just not sure if I will continue with series.

Very in-your-face erotica. It's a wonder the story unfolded with all the intense sex going on, but it was a wonderful story. I liked the turmoil inside each of the characters; Kei, struggling with the dragon about to emerge from him and Lorran, struggling (with how she should handle Kei's torment)with her emotions that are erupting for the man (and the dragon Nekane)she is trying to study as well as comfort through his transition. Read, if you dare, to find out what the triad of burning desires does to each of them. If you are a fan of fantasy, erotica and romance, then this book is for you.
