Mary Pope Osborne is an American author of children's books and audiobook narrator. She is best known as the author of the Magic Tree House series, which as of 2017 sold more than 134 million copies worldwide. Both the series and Osborne have won awards, including for Osborne's charitable efforts at promoting children's literacy. One of four children, Osborne moved around in her childhood before attending the University of North Carolina. Following college, Osborne traveled before moving to New York City. She somewhat spontaneously began to write, and her first book was published in 1982. She went on to write a variety of other children's and young adult books before starting the Magic Tree House series in 1992. Osborne's sister Natalie Pope Boyce has written several compendium books to the Magic Tree House series, sometimes with Osborne's husband Will Osborne.
My mommy and I read Dinosaurs before Dawn which is the first book in the Magic Tree House series. It was about Annie and Jack visiting dinosaurs that lived a long time ago. I learned that some dinosaurs ate plants and some ate meat.
It was pretty good, considering that my kids were excited even though there was not much of a story. It's a simple read with a short plot that introduces the names of a few dinosaurs and a few facts about them as well. It's meant to be that way it seems, as an introduction to different parts of history for young children. The writing was simple enough that Isaiah could read most of it himself. I will probably get more of these to read with the kids when we have something we're learning that's related to a specific book from the series. I'll see if Isaiah wants to read some on his own as well.
I Like this book because It gives Good details about what is Happening . The book is Mainly about 2 Kids that find a Tree house full of book and they wish themselves to a dinosaur world and something wierd happens and they end up in the dinosaur world. They Feel Wierd because they dont know where do they need to head. They pass a hard time there because dinosaurs chase them everywhere. Until they find their way home and They try to keep this tree house as a secret.
We actually started with one of the later books. (The name escapes me at the moment.) My son really enjoyed the quick little mystery, so we picked up the first books in the series to see how Jack and Annie discovered the tree house and got started on their adventures. We'll definitely be reading more of these as bedtime stories!!
The Magic Tree House was the first "chapter book" series we started reading to our children! They loved the series and have continued to read the books on their own. History and Legends come alive in easy to digest bites for kids 6-10! They also have many of these book as Audio books so long car trips are a less stressful when you are "discovering" ancient Rome or helping the citizens of Camelot!
Magic Tree House: #1-2 (Audio Cassette) by Mary Pope Osborne looking at the first two books two young children. The dinosaurs at midnight and Knight at dawn. The book shows the nature of learning from books to solve problems. The children are transported to many significant events. They attempt to understand why things happen.
This series is a great way to ease emergent readers into listening to chapter books aloud. We started with these at the beginning of the year and I hope to come back to it when they're able to read it!
First chapter book I read to my 4yr old. I was surprised at how well it kept his attention. I thought he would only sit through a chapter or two and we ended up reading the whole book in one sitting. We cannot wait to read the next one!
My 4 yr old listened to me read each book in one setting. My Kindergarten students were super quiet and listened with high interest when I read it to them at rest time!
