Picked up from a second-hand shop, I only had a quick glance at it before purchasing so I didn't know this was actually a collection of academic essays! In ways this disappointed me a little but also satisfied the nerd itch in my brain. Some essays were way more interesting than others, such as the ones about Scottish court writing, the political influence of mistresses, and royal horses.
You can't really rate a collection of different works like a normal book, but I'd say there was a wide range of topics that kept things interesting and engaging, all well researched, which makes it pretty good in my eyes.
