I enjoyed this in the "audiobook" editions:

* The Presidential Years 1960-1963 (A Documentary) [20th Century Fox Records – TFM 3127]
* The Presidential Years 1960-1963 - Original Speeches [Design Records – DLP-169]

Hearing those few regime years compressed into less than an hour feels like when I see those "How Presidents Age in Office" image comparisons. In this aural equivalent, JFK's voice changes both becoming a more confident, assured speaker but also one more concerned, frustrated, even a bit haggard. Besides tone, content changes. Kennedy starts from an idealistic New Frontier of America leading the world and indeed saving part of it by sheltering rising democracies while ridding the globe of nuclear weapons. Such a ban and hopes feel forgotten as the problems of The Cold War, a rise in the cost of steel, Vietnam, and of course by the tragic end, banning atomic weaponry was no longer a topic, but hey, banning tests?

A line from the Radio and television address to the American people on the Soviet arms build-up in Cuba, 22 October 1962 seems relevant today:

The 1930's taught us a clear lesson: aggressive conduct, if allowed to go unchecked and unchallenged ultimately leads to war. This nation is opposed to war. We are also true to our word.
