Rate this book
From the ruins of an ancient abbey, archaeologists unearth the skull of a young monk. Using the latest technology, Liam’s Dad attempts to recreate the young man’s likeness. But as his Dad works, Liam looks into the cavities where eyes had once been and hears a voice calling across the centuries — “Foul deeds. Murder. Black Arts.” Who was this young monk and how did he die?

Liam finds himself drawn into a centuries-old mystery that will force him and his father to confront their own recent loss.

I picked up this book from a charity stand, I probably wouldn’t have bought it full price. I wasn’t that keen on the start, I felt a little like I was dropped into a plot with no direction. But then once it got going after 40 pages or so I got quite into it.

Alan Durant can write an engaging story. It was an easy read and, thankfully, it concluded. I don't know how memorable this will be, as it just reminds me of other brilliant stories from monasteries.
