Citing the reappearance of charms on the fashion scene, a photographic history features personal stories behind and detailed images of pieces from the collections of such figures as Joan Crawford, Mariah Carey, and the Duchess of Windsor. 15,000 first printing.
I don't understand the obsession with fashion, make-up, shoes and jewelry.
HOWEVER...
I'm guessing I was probably about seven years old when my mom gave me a charm bracelet. It featured five little-girl oriented charms. No doubt she planned to buy me more, perhaps once a year to celebrate my birthday, but like my baby book that just sort of petered out about age six months...she never got around to it. Maybe this is why I've always had a secret fondness for these bauble-filled beauties. I know they're impractical as hell, They're noisy. The charms catch in your hair, sweaters, other peoples' hair and sweaters, furniture - you name it. But still...no other piece of jewelry seems so personal, so unusual, so uniquely - YOU!
This book is just a gosh-darn celebration of the charm bracelet. Packed with glorious color photos of both entire bracelets and individual charms, it is filled with pictures of shiny things I'd love to own.
Unless jewelry is REALLY your thing, it's probably NOT worth $32.50. I found it for much, much less in a remainder catalogue, and am quite pleased with my purchase.
This book is amazing when it comes to the lore of metal charms. It includes some great close up color photos of tons of different charms and discusses the history and lore of collecting charms. In my opinion this is a priceless addition to an in-home library. I am a big metal charm fan so I cant get enough of books like this...
