Charles E. Schaefer and Theresa Foy DiGeronimo's classic guide offers parents, teachers, counselors, and others the help they need to find the words to talk to kids and answer their questions. The book is filled with practical advice on discussing a wide range of life's experiences with children?from family changes like moving to a new home, divorce, and remarriage to broader subjects such as child abuse and AIDS.
When I got this from the library, I thought it tell me how to communicate better with my children. It's more of a reference guide with specific topics and what you need to say regarding topics such as death of a pet, Step parents, sleep-away camp, divorce. I read the subjects that I felt I wanted to talk to my kids about such as prejudice, sex and reproduction, and strangers.
I felt that this book had some really helpful instructions on how to talk to your kids about sensitive topics. I was surprised how often I responded the wrong way, and also how many things I have not discussed with my kiddos that maybe I should have already. Definitively glad I read it.
