This is some amazing imagination. Great over the top story.
Cover
It's a bright and very eye catching cover with all the blues, yellow and red.
I love how this title is done. Incredibly playful with three fonts and usage with the red, white and blue.
The way the cover is , the biggest problem with the cover has to be Sugar. It really should have been Pogo the parrot in his place since Sugar really isn't in the story. Another adjustment I would have is make the both pictures of Max a bit more different like how Robert's are. I do get how the name is their prison ID card and it plays nicely with the Most Wanted section of the title.
Was the dog that big of a key in the story for it to be added to the back? I don't quite understand the importance his role was in the story.
Story
The story is really over the top and really get funny at times. I do think it might have been a touch better if it wasn't all written in the past. Like a retelling with hindsight added in for good measure but it doesn't really take away from the story all that much.
This is actually a lot going on in this story and it keeps it going pretty smoothly. Probably one of the best moments has to be when he has to go to the school counselor. I also have to admit that the way the end happens is so bizarre and out of the expected I don't think anyone could really predict it to happen like that.
The characters are predictable and really the story is a touch predictable but it isn't about what's about to happen but more about the journey to the the next scene.
And the amount of lying he does through out the book can feel a tad over done but the moral's are spelt out in the book decently.
Spoilers If it matters
I do have to admit when (Social service worker) arrives at their house I do have to admit I wished they elaborated more on that. But arguably I can see why is just passed by as quickly as it had. Granted I do have to say the concept of finding the threats because of laundry rather than because he literally disappears after the the worker appears feels a touch weak.
