Each two-page spread offers a statement of sympathy and compassion--a brief yet uplifting message of comfort that is meant for a friend or loved one in mourning. Serenely beautiful color photos on every two-page spread are complemented with words of condolence meant for those who have suffered the loss of a loved one. Many of these statements of sympathy and compassion have been taken from immortal poets and philosophers, including Longfellow, Yeats, Byron, Emerson, and Confucius. Each of the lovely photos presents an image from nature that captures a mood of peace and tranquility.

DARRYL TORCKLER specializes in underwater and nature photography and has won over 100 major international photography awards, including four first-place awards in the internationally prestigious British Gas Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition. Darryl's photos have been widely published internationally.

GILLIAN WHALLEY TORCKLER is a medical research scientist at Auckland University. She also writes books for children and adults.
Darryl and Gillian live close to the sea, surrounded by native forest, in North Auckland, New Zealand.

About the author

Gillian has been diving and exploring the world’s oceans for twenty-five years. She has always been an avid reader and had a hankering to write for some time before she time, met her husband, photographer Darryl Torckler, through their mutual scuba diving club. Soon after they met, they began writing travel articles together, and this was followed up with their first coffee table book (Underwater Wonders of New Zealand) and has led to 18 combined publications.

Gillian enjoys writing a number of different styles, including children's books, natural history, gift books, medical science, technical, travel guides, fiction and non fiction books.
Gillian has also completed a PhD in medicine and is an established expert in cardiovascular ultrasound and health research. She is currently a professor Otago Medical School in Dunedin, NZ.
Personal - Gillian was born in England, but her parents soon moved to Toronto (Canada) where she grew up. She completed her high school and university education in Auckland, New Zealand, where she currently lives. She is married to award-winning photographer Darryl Torckler and they have two sons.
