Lauren Weisberger is an American writer and author of the 2003 bestseller The Devil Wears Prada, a roman à clef of her experience as an assistant to Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. Weisberger worked as a writer and editor for Vogue and Departures magazines prior to authoring The Devil Wears Prada, which was adapted into a film of the same name in 2006. She has since published seven other novels.

Better than the movie.

Amazing. The movie doesn’t even cover a third of the craziness that is Miranda Priestly. I listened to this on audiobook and could NOT stop for anything. I was having so much ANXIETY! just listening to the damn thing! Wow. The movie — it didn’t even cover the insane internal turmoil the poor protagonist went through! Andy in the book is 100000x more interesting too! Wow. So great!

I thought the character was extremely ungrateful and couldn't look past her boss' personality to see the wonderful opportunity. If she hated the demands of her job and thought it so frivolous, she should have just quit and given someone else the opportunity.

This is the book that I needed when I was working at the job I lovingly called the office job from hell. Andrea had it worse than I did and it would have helped me to read about it. Loved this book!!

Ich liebe den Film "Der Teufel trägt Prada" und nusste natürlich das Original dazu lesen. Auch die Party Queen von Manhattan hab ich gelesen - die typischen Frauen Stories, aber ich mag den Schreibstil nicht so gerne, fand ich persönlich etwas anstrengend.

Schon etliche Male habe ich den Film zum passenden Buch Der Teufel trägt Prada gesehen und muss sagen, dass ich ihn sehr mag. Schon sehr lange war klar, dass ich das Buch irgendwann mal lesen würde. Als ich dann auch das E-Book gestoßen bin, wollte ich es recht schnell lesen und war gespannt auf beide Geschichten..

.. jedoch wurde ich ziemlich schnell enttäuscht. Beide Bücher haben eins zu eins das gleiche Schema: eine graue Maus, die kein Lust mehr auf ihr langweiliges Leben hat und ganz zufällig einen Job in der High Society ergattert. Von da an, verfolgen die beiden Geschichten in ihrem Kontext einfach das komplett gleiche Ziel mit einem quasi identischen Ende. Wobei ich Buch 1 (hier der Teufel trägt Prada) noch ganz okay fand, wurde mir beim zweiten einfach nur noch langweilig und ich habe dem Ende regelrecht entgegengefiebert, einfach nur, dass es endlich ein Ende haben würde. Genau durch dieses Schema war bei die Party Queen von Manhattan quasi jedes einzelne Geschehen voraus zu sehen..

Persönlich fand ich die Kapitel viel zu lang. Es kann sein, dass mir dies nur so vorkam, jedoch war ich teilweise echt froh, wenn ich eine "Pause einlegen" konnte. Dass dieses Gefühl durch die oben genannte Langeweile nur unterstützt wurde, brauche ich eigentlich gar nicht zu erwähnen. Obwohl das zweite Buch quasi doppelt so viele Kapitel auf der gleichen Seitenanzahl besitzt, kamen sie mir nicht unbedingt kürzer vor. Einige hatte man in einer Minute durch, da sie eine kleine Szene beschrieben, bei anderen brauchte man jedoch eine Ewigkeit.

Nach der vielen Kritik kann ich nur noch sagen, dass ich die Idee hinter den einzelnen Geschichten eigentlich echt toll, und teilweise sogar wirklich realistisch finde, jedoch wurde sie teilweise einfach nicht gut umgesetzt. Man hätte einfach soviel mehr draus machen können, mehr Spannung und 100 Seiten weniger hätten den Büchern auch nicht viel geschadet, aber hey, das Leben ist kein Wunschkonzert!

Im Nachhinein kann ich nur sagen, dass ich (leider) sehr enttäuscht von dem E-Book bin. Liest man die beiden Geschichten einzeln, mit einem Jahr Abstand dazwischen, können einem die Geschichten echt richtig gut gefallen, aber für mich war der zweite Teil teilweise nur noch eine einzige Qual, da ich eh wusste, was passieren würde. Schweren Herzens kann ich deshalb nur 2,5 von 5 Punkten vergeben, einfach weil die Geschichten einzeln sicherlich wunderbar toll sein können, hintereinander jedoch nur noch langweilig.

I've loved Lauren Weisberger's books ever since i read 'The Devil Wears Prada' she has been one of the many writers of chick-lit that I have come to adore. Her plots are perfect and girly and anyone who loves fiction regarding fashion, designers and the occasional boy meets girl romances then her books are perfect :) 'everyone worth knowing' made me laugh out loud, some of the chapters had me in stitches. I actually re-purchased a lot of her books when they were paperback purely because the cover art was stunning! I love that each one had a shoe on the cover and the spine, as bad as this sounds they look adorable on the bookshelf! Overall the books are a fairly easy read and the characters are brilliant, especially miranda priestly 'shivers' her character was almost scary! Light-hearted reads, extremely girly, great on a bookshelf........ What more could a girl ask for? Go check them out x

Listened to this about a month ago. Twas a great reminder not to get so wrapped up in yourself that you forget the important things in life. Also remember that our insecurities can allow a strong-willed, self-involved person to lead us in the wrong direction.
