When I first saw the book cover, I honestly wasn't sure what to expect. I mean, yeah sure there was a robot-looking thang on the cover and it looked cute but I had no idea if I would like it. When I read that it was supposed to be a book about a geek who turned into a vampire, I just HAD to read it! And I've seen some buzz around about this creation and was getting very curious.

Reading this book was actually enjoyable! Gilbert Garfinkle turned out to be super adorable geek that d

Why My Love Life Sucks follows Gilbert Garfinkle, a loveable geek who meets a gorgeous girl, Amber, who turns out to be a vampire. The story begins with Gilbert getting bitten, and both flashes back to how that happened, and how he deals with it afterwards. After Amber turns him, Gilbert not only has to try and pick up the pieces of his shattered dreams

Okay I have to say that at first I was unsure of this book and I will be perfectly honest the cover sort of turned me off, I know that I shouldn't, but I totally judge a book by its cover. And well this story proved to me that I shouldn't always. From the minute I opened my kindle and began reading the story of Gilbert Garfinkle, the ultimate geek/fixer who just so happens to have an eidetic memory, invents things, has a crappy home life, and just happened to receive his first kiss from a vampir ...more

Okay when I picked up this book for review, I took one look at the cover and went okay what an odd cover. Then I started reading, and as I turned the pages, reading about Gilbert, I immediately realized that I knew Gilbert! Okay maybe not the book Gilbert, but I sure know the Gilbert that lives inside of me. Trekkie, Geek, Nerd, Computer Nut, Photographic memory, someone who always takes things apart to fix them better. Yep I know that person!

So now that I had this common ground with Gilbert, bo

I have to admit to being caught completely off guard by this one. While I wasn't expecting it to be bad or anything, otherwise why read it, I was expecting it to be really juvenile. (In he sense of written for younger readers, not written by a juvenile writer or someone with juvenile skill.) And while I have no doubt tweens could read and enjoy the book, as a 35 year old woman I did too.

Gilbert has a royal sense of humour that works really well as a narrator. He got quite a few laughs out of me

Y'all, this book was so darn funny! I am definitely adding Shevi to my list of authors to watch.

Our main character, Gilbert, is a nerdy guy just getting through life until he can get to college and do something with his life. His mother doesn't like him, his father is dead, and he's the poorest rich kid there is.

Just by chance, he met Amber. She w

This is the second book I've read from author Shevi Arnold, (Ride Of Your Life was the first) and in her usual style, she gets the reader involved and interested from the first sentence and makes him/her want to read on. I adored this book. Immediately, you are sucked into (pun intended) the world of loveable geek, Gilbert and his dilemma of having just been bitten by a vampire.

Gilbert, has a strong voice as a character. Arnold knows how to use dialogue to reveal her characters' personalities i

This book was totally fun for me to read. It was different from the book I have been reading but it was right up my alley. Being a geeky gamer person myself I totally fell in love with this book. What was great is that from the first couple of pages author Shevi Arnold grabbed my attention and kept me turning the page. I love the idea of this geeky and totally lovable guy being bitten by a vampire. It was fun and totally funny too.

I felt that the characters were very well written and their perso

The book was good! Gilbert Garfinkle our main character, was adorable. He is awkward and yes, geeky. Turning into a vampire changed it all. It was a fun sort of book. No angst. I loved the characters and the witty times. Gilbert tells his story involving this crazy episode. So he has no choice but to go with it, deal with being a vampire.

Gilbert a true geek, he could fix anything! Socially, he was awkward and out of place, but he was him! His personality was no outgoing. He had a horrible home

"My Uncle Ian likes to buy me things to make up for the fact my mother's a b****." Smooth Gilbert, real smooth. Gilbert tends to over-share, "only half-Jewish ethnically. My father was Jewish, and my mother's Protestant, which means I'm free to be whatever I like, and I've chosen not to practice any religion. Now will you please tell me how many people you've killed." Of course Gilbert really wasn't over stepping things when he said his mom is a b**** because she really is, "save it for someone ...more

okay First of I have to say.. Bahahahaha!
This book was Fantastic! it was so funny at times I had a few tears escape. The main character is 17 teen year old Gilbert Garfinkle and he's a total dork!. His mother is a cold hearted money grubber who treats him like crap. Gilbert(or Gil) is sweet and funny but like i said,he's a total nerd,he has his whole life planed out, except for Amber who flips his wh

Gilbert Garfinkle what a name it leaps out to you screaming geek, nerd etc. and that is exactly what Gibert is. He loves nothing more than inventing things. His mother hates him which is sad really, how can you hate your own son.

He is 17 but looks 12 and he has dreams to complete university and fixing the world. In comes Amber who changes his life completely.

Gilbert has no clue when it comes to girls, or stalkers for that matter. Gilbert makes me laugh as he is a funny guy being a geek vampire i

Funny, smart and completely original, Why My Love Life Sucks is a good read.

With references to Monty Python and Princess Bride, this book had me laughing and really enjoying it. D & D is a no brainer =)

I like how Shevi took another route with the whole "I've been bitten by a vampire" scenario and made it fun and entertaining. I really like the playful banter between Gil and Amber especially when Gil doesn't want to take Amber with him. I won't say anymore so I don't spoil it for you but trus

I really enjoyed the characters and the author's take on vampire lore. I'm normally more of a horror fan with vampires, but this one really held my interest. The fact that it's just the first in a series makes me quite curious as to what's to come in this particular world.

Shevi Arnold writes funny. She can't help it. She's been writing funny since she was a kid, cracking up her class and her teachers with her humorous essays.

In high school she studied sitcoms when she was supposed to be doing her homework, and in college she took a couple of courses in comedy and clowning, as part of her degrees in English Literate and Theater Studies. She just had to find out wha
