A glimpse into northwestern Florida during the 1960's. There were some interesting observations interspersed with quite a lot of detail, which made this book difficult for me to read. I enjoyed reading about towns that I know well, and learning what they were like and how they have or haven't really changed. But there was a lot of information and description that I found unnecessary. A mildly interesting read for someone who knows and loves this part of Florida.
Really enjoyed this book. Although obviously dated (written in the late 1960s) still an excellent perspective on parts of Florida you hear less about, as well as the character studies, history, flora and fauna, and interesting stories. Definitely worth the read!
The closest I may get to a natural history of the Florida Panhandle. Lots of really wonderful moments and a thread of understanding of how environment sculpts culture.
