I truly enjoyed this book. I was first introduced to Harper in ‘Deadly Intentions’ because I unfortunately didn’t read the books in the correct order. He was so straightforward and honest about what and WHO he wanted! Barbara deserved that plus the family connections she discovered along the way.
I would love if Ms. Poarch could write a book or books about the Claxton’s ancestors and how they came to the island and survived. That would be a great read!
In the interest of ‘redemption’ it would be interesting to read a novella about Andrew’s journey and growth.
Overall I love Candice Poarch books, her writing is great and I would love to see some new books from her.

When I picked this up I had no idea that it was part of a series and now have to go back and read the first two. Island of Deceit is sort of a hybrid romance/mystery with action and love throughout. Barbara Turner is recently retired and all set to move with her grandmother back to Paradise Island, where their family is from. But when her grandmother dies after being swindled by con artists, Barbara changes tactics and seeks revenge.
She traces the crooks to, coincidentally, Paradise Island and settles in to entrap them and retrieve the money they stole from her grandmother and several other elderly women. What Barbara doesn't count on is the attraction she feels for Harper Porterfield, the island's sheriff and what their relationship could mean for her plan.
The best things about this book are that Barbara is a plus-sized woman of a certain age, qualities that you don't find in a lot of romances, and that the island is full of African-American history. Can't wait to read others in the series.

I started reading this book unaware that it the 3rd in a series. Not enough back ground was given for someone who had not read the other books. Regardless of that and that the history of the golden bowl was not given- just the line that it had a history, I still found the story very compelling. Lots of twists turns and confusion. Since the library does not have the pervious books, I'm reading the next in the series with the hope that there will be more explanations to be found there.

This is an entertaining read about family, connections, and a missing heirloom. Throw in a little romance with the murders as the mystery gets a little more complicated.
This is my fav book in this series.
