The third and final book in the Stillwater Trilogy by Brenda Novak. But he does and he uncovers more than Madeline could imagine.

I've read some of the other reviews, and most people thought this book was too detailed about the sexual abuse, it made them uncomfortable, or it just was unthinkable. Well, unfortunately, however uncomfortable it may make you to read it, sexual abuse happens all the time in the real world. There were two books leading up to this one, you should have seen this coming. The only way Maddy was going to find out what happened to her father was for the whole story to unfold...all the gory details. Ho ...more

Gripping, Heartbreaking, Emotional & Captivating! An Excellent/Exciting Read! I Loved It!

Good suspense, a sexy leading man, and a satisfying resolution to the Stillwater trilogy. The audiobook narrator is good too. I first read/listened to this series quite a few years ago. Looking back, I was less enthusiastic about Novak's work than I might have been, if I hadn't been heavily into erotic romance at the time and hoping for more explicit sex scenes than this series offers. This time around, the relative lack of throbbing euphemisms didn't bother me. (Once you've read enough of that, ...more
Wonderful conclusion to this series! Answers all of the questions, although some of the answers will turn your stomach. It definitely goes into much more detail about what happened (which the reader already knows what happened from the first two books). I loved the entire Montgomery family, as well as Madeline (and their respective partners). I'm really going to miss reading about them!

So we finally find out who killed the Reverend. This last book in the trilogy keeps you on your toes especially when Madeline brings in her own PI to look into the disappearance of her father 20 years ago. With a little romance and lots of mystery - one person who popped up, I didnt expect to be involved - this book was read in 3 days.

Love Novak books and will continue to read them especially since I cant put them down. The whole Montgomery family is amazing and powerful. Great writing again!

I started this book with a great deal of anxiety and expectations. I knew Madeline wants to discover what happened to her father but I really didn't want her to do that. I wanted her to forget about the whole thing because her family has already suffered so much and she doesn't even realise that.

The people of Stillwater, Mississippi, are asking questions about murder. Again.

So far so good.....

Finally finished the book. But the 3rd book is quite gory for my liking. Still, the book is very good.

Great book I read the series in order. Brenda is a great Author I couldn't put this book down
In this conclusion to the Stillwater trilogy, the truth comes out into the open and Madeline has to face it head on, whether she likes it or not. Dead Right brings the story line and suspense up a notch when Madeline decides to outsource a private investigator to help her solve the mystery behind her father’s disappearance.

To be totally honest, a case like this SHOULD be left in the hands of an outsider, if only because too many people are too biased about the rest of the people in this small to

Another good read by Brenda Novak. This is the third book in the Stillwater Trilogy. I must say, out of the three books, this was my least favorite. Which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 like I did the other two. I mainly did that because I didn't feel the connection the two main characters, Madeline and Hunter had, as strongly as I did like Grace and Kennedy and Clay and Allie.

I still very much enjoyed the story line and it was nice to finally get resolution for Madeline. I did like the

Madeline Barker's father disappeared without a trace 19 years ago. When she starts to feel that the local police force of Stillwater has lost the drive to find her father, or to solve his murder, she hires a private detective from California. Little did she know her father's Cadillac was about to be discovered, and secrets that had long been hidden inside it brought to light.

Hunter Solozano is trying to make amends with his daughter for the damage his ex wife has done to their relationship, but

OMG! This story was exciting, scary, sad, happy, thrilling, & most of all truly an eye-opener. After 20 some years Madeline finally knows the truth about her reprehensible father and realizes all that her "adopted" family has done for her. Brenda Novak pulls you right into the lives and hearts of her characters. Stillwater, MS is a town that put blame on someone for many years with no proof of guilt.

Dead Right is the conclusion to Brenda Novak's Stillwater Trilogy. Highly recommend reading these stories in order. While I liked Hunter and even Maddy (although she seemed really naive) they didn't have that spark that I found in the other 2 stories. It was still certainly engaging and took some unexpected turns. There are some dark elements in this story but compared to some I've read, this was really pretty mild.

Great book and trilogy! Great plot, characters, mystery, and romance. Was sad finishing the book. I've grown to love a lot of these characters and I really hated knowing this was the last book and I had to say goodbye. Highly recommend this series!

The end of the Stillwater Triology ties up all the loose ends and is a fabulous read! Madeline is still trying to solve the mystery of her father's disappearance and hires a P.I. from California in order to bring in fresh eyes. His appearance is not really appreciated by the rest of the family and at first they are uncooperative. Then comes the discovery of the reverend's car in a local pond. What is found inside the trunk is very disturbing and lends a new direction to the mystery. This is an e ...more

This is the last book in the Stillwater series and we finally have a closing to the murder that we have followed since the first book. Madeline Barker decided to hire a private detective to find out what really happened to her father. Hunter Solozano came from California and was a little younger than Mandy but he did not have preconceived notions of who had killed the Reverend so he was asking everyone hard questions. This was a great closing to this series and even though you thought you knew w ...more

2.5 stars. I had no sympathy for the heroine. The story was unsettling due to sexual sadism and other harm to children.

This is the final book in the Stillwater Trilogy. It continues the story about the unsolved death of Lee Barker. Barker was a sexual sadist minister who abused his stepdaughter and others. His wife and step children had something to do with his death and buried the body on the family farm. Madeline was his biological daughter and had no idea that Barker was evil. She

Review from Backchatting Books

I found this book fairly difficult to read given the references to sexual abuse. I haven’t read the first two books in the series and the blurb on the back didn’t exactly prepare me for what was to come. Madeline Barker’s father disappeared twenty years ago and her step brother has long been suspected of killing him. When her father’s car is discovered in the local quarry, it sparks new questions rather than answering old ones.

Madeline still sees her father through

This review is going to be full of spoilers, so be warned.

I was hesitate to read the final book in this series. I knew this story was going to be the closure and the end of Maddy's story, and it took me two books to decide I really did not like Maddy. In the last book when she paid someone to "scare" Ally with the hopes of speeding up the investigation, I couldn't understand why the family continued to make the choices that they made. I do not know why everyone tried to hide the facts from Maddy

Finally the finale. Do I sound mean if I still dislike Madeline after finishing the book???

Chuckle... I can't help it. Cos to be fair... Out of the Montgomery siblings, she have the privilege to live as happily as she can without the dark cloud hanging above her head. I know. I know I'm MEAN, but her character did not make me like her until

You must visit Stillwater!
Dead Right by Brenda Novak is the last book in the Stillwater series. In this book Madeline must face the harsh reality about her father. It helps I'm sure to have private detective Hunter Solozano by her side to uncover and digest the horrible truths from so long ago. Her step brother Clay is always near by to protect her. This series is nothing short of Awesome!! I'm an audible reader so listening to the books was a real treat for me. It was so very enjoyable and I lo

It only just occurred to me tonight as I was rereading the Stillwater trilogy that I hadn't reviewed it yet read my copies u til they were well worn and dog eared. I'm disappointed in myself for not showing one of my all time favourite authors some justified star action.

This series will tear at your heart strings, make you hold your babies close and require several boxes of tissues.

I cry a lot, I'm definitely a big old scary, ugly crier and this series will just floor you

(Mystery 2007) As usual for me, this is the third of a series, but held together well enough I don't mind missing the first two. in a small Mississippi town, Madeline Barker seeks to find what happened to her father twenty years ago when he disappeared. In the first two books, her stepmother and stepsiblings have been accused, especially her stepbrother, and exonerated (but still suspected). She hires a PI from California, Hunter Solozano, who puts pieces together and eventually finds out what h ...more

It was a shocking experience that jump-started Brenda Novak’s bestselling author career.

“I caught my day-care provider drugging my children with cough syrup and Tylenol to get them to sleep while I was away,” Brenda says. “It was then that I decided that I needed to do something from home.”

However, writing was the last profession she expected to undertake. In fact, Brenda swears she didn’t have a
