Very short; about 40 pages. Short stories but interesting. I had 3 favorites. Not bad for short horror stories. Well written. To the point and had a good execution. Four stars based on how many stories I enjoyed compared to how many I didn't. Worth the short read, however.

This is a hard to book to review - some of the stories are really good: 'A Friend' in particular I really liked, as was 'Ready Or Not'.

But others I didn't like too much. It seems to me what the author has tried to do is take 'classic' (some would say cliched) horror tropes and write a succinct, orginal version of them. Where she succeeds (the stories mentioned above, plus a few others) it works really well; but where she hasn't, the whole story just comes across as cliche: another story where someone is offered a deal from the Devil; another story which turns out to be told from the point of view of someone who's dead and doesn't realise... (I don't consider these *spoilers* as the twists are obvious from the first few lines).

This isn't a bad book, it's written quite well, and I'd certainly give another of this author's books a go. But for me, it wasn't quite the full package.

Wow

The writing was unbelievable at times frightening as the author took us into worlds that are so frightening, worlds that we like to keep the door shut and hideaway from.

The first story hit me the hardest. It is through the eyes of a young girl who has lived through a rape of someone she trusted the most, her father and now lives locked in the house, alone and afraid wit the secret.

I cannot boast enough about the writing of this author. It was outstanding the words were fluid, drenched in emotion.

The trauma

Who hurt you???
Good lord. Most of these stories, while incredibly well written, seem like therapy to me. Some kinda therapeutic exercise to deal with PTSD, with past trauma. From child abuse to incest to rape...drugs, murder, haunting and mental illness. The details are disturbing and painful. So on the money...God. who hurt you???

Well... isn’t this a dark little thing.

Some of the stories really chilled me to my core, others I felt didn’t have a twist.

Generally a great, quick read for all the horror fans out there!

There are a couple good ones in here, but most of these stories leaned way too heavily on shock value over substance, and the writing didn’t do much to draw me in.

I honestly don’t know how to rate this book. The creepy/disturbing factor is definitely 5-star worthy, but the book was also extremely weird. One of the stories was so disturbing that I wasn’t sure I wanted to continue to the next one. Overall, it was a quick, easy read.

Very well written with subject matter of abuse, revenge, and very dark times in humans lives. Some writers stray from such dark looks at life but Claire Farrell takes a spotlight and shines it into the darkest corners. Looking forward to reading more from her.

This book is filled with stories more about the horrors of humanity than anything supernatural, yes there are supernatural elements in a few of the stories, but not all of them. I would recommend this collection to anyone who enjoys a good chiller.

This is an ugly book mostly filled with stories about the scary things humans to do each other and themselves.

And all I wanted was some scary fun. /Sigh.

The stories are short, but they're so well-written, they pull the reader directly into the conflict. Now, this is a wonderful skill and I admire the author for it, but some of the subject matter is deathly dark which takes the writing from powerful to disturbing.

Each character is different from the last and there are tremendous twists to the narratives that come from left field and left this reader reeling.

Pay heed to the trigger warnings in the blurb. Some of the characters reach down into something primal and terrifying, and readers should proceed with caution.

Not for me

If there was a rating for no stars I would give it the first story is about a 15 year old raping a young girl and leaving her for dead,I couldn't even finish it properly just skimmed the rest,I know this kind of thing goes on in the world but I don't want to read about how the rapist enjoyed it when all I want is to relax and enjoy a good read and take my mind off the day I've had .Horrible!

This was a collection of 13 short stories (some really short). The topics ranged from demons to ghosts to psychotic murderers. Many of these seemed like ideas the author had, but decided to just go with the premise instead of developing a story around the idea. The stories, as a whole, were quick fun reads, rather like popping an appetizer instead of having a full entree. All in all, an enjoyable interlude between novels.

Quick read

I really enjoyed the collection of shorts put together here. Some are rather dark but not overly terrifying. I don't recall any warning on this one but maybe this will help. If you have went through a trauma that is sickening.....read with caution. This one may stir up a few unwanted emotions. Thanks for bringing me to that point without throwing me deep in the pits of Hades.

Worth every penny!
I got this book for free on my Kindle, and it certainly was worth it.
It's "rated" R (not recommended for children), and I wholly agree. No child should be exposed to such trash. It could permanently warp their idea of good fiction.
On the other hand, it shows aspiring writers that no matter how bad their stories may be, there's always the hope of being published!
Gratuitously violent, predictable, and ultimately silly.

Sorry, But Not For Me

Child abuse, murder, revenge, and other dark aspects of life are not my cup of tea. I read predominantly horror, but horror has to show there is a little more to life than just darkness or it simply reduces itself to what is known as extreme horror or splatterpunk.

A nice and good read... A little different than my usual taste but it is good.

A bit disturbing in some stories

There were some very well written stories included in this book. Some of the stories in this book are a bit obsene, some not even scary (just graphic violence).

Horrible Horror

I enjoyed most of these stories as I consider myself a fan of the genre. However, some I found to be truly horrible and they will stay with me for quite a while, but not in a good way. Read at your own peril.

I assumed it was going to be dark, but WOW. I don't know anything about the author, but only gave it one star due to the writing. It struck me as rather juvenile - not the subject matter, the writing itself.

Well, uh... That was just all cozy and comforting. Not! More like completely creepy. Some really weird, off-the-wall stories here. Weird.
